Kelvin-Helmhotz roll up of the 3-D time-developing mixing was simulated numerically. The dye lines or fluid interfaces were presented by computing a passive scalar at high Peclet number. The hydric bubbles were also simulated numerically. To help understanding the visualization results, the behaviour of coherent structures were analyzed. A comparison between vortical structure and passive scalar contours indicates that the wrapping by the vortices largely dominates the evolution of passive scalar.

Grain size control of tungsten powder is essential for high quality tungsten products. Based on studies on the hydrogen reduction process of tungsten oxide, a microcomputer system is described for reduction process control. The system, now running in Zhuzhou Tungsten and Molybdenum Materials Plant, controls the temperature of the reduction furnace and hydrogen pressure. It also controls a mechanical pusher which pushs the boats charged with blue tungsten oxide into the furnace tubes. Some of the technical problems in the process are analysed.

Evaluation of Metal Fatigue Problems Using Qualitative Reasoning Approach

Fatigue failures are often encountered in steel structures under heavy cyclic loadings. This paper presents metal fatigue problems in structural engineering using outcomes of recent advancements in numerical qualitative reasoning. Qualitative reasoning provides an effective and sound technique for solving complex and uncertain scenarios, regardless of the uncertainty or linearity of the design parameters and their constraints. This paper introduces the algorithms behind a software platform, built upon numerical qualitative reasoning for engineering applications. The software expresses the results of the analysis in variable ranges and diagrams showing a two-dimensional design space. The capability of representing design parameters and outcomes in solution spaces provides a practical way for engineers to leverage their existing knowledge and experience. Case studies in metal fatigue design are given to reflect on the capability of qualitative reasoning in engineering applications.

In this paper a new technique for measuring strain is presented. Using grating as the strain sensor, we can obtain strain and stress components by measuring the deformation of the space position of diffraction spots. The cost of the holographic grating by embossing is much reduced. By using the video and computer techniques the strain and stress values can be obtained automatically.

Semantic Comprehension Method for Chinese Sentences Based on Minimal Semantic Structures and Its Application

The importance of small Chinese sentences is no less than that of sentences, which is an inherent feature of Chinese itself. According to this characteristic, this paper proposes a sentence semantic understanding method for Chinese scientific and technological abstracts based on the minimum semantic structure. Firstly,a conceptual model was established for identifying the minimum semantic structure of a sentence based on a corpus of verbs, relative words, prepositions and markers based on Language Technology Planform(LTP) ***, the model was used to extract the minimum semantic structure of abstract sentence. Finally, three experiments were carried out, namely, the classification of the abstract sentences, knowledge graph generation and automatic semantic inference discovery. Our study confirmed the practical value of the small Chinese *** experimental results show that the effect of using small sentences to understand the semantics of Chinese text is better than that of the full stop sentence, and the minimum semantic structure can be used as the basic unit of the Chinese sentence semantic comprehension. This method is conducive in the automatic understanding of the basic semantics of sentences in unstructured Chinese science and technology text sentences.

The aim of this paper is to present the main results arisen from the joint efforts of the public-private partnership in being between CCII （Centro Cultura Innovativa d＇Impresa） of University of Salento and Apphia s.r.l.. This paper will focus on the results of the core of the OBSS （on board stability system） module that, starting from the exact 3D geometry of a ship hull, described by a discrete model in a standard format, the distribution of all weights onboard and the data acquired by the system, calculates ship floating conditions （in draught, heel and trim）. The proposed approach is based on geometry meshes represented by an universally accepted file format （named OBJ） first developed by Wavefront Technologies. Demonstration of the validity of the results is done by the authors using as hull model a simple rectangular box.
