Taking the opportunity of the third monitoring of rocky desertification in the karst area of China,Zigui County of Hubei Province applied Unmanned Aerial Vehicle( UAV) for the first time for monitoring. Through repeated trials and studies,it established technical requirements including the UAV monitoring technology for the rocky desertification,the feature point photographing,UAV video judgment of rocky desertification degree,UAV video correction misclassification subcompartment,and UAV video observation of rocky desertification control. It completed the third rocky desertification monitoring task of karst area in Zigui County.

Land desertification is a complex concept which refers to land degradation in the arid region, semi-arid region and sub-humid arid region caused by various factors including climate variability and human activities. It is not only an environmental problem, but also a social and economic one[1]. Land desertification will reduce the biological and economic production potential of the land and even exacerbate the trend of land desertification, leaving serious impact on the economic, social development and national lives of Jilin. In addition, it will result in ecological environment deterioration, microclimate variability, an increase in natural disaster and high frequency of sand blowing. Taking the special geographic area in western Jilin (especially the Tongyu County) as an example, this paper discusses the natural and social factors for the forming of desertification in the microcosmic level, analyzes the current situations and provides reasonable recommendations.

A massive sandstorm enveloped most part of northern China during the spring season 2002. Monitoring the evolution of sandstorm and desertification has become one of the most serious problems for China’s environment. Since 1989, one of the most advanced and operational passive microwave sensors is the DMSP SSM/I (special sensor microwave imager) operated at seven channels (19, 37, 85 GHz with the vertical and horizontal polarization and 22 GHz with vertical polarization only). In this paper, the sandstorm and desertification indexes, SDI and DI, are derived from the radiative transfer equation, and are employed with multi-channel measurements of the DMSP SSM/I for monitoring the sandstorm and desertification in northern China. Some SSM/1 data in 1997 and 2001 are employed. The algorithm of Getis statistics is developed to categorize the spatial correlation and its evolution these days. It is demonstrated that the SSM/ I indexes, SDI and DI, and its Getis statistics are well applicable for monitoring the

[Objective] The aim was to analyze the current status and control measures of ecological restoration in Karst rocky desertification area of Guizhou.[Method] The current status and existing problems of ecological restoration in Karst rocky desertification area of Guizhou were studied firstly,and main control measures were put forward according to existing problems.[Result] At present,Karst rocky desertification area in Guizhou has suitable ecological environment,obvious control results and rich control experience,and there exist many problems like ambiguous concept of ecological restoration,biased control emphasis,single control measure and serious water shortage due to lagging engineering *** measures mainly include combining natural restoration with artificial tending to speed up ecological restoration,reinforcing the restoration and rebuilding of development and construction project to prevent the deterioration of regional ecological environment,speeding up the construction of environmental friendly energy infrastructures to decrease the damage of vegetation by human activities,increasing industrial structure adjustment and greatly developing green industry and improving the investment in technological innovation to promote the rapid development of ecological restoration.[Conclusion] The study could provide scientific references for the ecological restoration in other Karst rocky desertification area in Southwest China.

The paper had introduced geographical location,natural condition and social development status of Nanchuan District of Chongqing City,analyzed the development principle,necessity and feasibility of characteristic agriculture at rocky desertification *** view of features of desertification area,it had discussed construction mode of ecological restoration in the perspectives of engineering management measures,development and utilization of water resources,and ecological restoration *** line with agricultural characteristic of Nanchuan District of Chongqing City,the development mode of characteristic agriculture had been discussed from the aspects of characteristic Chinese medicinal crops,fruits,breeding,poultries,and *** emphasized adopting corresponding planning measures,making the best use of advantages and avoiding shortcomings,with scientific planning,reasonable layout and highlighted emphasis,so as to strive to form circular economic development tendency of good environment and harmonious ecology.

Karst rocky desertification is a phenomenon of land degradation as a result of affection by the interaction of natural and human *** the past,in the rocky desertification areas,supervised classification and unsupervised classification are often used to classify the remote sensing *** they only use pixel brightness characteristics to classify *** the classification accuracy is low and can not meet the needs of practical *** tree classification is a new technology for remote sensing image *** this study,we select the rocky desertification areas Kaizuo Township as a case study,use the ASTER image data,DEM and lithology data,by extracting the normalized difference vegetation index,ratio vegetation index,terrain slope and other data to establish classification rules to build decision *** the ENVI software support,we access the classification *** calculating the classification accuracy and kappa coefficient,we find that better classification results can be obtained,desertification information can be extracted automatically and if more remote sensing image bands used,higher resolution DEM employed and less errors data reduced during processing,classification accuracy can be improve further.

The initial desertification in the Asian interior is thought to be one of the most prominent climate changes in the Northern Hemisphere during the Cenozoic *** the dating of this transition is uncertain,partly because desert sediments are usually scattered,discontinuous and difficult to *** we report nearly continuous aeolian deposits covering the interval from 22 to 6.2 million years ago,on the basis of palaeomagnetic measurements and fossil evidence.A total of 231 visually definable aeolian layers occur as brownish loesses interbedded with reddish *** new evidence indicates that large source areas of aeolian dust and energetic winter monsoon winds to transport the material must have existed in the interior of Asia by the early Miocene epoch,at least 14 million years earlier than previously *** tectonic changes and ongoing global cooling are probable causes of these changes in aridity and circulation in Asia.
