Impacts of the covid-19 pandemic on rural poverty and policy responses in China

Given the sudden outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic,a timely study on the impacts of and policy response to the pandemic on rural poverty in China is critically important because China has aimed to completely eradicate extreme poverty by the end of *** paper uses data from the latest round of a nationally representative household panel survey to examine the impacts of the pandemic on rural poverty in *** data show that 11.9%of sample households were ever officially registered as poor households between 2013 and 2019,and this poverty incidence fell to 2.7%by the end of *** the middle February of 2020,23%of the households who have graduated from poverty since 2013 perceived that they would fall back into poverty due to the *** those never poor households,7.1%perceived that they would possibly fall into poverty due to the *** from both descriptive and multivariate analyses consistently show the interruptions that the pandemic caused in off-farm employment is an important channel that led households to perceive of falling back into or falling into *** also find households in the bottom four quintiles when ranked in terms of household income per capita are much more likely to perceive themselves of falling back into or falling into poverty during this pandemic than those in the richest ***,our results show that the education and age of household heads,as well as being from Hubei Province matter in explaining household perception about falling back into or falling into poverty in some cases but not *** paper concludes with a set of policy responses that China has taken to mitigate the impact of covid-19 pandemic on poverty alleviation.

Invisible face of covid-19 pandemic on the freshwater environment:An impact assessment on the sediment quality of a cross boundary river basin in Turkey

In the current research,the impact of the covid-19 lockdown period on sediment quality of the MericErgene River Basin was evaluated by determining the potentially toxic elements(PTEs) in sediment samples collected from 25 sampling points in the *** some important ecological indicators including potential ecological risk index(PERI),contamination factor(CF),pollution load index(PLI),biological risk index(BRI),and geo-accumulation index(I) and some important statistical indicators including the Pearson correlation index(PCI),factor analysis(FA),and cluster analysis(CA) were applied to collected *** of all the investigated PTEs in sediment of the basin show significant differences between the pre-lockdown and lockdown *** PTE contents have considerably decreased by12.8%-45.4% during the lockdown ***,the results of applied sediment quality risk assessment indices showed significant improvement and the values have decreased by 22.4%-35.8%.In the lockdown period,reduction of industrial activities or limited production at many industrial facilities located in the basin reduced the amount of effluent,leading to significant improvement in sediment quality.

WLAN-log-based superspreader detection in the covid-19 pandemic

Identifying“superspreaders”of disease is a pressing concern for society during pandemics such as *** represent a group of people who have much more social contacts than *** widespread deployment of WLAN infrastructure enables non-invasive contact tracing via people’s ubiquitous mobile *** technology offers promise for detecting *** this paper,we propose a general framework for WLAN-log-based superspreader *** our framework,we first use WLAN logs to construct contact graphs by jointly considering human symmetric and asymmetric ***,we adopt three vertex centrality mea-surements over the contact graphs to generate three groups of superspreader ***,we leverage SEIR simulation to determine groups of superspreaders among these candidates,who are the most critical individuals for the spread of disease based on the simulation *** have implemented our framework and evaluate it over a WLAN dataset with 41 million log entries from a large-scale *** evaluation shows superspread-ers exist on university *** change over the first few weeks of a semester,but stabilize throughout the rest of the *** data also demonstrate that both symmetric and asymmetric contact tracing can dis-cover superspreaders,but the latter performs better with daily contact ***,the evaluation shows no consistent differences among three vertex centrality measures for long-term(i.e.,weekly)contact graphs,which necessitates the inclusion of SEIR simulation in our *** believe our proposed framework and these results can provide timely guidance for public health administrators regarding effective testing,intervention,and vaccination policies.

The coronavirus disease 2019(covid-19)has currently caused the mortality of millions of people around the *** from the direct mortality from the covid-19,the indirect effects of the pandemic have also led to an increase in the mortality rate of other non-covid *** indicates that novel covid-19 pandemic has caused an inflation in acute cardiovascular mortality,which did not relate to covid-19 *** has in fact increased the risk of death in cardiovascular disease(CVD)*** this purpose,it is dramatically inevitable to monitor CVD patients’vital signs and to detect abnormal events before the occurrence of any critical conditions resulted in *** of things(IoT)and health monitoring sensors have improved the medical care systems by enabling latency-sensitive surveillance and computing of large amounts of patients’*** major challenge being faced currently in this problem is its limited scalability and late detection of cardiovascular events in IoT-based computing *** this end,this paper proposes a novel framework to early detection of cardiovascular events based on a deep learning architecture in IoT *** results showed that the proposed method was able to detect cardiovascular events with better performance(95.30%average sensitivity and 95.94%mean prediction values).

BACKGROUND There have been increased reports of dry eyes in the coronavirus disease 2019(covid-19) pandemic *** To analyze the differences in tear film properties from pre-and post-pandemic of the covid-19 *** It was a retrospective comparative *** were divided into three groups according to the data of multimodal ocular surface evaluation:(1) Group 1 if it was before Portugal lockdown decision(from August 2019 to March 2020);(2) Group 2 if it was after Portugal lockdown decision but without mask mandate(from April 2020 to October 2020);and(3) Group 3 if it was after Portugal lockdown but with mask mandate in health public highway(from November 2020 to April 2021).The following variables were analyzed:Lipid layer thickness,blink rate,Schirmer test,tear meniscus height,tear osmolarity,non-invasive break-up time,and loss area of the meibomian *** The study included 548 eyes of 274 patients,aged 18 years to 89 years,with a mean age of 66.15 ± 13.40 years at the time of multimodal ocular surface *** to group 1:(1) Mean lipid layer thickness was better in group 2(P = 0.001) and group 3(P pandemic of the covid-19 era.

Impact of covid-19 pandemic on clinicopathological features of transplant recipients with hepatocellular carcinoma:A case-control study

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(covid-19)pandemic had a significant impact on the management of all *** diseases such as cancer have a higher risk of covid-19-related *** this fact,any delay or alteration in treatment of cancer may have fatal *** carcinoma(HCC)is an aggressive liver cancer that requires multimodality treatment to improve *** To evaluate the impact of covid-19 on the management of patients with HCC by determining changes in demographic,clinical and histopathological *** Demographic,clinical and pathological variables of patients with HCC who had undergone liver transplantation between March 2020 and June 2021(pandemic group,n=48)were retrospectively compared with that of the patients with HCC transplanted between November 2018 and March 2020(Pre-pandemic group,n=61).RESULTS The median age of the patients in the study was 56(interquartile range=15).Ninety-seven patients(89%)were male and 12 were female(11%).The most common etiology of liver disease was hepatitis B virus(n=52,47.7%).According to our results,there was a 21.3% drop in the number of patients transplanted for *** was no difference in the demographic,clinical and pathological characteristics of the patients except blood alkaline phosphatase levels(P=0.029),lymphovascular invasion(P=0.019)and type of the liver graft that was transplanted(P=0.017).CONCLUSION It is important to develop a surveillance strategy for liver transplant *** liver transplantation for HCC is justified and safe provided that strict surveillance protocols are applied.
