A cognitive model＇s view of animal cognition

Although it is a relatively new field of study, the animal cognition literature is quite extensive and difficult to synthesize. This paper explores the contributions a comprehensive, computational, cognitive model can make toward organizing and assimilating this literature, as well as toward identifying important concepts and their interrelations. Using the LIDA model as an example, a framework is described within which to integrate the diverse research in animal cognition. Such a framework can provide both an ontology of concepts and their relations, and a working model of an animal＇s cognitive processes that can compliment active empirical research. In addition to helping to account for a broad range of cognitive processes, such a model can help to comparatively assess the cognitive capabilities of different animal species. After deriving an ontology for animal cognition from the LIDA model, we apply it to develop the beginnings of a database that maps the cognitive facilities of a variety of animal species. We conclude by discussing future avenues of research, particularly the use of computational models of animal cognition as valuable tools for hypotheses generation and testing [Current Zoology 57 （4）： 499-513, 2011].

Modeling and simulation(M&S)play a critical role in both engineering and basic research ***-based models have existed since the 1950s,and those early models have given way to the more complex computational and physics-based simula-tions used *** such,a great deal of research has been done to establish what level of trust should be given to simulation outputs and how to verify and validate the mod-els used in these *** paper presents an overview of the theoretical work done to date defining formal definitions for,and methods of,verification and validation(V&V)of computer *** models are broken down into three broad cate-gories:analytical and simulation models,computational and physics-based models,and simulations of autonomous systems,and the unique theories and methods developed to address V&V of these models are *** paper also presents the current prob-lems in the theoretical field of V&V for models as simulations move from single system models and simulations to more complex simulation *** particular,this paper high-lights the lack of agreed-upon methods for V&V of simulations of autonomous systems,such as an autonomous unmanned vehicles,and proposes some next steps needed to address this problem.

Flavonoids were well-known for their considerable in vitro bioactivities and poor oral *** better understand the biological fate of flavonoids,virtual combinatorial chemistry,3D molecular fields and Partial Least Square-Data Discrimination(PLSDA) analysis were utilized to virtually predict the Caco-2 cells permeability of flavone *** on our preliminary results,two basic rules were concluded.(1) Hydroxylations commonly hinder the Caco-2 cells permeation of flavone aglycones,while hydroxyl-methylations help recover Caco-2 cells penetration;(2) Either hydroxylations or methoxylations on the B-ring of flavone aglycones possibly the most hinders the Caco-2 cells *** though the reported data of a specific flavone aglycone was highly variable in different publications, rule 1 had been greatly approved by reports with purposeful study ***,to date,there was not enough data to support rule 2,whose rationality has to be discussed by further experiments with purposeful study design.
