As one of the vital tectonic units of the Wulian Metamorphic Core Complex(MCC), the Wulian detachment fault zone(WDFZ), which developed in the Jiaodong peninsula, separates the lower plate of the ultrahigh pressure(UHP) metamorphic rocks in the Sulu orogenic belt from the upper plate of the early Cretaceous Zhucheng basin and the basin basement. The fault zone generally strikes NNE with a dip in the west along the southern portion of the MCC and strikes NE with a dip in the WNWalong the northern portion. The fault zone displays a wavy-tile-shaped extension on the plane, principally composed of the fault breccias and mylonite and transits downward to the mylonitic gneiss. As a whole, the detachment fault zone shows a top-towest or a WNW extension. By calculating the harmonic mean, we obtain a Flynn index K of 0.98–2.0, and the mean value is approximately 1.35 in the fault zone. According to the polar Mohr construction, the extensional crenulation cleavage, the RS/θ,and the quartz C-axial fabric methods, we acquire mean kinematic vorticity values of 0.64–0.97, 0.76–0.93, 0.6–0.92, and 0.63–0.98 with mean values of 0.83, 0.80, 0.78 and 0.86, respectively, for mylonite and promylonite. The strain measurement results and the kinematic vorticity values indicate that the WDFZ is a normal ductile shear zone developed in the extensional *** kinematic track shows that the kinematic vorticity value decreases gradually from the NW to the SE as a whole. A simple shear dominates in the middle and upper parts of the shear zone, which is reflected by a higher vorticity value(>0.75, up to 0.98),a low thinning rate and a lower K value. In contrast, toward the footwall, the pure shear is increased significantly, showing a lower vorticity value(<0.70, low to 0.64), a relatively high thinning rate and a higher K value. Combined with the geotectonic background, the development and evolution of the WDFZ should respond to lithospheric thinning and the destruction of the North China

Influence of phosphate on deposition and detachment of TiO2 nanoparticles in soil

The widespread use of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) makes inevitable their release into the soil. Phosphate is also widespread within soil, and is likely copresent with TiO2 NPs. However, the influence of phosphate on deposition/release— and thereby on transport— of TiO2 NPs in soil is yet to be elucidated. In this study we conducted saturated column experiments to systematically examine the transport of TiO2 NPs in soil amended with phosphate at different ionic strengths (ISs) (1, 10, 100 mmol/L NaCl) and pHs (4 and 9). Results show that the deposition of TiO2 NPs decreased with decreasing IS, increasing pH, and when soil absorbed phosphate. These observations are qualitatively in agreement with Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) interaction energy calculations, because the repulsive energy barrier is larger and secondary minimum depth is smaller at a lower IS, higher pH, and in the presence of phosphate. Accordingly, both primary- and secondary-minimum deposition were inhibited. Interestingly, although the deposition was less at higher pH and in the presence of phosphate, the subsequent spontaneous detachment and detachment by reduction of solution IS in these cases were greater. In addition, the presence of phosphate in the solution can cause a small quantity of attached TiO2 NPs to detach, even without perturbations of physical and chemical conditions. Our study was the first to investigate the influence of phosphate on detachment of TiO2 NPs and the results have important implication for accurate prediction of fate and transport of TiO2 NPs in subsurface environments.

Observation of deuterium molecule emission spectra under an active feedback control of H-mod plasma divertor detachment experiment on the EAST tokamak

Based on neon gas puffing, an active feedback control of H-mod plasma divertor detachment experiment was successfully operated on the EAST tokamak. During the feedback control discharge, the plasma was detached by puffing neon gas and the strike point splitting phenomenon on divertor target was also clearly observed by divertor probes *** boundary region, many neutral particle processes(atom and molecule) were happened and accompanied by their emission spectra under the detachment discharge. By studying these emission spectra, it is helpful for us to understand the role of atoms and molecules in boundary recycling, which is important for studying the physical mechanism of divertor detachment. For the Fulcher-α system(d(3 p)3Πu±→ a(2 s)3Σg+), D2 emission spectra in the range from 601 nm to 606 nm were observed, identified and fitted in the detachment experiment for the first time on the EAST, and the spectra in the Q(0–0) band(d3Πu-→ a(2 s)3Σg+) in the Q branch of the Fulcher-α system were used for detailed analysis to acquire the boundary region temperature Te(below 5eV), which could not be provided very well by other diagnostics on the EAST. An electronic version deuterium molecular spectral line database was established to identify the spectral lines and a multi-peak fitting program was developed to fit and analyze the observed spectra.

The crystal detachment behaviors from a chilling solid surface with vibration were investigated using a transparent NH4Cl-70%H2O *** nucleation experiments of NH4Cl-70%H2O alloy were performed on a chilling surface generator with various vibration frequency from 20 to 1 000 Hz and vibration acceleration from 10 to 100 m/*** results indicate that the crystal detach rate increases and the grains are refined with increasing vibration acceleration under a certain vibration *** is interesting to note that,when the frequency is 50 Hz,acceleration is 100 m/s2,the crystal detach rate increases sharply and the grain refinement effect is strengthened.A special grain refinement phenomenon can be observed,when the vibration acceleration and frequency are up to a critical value.A power-based definition was introduced in order to describe the relationship between the vibration parameters and imposed power on the *** is found that a power criterion exists for the grain refinement in the current system.

Investigation of Divertor detachment in EAST by‘Two-Point’Model

Divertor plasma detachment offers one of the most promising operating modes for fusion devices because of low target power loading. In this article a ＇two-point＇ model is used to investigate the formation of detachment and explore the route to detachment in EAST, in order to find an ideal operation window. The simulation results show that impurity radiation and ionneutral friction are the main causes of divertor plasma detachment at the target plates. Raising the safety factor and reducing the upstream power density provide effective means to achieve the detachment due to the increased radiation power fraction. Puffing Ar and Ne impurities and raising the safety factor can bring the upstream high plasma temperature region （above 100 eV） and the low target plasma temperature region （below 10 eV） close to each other in terms of the separatrix density. But it is difficult to find a common operating region which satisfies both conditions. High recycling and detached regimes provides an ideal operation window because of the steady upstream condition and low target power load.

The Louzidian low-angle ductile shear detachment zone at the south of Chifeng is a SE-dipping, low-angle normal fault system. It is composed mainly of ductile shear zone, ductile-brittle shear zone and brittle fault zone. The ductile shear zone consists of, from bottom to top, mylonitic rocks, protomylonites and mylonites. Finite strain measurement of feldspar strain markers from those rocks using the Rf /φ method shows that strain intensities (Es) of the mylonite at core of the ductile shear zone (Es=0.65-0.96) are higher than those of the mylonitic rocks close to the granite intrusions (Es=0.59-0.62) and of the protomylonites at top of the ductile shear zone (Es= 0.47-0.70), and the strain types of the protomylonites and mylonties are elongate strain and plane-flattening strain, respectively. The kinematic vorticity values (Wk) estimated by the Polar Mohr diagram and the Rigid Grain Net range from 0.81 to 0.90 with an average of 0.85 for the protomylonites, and from 0.53 to 0.80 with 0.66 on average for the mylonites; Wk values of the extensional crenulation cleavage, i.e., C′, estimated by C′ method range from 0.63 to 0.37 with an average of 0.50. The angles between the maximum principal stress and shearing direction determined using the Maximum effective moment criterion evolved from 61° to 69° and to 75°, and finally normal to shearing direction. The results of strain and kinematic vorticity measurements suggest that high strain corresponds to low kinematic vorticity. Kinematic vorticity measurements show that the Louzidian low-angle ductile shear detachment zone is a result of a combination of simple-dominated general shearing at the early stage and pure-dominated general shearing at the late stage. All these, together with isotope geochronology and regional tectonic background, suggest that the Louzidian ductile shear detachment zone resulted from a combination of crust extension and magma intrusion. AIM: To assess the efficacy and safety of a heavy silicone oil(Densiron 68) in the management of inferior retinal detachment ***: A retrospective non-comparative consecutive case series study. Forty-nine cases of complex inferior retinal detachment were treated using Densiron 68 heavy silicone oil(HSO) as the endotamponade. Our main purpose was anatomic reattachment following Densiron 68 removal. Functional outcomes, rate of recurrences, the presence of inflammatory complications and intraocular pressure alterations were evaluated. RESULTS: Forty-nine patients affected by complex retinal re-detachment were recruited. The mean follow-up was 7.6(±1.5) mo. The mean best corrected visual acuity after Densiron 68 removal was 0.95 log MAR, standard error(SE: 0.068). Retinal reattachment was 61.2% after first surgery and 81.6% after second surgery. Nineteen cases(38.8%) had recurrences when intraocular heavy silicon oil was in situ, 26.3%(5 cases) of which involved the inferior retina. CONCLUSION: Densiron 68 efficiently fills the inferior retinal periphery and might lower the risk of inferior proliferative vitreoretinopathy development, in particular after a standard silicon oil tamponade that reduces the proliferative process in the upper quadrants of the retina.

Dopamine and its receptors have been widely studied in the neurological conditions and in the retina. In this study, we evaluated the possible role of dopamine in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD) by comparing the amount of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid(DOPAC), a surrogate index of retinal dopamin levels, in the vitreous sample of patients affected by RRD with those affected by macular pucker and vitre ous hemorrhage. Our results showed that significantly higher levels of DOPAC were found in the vitreou sample of patients affected by RRD compared with those affected by vitreous hemorrhage and macula pucker(P = 0.002). Specifically, no trace of the substance was found in vitreous hemorrhage and macula pucker samples. A slightly significant positive correlation was found among DOPAC and post-operativ best corrected visual acuity(r = 0.470, P = 0.049). No correlation was found between DOPAC and the day elapsed between diagnosis and surgery(P = 0.317). For the first time our findings suggest that DOPAC i released in RRD, but not in other retinal diseases such as vitreous hemorrhage and macular pucker. More over, we showed a correlation between visual acuity outcome and the amount of DOPAC in the vitreous This might have a potential, although still unknown, implication in the pathogenesis of the disease and/o in the associated photoreceptors loss. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Rome Tor Ver gata University Hospital(R.S.92.10) on September 24, 2010.

AIM: To evaluate a modified technique for scleral buckling(SB) in pseudophakic retinal detachment(RD).METHODS: A retrospective non-comparative study included 21 consecutive eyes with uncomplicated pseudophakic RD that was repaired by chandelier assisted SB using wide angle viewing(WAV) contact lens. Segmental tire alone was used in 5 eyes(23.81%), and combined with encircling band in 7 eyes(33.33%). Radial sponge alone was used in 3 eyes(14.29%) and combined with encircling band in 6 eyes(28.57%).RESULTS: Primary success rate was(90.48%). External drainage of subretinal fluid was performed in 8 eyes(38.1%). Intraoperative complications included vitreous prolapse at chandelier sclerotomy site in 4 eyes(19.05%) and localized subretinal hemorrhage at drainage site in one eye(4.76%). No case of intraocular lens(IOL) displacement, retinal incarceration or iatrogenic retinal tear was detected. Postoperative complications included choroidal detachment in one eye(4.76%), elevated intraocular pressure in 2 eyes(9.52%), epiretinal membrane formation in one eye(4.76%) and proliferative vitreoretinopathy in 3 eyes(14.29%). Mean postoperative corrected distance visual acuity was 0.7±0.3 logMAR units. CONCLUSION: Chandelier-assisted SB using WAV contact lens is a reliable technique for repairing selected cases of simple pseudophakic RD.
