A high-repetition-rate eye-safe optical parametric oscillator （OPO）, using a non-critically phase-matched KTP crystal intracavity pumped by a passively Q-switched Nd：GdVO4/Cr^4＋：YAG laser, is experimentally demonstrated. The conversion efficiency for the average power is 7% from pump diode input to OPO signal output and the slope efficiency is up to 10.3%. With an incident pump power of 7,3 W, the compact intracavity OPO （IOPO） cavity, operating at 15 kHz, produces an average power of 0.57 W at 1570 nm with a pulse width as short as 6 ns. The peak power at 1570 nm is higher than 6.3 kW.

The quantum state transfer from subharmonic frequency to harmonic frequency based on asymmetrically pumped second harmonic generation in a cavity is investigated theoretically. The performance of noise-free frequency up- conversion is evaluated by the signal transfer coefficient and the conversion efficiency, in which both the quadrature fluctuation and the average photon number are taken into consideration. It is shown that the quantum property can be preserved during frequency up-conversion via operating the cavity far below the threshold. The dependences of the transfer coefficient and the conversion efficiency on pump parameter, analysing frequency, and cavity extra loss are also discussed.

In a two-stage optical parametric amplifier based on KTiOAO4 crystals, we apply beam-overlapping technique to nanosecond signal pulse amplification, which results in high conversion efficiency and good beam quality. A signal pulse energy of 66 mJ at 1.572 μm wavelength is generated with 220 mJ of pump pulse input. A maximum gain of 66 and a maximum pump depletion of as high as 44% are determined. The spectral linewidth of the amplified signal pulse is around 50 MHz, and the beam quality factor of M2 is less than 2.3.

We demonstrate a diode-pumped passive Q-switched 946 nm Nd:YAG laser with a diffusion-bonded composite laser rod and a co-doped Nd,Cr:YAG as saturable absorber. The average output power of 2.1 W is generated at an incident pump power of 14.3 W, The peak power of the Q-switched pulse is 643 W with 80 kHz repetition rate and 40.8 ns pulse width. The slope efficiency and optical conversion efficiency are 17.6% and 14.7%, respectively.

A wavelength-tunable, efficient, and high-average power single diode-pumped continuons wave （CW） Yb：SSO laser is reported. A maximum output power of 8.8 W at 1 062.6 nm is obtained using the absorbed pump power of 11.7 W, which corresponds to a slope efficiency of 85.5% and an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 48.9%. The wavelength tuning of the Yb：SSO laser pumped by the 976-nm LD is also investigated. The results show the tuning range from 1 002.30 to 1068.47 nm, which corresponds to a tunability range of 66.17 nm.

High power second harmonic generation （SHG） in MgO-doped LiNbO3 waveguides is investigated using a three-dimensional （3D） coupled thermo-optical model. Simulations performed for a 1 lll.6-nm funda- mental laser show the influence of the absorptions and the thermally induced dephasing on the conversion efficieneies of the different waveguides. The onset of the thermally induced dephasing effect for each waveguide is also indicated. As a result of high light intensity in the waveguide, noniinear absorptions are identified as the possible main factors in efficiency losses in specific cases.

To obtain high power 589-nm yellow laser, a T-shaped thermal-insensitive cavity is designed. The optimal power ratio of 1064- and 1319-nm beams is considered and the fundamental spot size distribution from the output mirror to the two laser rods are calculated and simulated, respectively. As a result, a 589-nm yellow laser with the average output power of 5.7 W is obtained in the experiment when the total pumping power is 695 W. The optical-to-optical conversion efficiency from the fundamental waves to the sum frequency generation is about 15.2% and the pulse width is 150 ns at the repetition rate of 18 kHz. The instability of the yellow laser is also measured, which is less than 2% within 3 h. The beam quality factors are Mx^2 = 4.96 and My^2 = 5.08.

A periodically poled magnesium oxide-doped lithium niobate （5 mol% MgO：PPLN） intracavity optical parametric oscillator （OPO） pumped by a diode-pumped Q-switched Nd：YLF laser operating at 1.047 μm is reported. A broad continuous tunable middle-infrared （mid-IR） spectrum of 2.69-4.07μm is obtained by changing the crystal grating periods from 28.5 to 31.5 μm. When the diode pump power is 8 W, the intracavity OPO operating at a repetition rate of 10 kHz produces average output power of 0.42 W, corresponding to conversion efficiency of 5.2% from the laser diode pump to OPO idler output.
