Essential training steps to achieving competency in the basic intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography examination for Chinese anesthesiologists

Guidelines for the intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography （TEE） examination have defined a detailed standard for medical professionals, particularly anesthesiologists, on how a TEE exam should proceed. Over the years, TEE has gained substantial popularity and emerged as a preferred monitoring modality to aid in perioperative management and decision making during hemodynamic instability situations or critical care settings. TEE training pathways and practice guidelines have been well established in western countries and many regions of the world. However, TEE training and practice information for anesthesiologists are lacking in China. As innovative technologies develop, other educational models have emerged to aid in obtaining competency in basic TEE exam. Hence, establishing a consensus on the ideal TEE training approach for anesthesiologists in China is urgently needed. Developing an effective curriculum that can be incorporated into an anesthesiology resident＇s overall training is also necessary to provide knowledge and skills toward competency in basic TEE exam. With evolving medical system reforms and increasing demands for intraoperative hemodynamic monitoring to accommodate surgical innovations, anesthesiology professionals are increasingly obliged to perform intraoperative TEE exams in their current and future practices. To overcome obstacles and achieve significant progress in using the TEE modality to help in intraoperative management and surgical decision making, publishing basic TEE training guidelines for China＇s anesthesiologists is an important endeavor.

SUMMARY Postpartum psychosis is a condition characterised by rapid onset of psychotic symptoms several weeks after childbirth. Outside of its timing and descriptions of psychotic features, minimal research exists due to its relative rarity (1 to 2 per 1000 births in the USA), with greater emphasis on postpartum sadness and depression. With the existi叩 literature, cultural differences and language barriers previously have not been taken into consideration as there are no documented cases of postpartum psychosis in a non-English-speaki叩 patient. Correctly differentiating postpartum psychosis from other postpartum psychiatric disorders requires adeptly evaluating for the presence of psychotic symptoms with in-depth history taking.

Mediating effect of self-efficacy in relationship between emotional intelligence and clinical communication competency of nurses

Objective:This study investigates the emotional intelligence(EI),self-efficacy,and clinical communication ability of clinical nurses to explore the correlation among these three variables,and verify the mediating effect of self-efficacy on relationship between EI and communication ***:A total of 865 nurses were recruited and investigated using Wong and Law's Emotional Intelligence Scale,General Self-Efficacy Scale,and nurse clinical communication ***:The scores for EI and self-efficacy of nurses were 14.23±2.61 and 25.36±5.67,respectively,which were lower than the international norm(pcompetency of nurses was positively correlated with EI and general ***,selfefficacy played an intermediary role between EI and clinical communication ***:Nursing administrators can improve the clinical communication ability of nurses by enhancing their self-efficacy and EI.

The effects of emotional labor and competency on job satisfaction in nurses of China: A nationwide cross-sectional survey

Objectives:This study aimed to explore the status of job satisfaction,emotional labour,core competencies and job stress and the associations of emotional labour and core competencies with the job satisfaction of nurses in ***:Data were collected by using a self-designed general information questionnaire,a job satisfaction questionnaire(McCloskey/Mueller Satisfaction Scale),a nurse emotional labour questionnaire,the competency Inventory for Registered Nurses questionnaire,and a nurse job stressor questionnaire.A total of 13,448 nurses from 92 hospitals across mainland of China were surveyed,and 11,337 respondents(84.3%response rate)completed the ***:The survey results indicated that Chinese nurses had average job satisfaction(24.77±5.23),moderate job stress(86.84±21.12),moderate to high emotional labour experiences(55.08±9.63)and high competency(195.77±37.61).Multiple linear regression indicated that surface acting was negatively correlated with job satisfaction(Pcompetency of nurses may help enhance their job satisfaction.

Self-directed learning readiness and nursing competency among undergraduate nursing students in Fujian province of China

Objective:To establish basic data for identifying the level of mental health care competency of general nurses through verification of the reliability and validity of competency Assessment Tool-Mental Health in the development of a measurement tool for mental health care competency in ***:This study was conducted on nurses working at general wards,excluding those working at the Department of Psychiatry,in five hospitals with 200 beds or more located in ***,construct,concurrent validity,and internal consistency of the measurement were ***:As a result of the construct validity,the section on importance of skills and knowledge for mental health care had 21 items,whereas the section on benefits of additional education had 22 *** internal consistency of measurement was confirmed as follows:Cronbach’s α=0.96 for the section on importance and 0.96 for the section on benefits ***:This study verified the high validity and reliability of the tool in assessing the mental health care competency of nurses,and it is believed to be significant as basic data for enhancing such competency.

Ethiopia is an agrarian country and agriculture is the backbone of its economy. Consequently, the government of Ethiopia has devised Agricultural Development Led Industrialization (ADLI) as the country’s overall economic development policy. For the last 15 years, public investment towards the expansion of higher education, research and extension in agriculture has been so enormous. In reality, however, these higher education and research institutions were not sufficiently responsive to rural transformation. Thus, to evaluate the role of higher education and research institutions in stimulating rural transformation and to identify main training constraints accountable for their poor performances in institutional learning and rural transformation is of paramount importance. To this effect focus group discussions and key informant interviews were conducted. Stratified and purposive sampling technique was dominantly employed during the survey studies. The result of the study has shown that higher education and research institutions were less responsive to address the actual problems of small-scale farmers and they were limited by a number of constraints/challenges to address the actual problems of farmers. The major constraints were, to list some, limited involvement in research and extension works by the university staff, students limited practical attachments of the training programmes with farming communities, limited infrastructures and facilities and limited availability of contextualized learning resources. In addressing the aforesaid constraints/challenges, the university staff should proportionally allocate time in the research and extension activities on top of practical teaching supported by local research results and experience;involving students on practical attachments both in their academic and vacation time;giving emphasis on basic training preparation like fulfilling libraries, laboratories, demonstration fields and transportation facilities;and lastly t

competency Improvement Needs of Farmers in Soil Erosion Prevention and Control for Enhancing Crop Production: Case Study of Kogi State, Nigeria

This study investigated the competency improvement needs of farmers in soil erosion prevention and control for enhancing crop production in Kogi state of Nigeria and was carried out between January and June, 2014. The study adopted descriptive survey research design and was guided by two research questions. The study found out that farmers needed improvement on 37 cultural practices as follows: 10 competencies in mulching, 12 in cover cropping, 8 in strip cropping, 7 in contour farming and 45 mechanical field practice as follows: 10 competencies in contour bonding, 11 in terracing, 12 in channeling and 11 in tunneling for success in soil erosion prevention and control. The study recommended the organization of rural based programmes for the training of farmers in the practice identified to enhance their competencies in soil erosion prevention and control for increased crop production.

Background: competency assessment has a key role in the assurance of quality professionals in every discipline. competency assessment is a method by which we can verify that our employees are competent to perform tasks timely. To derive the greatest benefit from the application of competency assessment in the health professionals, we must be sure that we are addressing areas where our efforts are utilized to optimize the patient care. There is no research done on the competency assessment so far except the report send by Technical Vocational and Educational Training. Objectives: To assess knowledge, attitude and practice of health professionals towards competency assessment and factors were associated with competencies at Debre Birhan Health Science College, 2013. Methods: A facility based cross sectional study was conducted using interview technique. Study participants were all students taking competency assessment in all departments at Debre Berhan Health Science College in two rounds. The percentage of participants who were competent was computed. Factors associated with competency were assessed using bivariate and multivariable logistic regression. Results: Among the total participants (n = 287), (57.8 percent) were female. Among the (n = 287) study participants, 226 (78.7%) were competent. Of these, 88.5% of the candidates were learned at governmental institution. Predictors of competency were department of the respondent AOR [95%];0.05 [0.01, 0.45], expectation of the results [AOR (95% CI) = 0.13 (0.02, 0.85)], number of competency taken [AOR (95% CI) = 0.11 (0.01, 0.88)] and candidates’ knowledge of their right and obligations AOR [95%];3.7 [1.3, 10.3]. Conclusions: Significant numbers of candidates were not yet competent due to various factors at different level. Therefore, comprehensive work should be done on the instructors, students and the center to make the candidates competent.

Need for Achievement： competency-Based Testing and Its Normative Premises 1970-2000

competency-based testing is part of a broader trend towards a psychologization of the pedagogical which is characteristic for the educational systems of the USA and Europe in the second halve of the 20th century. The article examines David C. McClelland＇s pathbreaking paper Testing for Competence Rather Than for ＂Intelligence （1973） as an important testimony of this trend. McClelland＇s paper breaks down into two halves that rely on fundamentally different normative premises： on the one hand the political demand for social equality, on the other hand the economic demand for increased performance. Only the latter demand, which is formulated most forcefully in McClelland＇s book The Achieving Society （1961）, can be considered as a crucial factor in determining the course of the recent reforms of the educational systems of the German-speaking world. A clear example of this can be seen in Franz E. Weinert＇s influential paper on Comparative Performance Measurement in Schools （2001）.
