A highly efficient cascaded P-doped Raman fiber laser （RFL） pumped by a 1064-nm continuous wave （CW） Nd：YVO4 solid-state laser is reported. 1.15-W CW output power at 1484 nm is obtained while the input pump power is 4 W, corresponding to the power conversion efficiency of 28.8%. The threshold pump power for the second-order Stokes radiation is 1.13 W. The slope efficiency is as high as 42.6%. The experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical ones. Furthermore, the power instability of the P-doped RFL at 1484 nm in an hour is observed to be less than 5%.

We have used the transverse correlated properties of the entangled photon pairs generated in the process of spontaneous parametric down-conversion, which is pumped by a femtosecond pulse laser, to perform Young's interference experiment. Unlike the case of a continuous wave laser pump, a broadband pulse laser pump can submerge an interference pattern. In order to obtain a high visibility interference pattern, we used a lens with a tunable focal length and two interference filters to eliminate the effects of the broadband pump laser. It is proven that the process of two-photon direct interference is a post-selection process.

A direction related polarizer was inserted into a ring laser cavity to eliminate one of the two eigen-modes as well as spatial hole burning of the gain medium in a bidirectional Er-doped fiber ring laser. Thus, a fiber ring laser gyroscope （FRLG） operating in continuous wave was demonstrated. A beat signal of over 30-dB noise was observed and a good linear relation between the beat frequency shift and cavity rotation rate was obtained.

Efficient continuous-wave （CW） intracavity frequency doubling of a diode-end-pumped Nd：GdVO4 laser operating on ^4F3/2 - ^4I9/2 transitions at 912 nm has been demonstrated. A symmetrical cavity with two laser rods is designed, which divides the pump power between the two laser rods, allowing for greater power scalability. An 18-mm-long BiBO crystal, cut for critical type I phase matching, is used for the intracavity frequency-doubled laser. A maximum output power of 6.2 W in the blue spectral range at 456 nm has been achieved with the pump power of 36 W. The beam quality M2 value is 2.5 in both horizontal and vertical directions. The ellipticity of the deep blue laser is 0.98, and the power stability is better than 3.2% at the maximum output power.

We report the fast lateral photovoltaic effect in pure congruent LiNbO3 crystal induced by pulsed laser and continuous wave laser with wavelengths of 355, 532, and 1064 nm. A typical ultrafast photovoltage can be observed on the surface perpendicular to the c axis, With the rise time of 1.5 ns and the full-width at half-maximum of 1-2 ns, when the laser pulse inhomogeneously irradiates on the crystal. The peak open-circuit photovoltages show a linear dependence on the incident laser intensities. The mechanism of the photovoltaic characteristics is proposed.

We design and build a cw high quality and high power Nd:YVO4 laser of single frequency operation with a laser-diode dual-end-pumped geometry. The influence of the Nd3+-doping concentration in the Nd:YVO4 crystal on the output performance of laser is theoretically and experimentally studied. With a Nd:YVO4 crystal of the Nd3+-doping concentration 0.3at.% and at pump power of 45W, the output power of the single frequency laser is 18W, and the slope efficiency is 48%.

In this letter, a novel mechanism of hybrid optical bistability is proposed by using nonlinear mechanism in the frequency domain. This device is based on electro-optical feedback through the fiber Bragg grating on piezoelectric transducer (PZT) to tune continuous wave (CW) fiber laser. The optical bistable characteristics for two manners of separately alternating input power and bias voltage are discussed. The smallest wavelength shift of the order of 0.001 nm needed to realize a switching process in this optical bistability device is estimated. The potential applications of this device in the optical fiber sensor technique are also discussed.

We demonstrate a narrow-linewidth linearly polarized 1645 nm Er：YAG laser, directly diode-pumped by a fiber- coupled continuous-wave laser diode at 1532 nm. Passive Q-switching is realized by a few-layer graphene satu- rable absorber. A maximum polarized average output power of 3.13 W is achieved at 23.28 W incident pump power. A pulse energy of as much as 58.8 μJ and pulse width of 4.21 μs are yielded at a 53.2 kHz pulse repetition rate. The spectrum and linewidth of the output beams are measured to be 1645.34 and 0.05 nm, respectively. This laser can be useful in the detection of atmosphere pollutants.
