del RBC transfusion should be avoided in particular blood recipient in East Asia due to allosensitization and ineffectiveness

Previously, both primary and secondary anti-D alloimmunizations induced by "Asian type" del (RHD1227A allele) were observed in two incidents. We investigated how often these alloimmunization events occur. The transfusions of any D-negative patients were investigated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University Medical College, China, during the entire 2009. The antigens of D, C, c, E, and e were routinely serotyped. The "Asian type" del variant was genotyped and the RHD heterozygote was determined through two published methods. The changes in anti-D levels were monitored by the indirect antiglobulin test (IAT) and flow cytometry. Thirty D-negative transfused patients were included in the study. We focused on 11 recipients who were transfused with packed red blood cells (RBCs) from del donors at least one time. Of those 11 recipients, seven were anti-D negative before transfusion and four were anti-D positive (one patient with an autoantibody). One of the seven pre-transfusion anti-D negative patients produced a primary-response anti-D after being transfused with 400 ml of del blood twice. All four pre-transfusion antibody positive patients were not observed hemoglobin (Hb) levels increased, as expected after transfusions. Two patients had an increase in anti-D from 1:8 to 1:64 by IAT, which was also shown by flow cytometry. None of the patients experienced an acute hemolytic episode. Our data indicated that the primary anti-D induced by del transfusion or the secondary anti-D elevated by del in a truly D-negative patient might not be unusual. We suggest that a truly D-negative childbearing-aged woman should avoid del transfusion to protect her from primary anti-D allosensitization. In addition, anti-D positive recipients should also avoid del red cell transfusion due to the delayed hemolytic transfusion reaction (DHTR).

A polymorphism within ErbB4 is associated with risk for hepatocellular carcinoma in Chinese population

AIM:To investigate the association between hepatocel-lular carcinoma (HCC) susceptibility and a 12-bp inser-tion/deletion polymorphism (rs6147150) in the 3'UTR of ErbB4.METHODS:Using a case-control design,the rs6147150 genotypes in 270 patients with HCC and 270 healthy controls were determined by direct polymerase chain reaction and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.Logistic regression was used to analyze the association between the polymorphism and cancer risk.RESULTS:Computational modeling suggested that rs6147150 was located in the seed region of hsa-let-7c,a potential target sequence in ErbB4 3'UTR.Logistic re-gression analysis showed that,compared with individu-als homozygous for wild-type,heterozygotes [adjusted odds ratio (OR)=1.48,95% confidence interval (CI)= 1.03-2.17,P=0.034] and individuals homozygous for 12-bp del/del (OR=2.50,95% CI=1.37-4.56,P=0.001) were at significantly higher risk of HCC.Car-riers of the "del" allele of rs6147150 had a 1.59-fold increased risk for HCC (95% CI=1.22-2.07,P=0.003).CONCLUSION:rs6147150 may be associated with HCC risk,in part through let-7c-mediated regulation,and may be involved in the pathogenesis of HCC in Chi-nese populations.

DOUBLE-EDGED LIMIT OF TOTAL FERTILITY RATES

In this paper we present the accurate estimation of total fertility rates, prove the theorem of upper and lower bounds of double-edged limit and provide the formulas of upper and lower bounds of total fertility rates. Based on these estimations and statistical data, we calculate the upper and lower bounds of the double-edged limit for 46 countries including China. Furthermore, we describe the positive growth rate, negative growth rate and zero growth rate of population development. These results are of great importance for us to control population not only in theory but also in practice.

Initial floristic composition of rehabilitated gullies through bioengineering in the Mixteca Region, Sierra Madre del Sur, Mexico

Re-vegetation plays a fundamental role for erosion control and plant recovery in lands affected by gully erosion. Bioengineered practices facilitate the gullies rehabilitation. Objectives of the research were: 1) Identify taxonomically the pioneer vegetation on each gully section; 2) Characterize vegetation distribution preferences and 3) Assess structural/functional traits to recognize erosion control key species. Bioengineering was applied in a watershed belonging to Sierra Madre del Sur, at Oaxaca, Mexico, on eight gullies, with local support and minimal investment. "La Mixteca" is a poor ecological and socio-economic region, comparable to other regions of the world. The Initial Floristic Composition(IFC) inventory is the baseline of the successional process. The transect method was used to determine the colonization of species. Cover abundance of registered species was estimated using the semi-quantitative scale of Braun-Blanquet. This procedure was repeated in five different positions(floor, hillslopes and tops), in the cross section of the gully. Throughcorrespondence analysis and clustering, the distribution of species was analyzed. Adequate responses were obtained in soil retention(quantity) and plant cover(existence and diversity); as measurable indicators of the bioengeneering works efficiency. Occupation of soil by native species from the Tropical Deciduous Forest was favored using live barriers. We detected species guilds with spatial distribution preferences in the gullies cross section. Plant cover characterization includes: native colonizer species, herbaceous, shrubby and trees of the forest community bordering the gully area, with cover abundance and structural/functional traits, useful to protect degraded areas. This spatial occupation process of plants responds to a secondary succession in gullies, where the proposed IFC model is correctly represented through bioengineering. Lack of Association between Genetic Polymorphisms Affecting Autonomic Activity and Coronary Artery Spasm

Coronary artery spasm （CAS） is one of the leading pathological causes of a wide spectrum of ischemic heart diseases, ranging from variant angina pectoris to acute myocardial infarction and even sudden cardiac death[1]. Furthermore, Pierron et al. concluded that CAS of angiographically normal or sub-normal arteries is responsible for death or myocardial infarction in 11.6% of all cases. Oddly, the incidence of CAS is remarkably higher in Asians than in Caucasians[3], suggesting genetic involvement In its pathogenesis.

目的综述DNA编码化合物库(DNA encoded compound library, del)技术用于药物筛选的策略进展。方法检索国内外相关文献,根据筛选体系的不同对del筛选策略进行分类阐述。结果 del技术主要包括文库的构建、化合物的筛选和命中解码与重构化合物三个部分。其中,化合物的筛选技术作为del技术的中心环节已成为近年来的热门话题。为了扩增del技术应用的靶标范围,del筛选体系从最初的固相逐步发展成为液相,靶标体系从纯化蛋白逐步扩展到细胞裂解液和活细胞。近年来,del技术相继与多种现代技术联用,从基于亲和力的结合筛选转变到生化活性筛选,提高了筛选结果的准确性。结论 del筛选具有广阔的技术前景,研究者们正在为del筛选进行进一步的研究,预计未来能够继续取得更多实质性突破,用于更多药物的发现。

The subduction of the Copiapó aseismic ridge,is the causing of the formation of metallic minerals deposits in north of Chile and Argentina?

The results obtained in this work evince that the metallic mineral deposits located in the northern region of the Chilean-Pampean flat slab(in northern Chile and north-western Argentina),at approximately 27°30’S,would be related to the subduction of the Copiapo aseismic ridge.The analysis of the gravity anomalies and vertical gravity gradient allows inferring a deflection and truncation of the main trend of the Andean structures at the extrapolated zone of the Copiapo ridge beneath South America.Thus,the general NNE-trend of the Andean structures are rotated locally to an ENE-strike within the area of the Ojos del Salado-San Buena Ventura lineament.We explain that this anomalous behavior of the gravity derived anomalies is related to the deformational effects imprinted by the ridge subduction.Regions with a low subduction angle(<30° to horizontal)are related to large mineralization due to fluids released by dehydration of the subducting crust.In addition,a higher degree of mantle melting could be produced by a thicker oceanic crust.Therefore,we interpret that the processes associated to the subduction of the Copiapo aseismic ridge(emplaced on a thickened oceanic crust due to a local compensation of the seamounts)are the cause of formation and emplacement of big metallic mineral deposits in this region of Chile and Argentina.
