Large conventional Osteosarcoma of the Proximal Humerus in a 13-Year-Old Child: Case Report

Introduction: Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor in children. It is highly aggressive and has a poor prognosis. A late presentation modifies and makes difficult the management affecting the survival of children. We report the case of a large conventional osteosarcoma in a 13-year-old girl. Case Presentation: Adolescent girl admitted for painful swelling of the left shoulder with absolute functional impotence of the thoracic limb and severe anemia. The painful swelling was thought to have been caused by a minor trauma that had occurred six months previously. The patient’s general condition was poor, and she presented with a large, shiny, painful mass over the shoulder and upper 2/3 of the left arm, measuring 28 cm long by 28 cm wide and 57 cm in circumference, and a large fistulous axillary adenopathy. CT scan showed a tumour lesion of the left humerus with liver and lung metastases, raising suspicion of osteogenic osteosarcoma. The tumor was classified according to TNM staging: T2N1M1(a + b). Management was modified when uncontrolled bleeding developed. It consisted of an extended amputation of the left thoracic limb. Pathological analysis showed a high-grade conventional osteosarcoma. Quality improvement was obtained for thirty days, followed by the onset of dyspnea. The evolution was towards death at forty days post-operatively. Conclusion: Osteosarcoma is a highly aggressive cancer. Delayed treatment leads to a fatal outcome. Early diagnosis is one of the challenges to be met in order to improve survival.

Stochastic price based coordinated operation planning of energy storage system and conventional power plant

A generation company(GENCO)which has a conventional power plant(CPP)intends to add an energy storage system(ESS)beside the CPP to increase its flexibility and *** this purpose,a new model is proposed for coordinated operation planning of the CPP and ESS in energy and spinning reserve markets in the presence of a bilateral *** proposed model is based on the stochastic price based unit commitment(PBUC)and price based storage commitment(PBSC).The uncertainties of the energy and spinning reserve prices and delivery requests in the spinning reserve market are modeled via scenarios based upon historical *** proposed model maximizes the profitability of the ESS beside the CPP and encourages the GENCO to invest the *** technology options to use beside the CPP are determined by economic *** results show that utilization of ESSs improves the technical operation of CPPs,as well as GENCOs’profitability.

Study on the Constitutive Model of Marble Based on the conventional Triaxial Compression Test

The RMB-150B rock mechanics test system was employed to obtain the complete stress-strain test curves under confining pressures of 0-30MPa for marble samples from Ya'an ,Sichuan province. On the basis of former study and the convention triaxial pressure test results ,the complete procedures curves which described the relationships between yielding strength、 peak strength、 residual strength and confining pressure was obtained. Taking the strain softening of rock into account, the bilinear elastic-linear softening-residual perfect plasticity four-linear model was put forward in this paper on the basis of the test results and theory of plasticity. This model was adopted to describe the behaviors of marble in different phases under triaxial compression with the constitutive equation of strain softening phase as focus. The results indicated that the theoretic model fitted in well with the test results.

Improvements to conventional X-ray tube-based cone-beam computed tomography system

conventional X-ray tube-based cone-beam computed tomography(CX-CBCT) systems have great potential in industrial applications. Such systems can rapidly obtain a three-dimensional(3D) image of an *** X-ray tubes fulfill the requirements for industrial applications, because of their high tube voltage and power. Continuous improvements have been made to CX-CBCT systems, such as imaging time shortening,acquisition strategy optimization, and imaging software development, etc. In this study, a CX-CBCT system is developed. Additionally, some improvements to the CX-CBCT system are proposed based on the hardware conditions of the X-ray tube and detector. A near-detector(ND)geometry condition is employed to obtain a sharper image and larger detection area. An improved acquisition strategy is proposed to simplify operations and reduce total imaging time. In the ND geometry condition, a simplified method called FBP slice stacking(SS-FBP) is proposed, which can be applied to 3D image reconstruction. SS-FBP is timesaving relative to traditional methods. Furthermore, imaging software for the CX-CBCT system is developed in the MATLAB environment. Several imaging experiments were performed. The results suggest that the CX-CBCT system works properly, and that the above improvements are feasible and practical.

Interactive antimicrobial and toxicity profiles of Pittosporum angustifolium Lodd. extracts with conventional antimicrobials

Objective: Pittosporum angustifolium Lodd. is used to treat a variety of pathogenic diseases and inflamma-tion by Australian aborigines. Practitioners of complementary medicine frequently use herbal medicines concurrently with conventional antibiotics. There is a need to evaluate their effects in combination. Methods: The bacterial growth inhibitory activity of P. angustifolium leaf extracts was assessed against a panel of pathogenic triggers of some autoimmune diseases by standard disc diffusion and liquid dilution minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) methods. Combinational effects between the extracts and con-ventional antimicrobials were classified using the sum of the fractional inhibitory concentration. Synergistic interactions were further assessed across a range of ratios by isobologram analysis. The tox-icity of the individual samples and combinations was evaluated by Anemia lethality and 3-(4,5-dimethyl thiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium) human dermal fibroblast cell viability assays. Results: P. angustifolium leaf extracts strongly inhibited the growth of several bacterial triggers of autoim-mune diseases. The methanolic, aqueous and ethyl acetate extracts were pwrticularly good inhibitors of Proteus mirabilis and Klebsiella pneumonia growth (MIC=26 and 57 ng/mL respectively). Some combinations of the extracts and conventional antibiotics signiflcantlv potentiated the combined inhibitory activity compared to the individual components. Of the 250 combinations studied, approximately 0.02% showed synergistic interactions, 49.6% were additive, 46.8% showed indifferent interactions and antago-nism occurred in only 0.02% of the combinations. Interestingly, all of the synergistic and antagonistic combinations contained tetracycline as their antibiotic component. Conclusion: P. angustifolium leaf extracts inhibit the growth of pathogenic triggers of some autoimmune diseases. Some extracts also potentiated the activity of co

Experimental Study on Thermal conventional Spinning of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy Complex Shape Shell

In this paper, the process of thermal conventional spinning of Ti-6Al-4V alloy complex shape shell is studied by experiment. Billet for Ti-6Al-4V alloy board is headed in the spinning process for multi-pass conventional spinning forming. With two spinning mandrel, the first is conventional spinning pre-forming and the second is conventional end forming, vacuum heat treatment after each spinning forming. As results, the mandrel preheating temperature impacts the spinning and the appropriate temperature range plays an important role in the process of spinning. With supplemental heating means and infrared thermometer measurement ensure a stable temperature. Multi-passing thermal spinning Ti-6Al-4V alloy thins the billet thickness, using the feature obtaining the wanting complex shape shell of thick bottom and thin mouth. The spinning track, the number of spinning pass, feed rate affect the billet thinning. During thermal spinning process Ti-6Al-4V alloy rebound severe. The size reduction and feed have impact on the rebound. By modifying the spinning parameters and the mandrel repair to ensure the dimensional accuracy of workpiece. Spinning workpiece has fine grain and high strength.
