Background:In consideration of the difficulty in diagnosing high heterogeneous glioma,valuable prognostic markers are urgent to be investigated.This study aimed to verify that connective tissue growth factor(CTGF)is associated with the clinical prognosis of glioma,also to analyze the effect of CTGF on the biological function.Methods:In this study,glioma and non-tumor tissue samples were obtained in 2012 to 2014 from the Department of Neurosurgery of Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University,Guangzhou,China.Based on messenger RNA(mRNA)data from the Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)and CCGA dataset,combined with related clinical information,we detected the expression of CTGF mRNA in glioma and assessed its effect on the prognosis of glioma patients.High expression of CTGF mRNA and protein in glioma were verified by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction,immunohistochemistry,and Western blotting.The role of CTGF in the proliferation,migration,and invasion of gliomas were respectively identified by methylthiazoletetrazolium assay,Transwell and Boyden assay in vitro.The effect on glioma cell circle was assessed by flow cytometry.For higher expression of CTGF in glioblastoma(GBM),the biological function of CTGF in GBM was investigated by gene ontology(GO)analysis.Results:In depth analysis of TCGA data revealed that CTGF mRNA was highly expressed in glioma(GBM,n=163;lowly proliferative glioma[LGG],w=518;non-tumor brain tissue,n=207;LGG,t=2.410,GBM,t=2.364,P<0.05).CTGF mRNA and protein expression in glioma(86%)was significantly higher than that in non-tumor tissues(18%)verified by collected samples.Glioma patients with higher expression of CTGF showed an obviously poorer overall survival(35.4 and 27.0 months compared to 63.3 and 55.1 months in TCGA and Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas(CGGA)databases separately,CGGA:x2=7.596,P=0.0059;TCGA:x2=10.46,P=0.0012).Inhibiting CTGF expression could significantly suppress the proliferation,migration,and invasion of gliomas.CTGF higher expression had been observed in GBM,and GO an

connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) is thought to be a specific mediator of TGF-β profibrogenic effect, but the role of CTGF in the transformation of renal fibroblasts to myofibroblasts, which are the most important host cells in the renal chronic fibrosis, is still unknown. Aimed at observing the biological effect of CTGF, we set up a cell line overexpressing CTGF, and analyzed the amount of myofibroblast and the level of extracellular matrix Collagen Ⅲ mRNA in cultured cells. Our results show that CTGF can directly induce myofibroblasts formation, and increase the level of Collagen Ⅲ mRNA. This suggests that CTGF may be a novel pharmacotherapeutical target protein for the interference with renal fibrosis, thus providing useful theoretic possibility for clinical prevention of chronic progression of kidney disease.

Effect of Sini decoction on angiotensin Ⅱ, transforming growth factor β_1 and connective tissue growth factor in rats with myocardial fibrosis-induced banding of the abdominal aorta

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Sini decoction on rats with myocardial fibrosis induced by banding the abdominal aorta, and explore the mechanism underlying its actions on angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang Ⅱ), transforming growth factor-β_1(TGF-β_1)and connective tissue growth factor(CTGF).METHODS: Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham operation, model, Captopril, and Sini decoction groups. The models were established by the partial banding of the abdominal aorta according to Doering's method.Eight weeks later, heart weight indexes were calculated; hemodynamic changes of the hearts were tested; changes in myocardial tissue morphology were observed by Masson staining; and myocardial collagen volume fraction was calculated. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure the concentration of Ang Ⅱ in serum. The expression of TGF-β_1 and CTGF were determined by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting.RESULTS: Compared with the sham operation group, the heart weight index, collagen volume fraction of the myocardium, serum levels of Ang Ⅱ,and the expression of myocardial TGF-β_1 and CTGF in the model group were significantly increased(P < 0.05). Compared with the model group, the heart weight index, collagen volume fraction of the myocardium, serum levels of Ang Ⅱ, and the expression of myocardial TGF-β_1 and CTGF in all treatment groups were significantly reduced(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Sini decoction reduced AngⅡ level and inhibited the expression of myocardial TGF-β_1 and CTGF, which may explain the mechanism of its protective effect on myocardium with fibrosis.

The Belt and Road Initiative in China＇s Emerging Grand Strategy of connective Leadership

As Chinese leaders endeavor to maintain the international environment aligned withtheir strategic aim of realizing the ＂＇dream of national rejuvenation, ＂＇ the remarkableincrease in China ＂s capabilities, coupled with uncertainty in the global economy and theambivalent attitude of the USA toward the international order, poses fresh challenges toBeijing＇s foreign policy. The present paper argues that a lexicographic preference for themitigation of the risk of pushback against China＇s core interests underpins the Belt andRoad Initiative. Pursuing a strategy of credible reassurance commensurate to the shift inthe distribution of power in China＇s neighborhood and globally, President Xi Jinping＇sadministration has been cultivating a form of connective leadership that commits Chinato the encapsulation of the Belt and Road Initiative for transregional connectivity intoits own national development strategy, generating an octroye, non-hegemonic, type ofinternational social capital and integrating the existing order without corroborating theposition of its founder.

Lingual Raynaud's phenomenon in a patient with mixed connective tissue disease

1|TEXT I present a case of lingual Raynaud's phenomenon(RP)in a 37-year-old Caucasian woman followed for mixed connective tissue disease(MCTD).During scheduled follow-up,she shared a selfie photograph demonstrating RP of the tongue with deep blue/violet discoloration.She was asymptomatic and had not recently eaten or drunk any cold or frozen food or liquid.Her tongue returned to normal coloration after about 2 min.

AIM:To establish the frequency and clinical features of connective tissue diseases(CTDs)in a cohort of Chinese patients with primary biliary cirrhosis(PBC).METHODS:Three-hundred and twenty-two Chinese PBC patients were screened for the presence of CTD,and the systemic involvement was assessed.The differences in clinical features and laboratory findings between PBC patients with and without CTD were documented.The diversity of incidence of CTDs in PBC of different countries and areas was discussed.For the comparison of normally distributed data,Student’s t test was used,while non-parametric test(Wilcoxon test)for the non-normally distributed data and 2×2χ2or Fisher’s exact tests for the ratio.RESULTS:One-hundred and fifty(46.6%)PBC patients had one or more CTDs.The most common CTD was Sj gren’s syndrome(SS,121 cases,36.2%).There were nine cases of systemic sclerosis(SSc,2.8%),12of systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE,3.7%),nine of rheumatoid arthritis(RA,2.8%),and 10 of polymyositis(PM,3.1%)in this cohort.Compared to patients with PBC only,the PBC+SS patients were more likely to have fever and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),higher serum immunoglobulin G(IgG)levels and more frequent rheumatoid factor(RF)and interstitial lung disease(ILD)incidences;PBC+SSc patients had higher frequency of ILD;PBC+SLE patients had lower white blood cell(WBC)count,hemoglobin(Hb),platelet count,γ-glutamyl transpeptidase and immunoglobulin M levels,but higher frequency of renal involvement;PBC+RA patients had lower Hb,higher serum IgG,alkaline phosphatase,faster ESR and a higher ratio of RF positivity;PBC+PM patients had higher WBC count and a tendency towards myocardial involvement.CONCLUSION:Besides the common liver manifestation of PBC,systemic involvement and overlaps with other CTDs are not infrequent in Chinese patients.When overlapping with other CTDs,PBC patients manifested some special clinical and laboratory features which may have effect on the prognosis.

Transient Stability Analysis of Large-scale Power Systems:A Survey

Transient stability analysis is a key problem in power system operation and planning.This paper aims at giving a comprehensive review on the modeling ideas and analysis methods for transient stability of large-scale power systems.For model construction,the general modeling of traditional power systems and special modeling for renewable generations and high-voltage direct-current transmissions are introduced.For transient stability analysis,Lyapunov based methods and non-Lyapunov based methods are thoroughly reviewed.In Lya-punov based methods,we focus on the energy function method,the sum-of-squares based method and decentralized stability analysis methods.Meanwhile,in non-Lyapunov based methods,the time-domain simulation,extended equal-area criterion and data-driven based methods are considered.The basic working principles,features and recent research progresses of all the above-mentioned methods are described in detail.In particular,their performances on several aspects,such as computational speed,conservativeness of stability region estimation or stability margin calculation,and adaptability to various types of system models,are mentioned.Finally,a brief discussion of potential directions for future research on transient stability analysis of large-scale power systems is included.Index Terms-connective stability,large-scale system analysis,Lyapunov functions,power systems,transient stability analysis.

Mixed connective tissue disease:a disease entity?

Objective To explicate whether mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is a distinct disease and evaluate the reliability of three different diagnostic criteria proposed by Sharp, Alarcon Segovia and Kasukawa respectively. Methods Clinical follows up of 50 MCTD patients lasted 2 8 years (80% >5 years). HLA A, B as well as DR typing was performed by complemently dependent cytotocity assay. Autoantibody profile was detected by counterimmune electrophoresis (CIE). Results Thirteen (26.0%) of the 50 MCTD patients subsequently developed other connective tissue disease (OCTD), including 7 systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE), and 6 progressive systemic scleroderma (PSS). Among 23 of the MCTD patients fulfilling Sharp's criteria, 1(4.3%) developed PSS, but among 23 of the patients fulfilling Kasukawa's, not Sharp's, 7(30.4%) developed OCTD and among 27 of the patients fulfilling Alarcon Segovia's, not Sharp's, 12(44.4%) developed OCTD. In the frequencies of DR4 and DR5, there were significant differences between patients fulfilling Sharp's (60.9%, 56.5%) and controls (24.3%, P0.05). Conclusions MCTD is a distict rheumatic disease. Sharp's criteria is the most reliable for diagnosis of MCTD.

connective Tissue Energy Loss Comparison between Joints with and without Hypermobility

Joint hypermobility syndrome is a condition in which a joint can move effortlessly beyond the normal limit of motion expected for that joint. This syndrome is affected by some factors including gender and tends to be inherited. It may cause some symptoms such as pain in an individual’s synovial joints. The objective of the current study was to compare the energy loss of connective tissues between joints with and without hypermobility. A differential equation model, namely the Kelvin-Voigt model, was used for the energy loss analysis. The results show the difference in energy loss for the tissues attached to joints with and without joint hypermobility. As the stiffness of the connective tissue decreases, the energy loss increases. Muscle activity about the ankle was measured via electromyography during simple functional tasks, and the recorded data were used to correlate with the theoretical analysis of the energy loss. The result would shed light on the pathology analysis of the symptoms such as the cause of pain.
