Predicting adolescent perfectionism: The role of socio-demographic traits, personal relationships, and media

BACKGROUND The present study investigated perfectionism from the bioecological model perspective as a multidimensional construct manifested in forms of excessively high personal standards,exaggerated worries about personal mistakes,doubt in one’s performance,oversized order and organization emphasis,and the importance of parental valuations and expectations.AIM To investigate the relation between perfectionism;the quality of family,peer,and college relationships;and media usage and content interests.METHODS The research was implemented in 2020 with 203 students(134 female,66%)aged 18-25 years,enrolled at the University of Osijek in Croatia.The questionnaire had five parts:A)sociodemographic data;B)the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale;C)the“general life satisfaction”and“current situational life satisfaction”scale;D)family,peer,and college relationships quality scale;and E)media usage and content interests scale.All of the implemented instruments showed satisfactory reliability.A hierarchical regression analysis was implemented with the aim of establishing significant perfectionism predictors.RESULTS Age and gender were significant predictors of perfectionism.Participants with lower family relationship quality reported higher parental expectations and complaining as well as significantly higher doubts in personal performance and concern about mistakes.Similarly,a lower peer relationship quality predicted doubts in personal performance and stronger concerns about mistakes.The quality of college relationships positively predicted higher perfectionist personal standards and organization.General life satisfaction predicted higher concerns about mistakes,while current situational life satisfaction predicted higher levels of perfectionist organization.Media usage intensity had no significant effect.Adolescent interest in information-educational media predicted higher personal standards as well as concern about mistakes and organization.Higher interests in entertainment media content predicted more concern about mista

To The Editor,I want to congratulate Jin and colleagues for their article entitled “ABO blood group is a predictor of survival in patients with laryngeal cancer” recently reported in Chinese Journal of Cancer, in which they assessed whether the ABO blood group was associated with prognosis in patients with laryngeal cancer [1]. They reported that compared with the patients with blood group non-O,patients with blood group O had significantly shorter OS.However, there is no satisfactory explanation why laryngeal cancer patients with blood group O had shorter OS.Blood group antigens are expressed on the surface of red blood cells and numerous other tissues throughout the body, including different types of cancer cells as well [2].These A or B antigens located on laryngeal cancer cell surface may be recognized from the immune system as antigenic foci. Hence, laryngeal cancer cells carrying A or B or both antigens could be destroyed by the immune system. On the other hand, laryngeal cancer cells harboring neither A nor B antigens, so-called type O cancer cells may not be recognized by immune cells and therefore may escape from immune destruction.

Hubei Students Circle and Hubei in the Late Qing Dynasty

As the first paper named after the province and founded by the Chinese studied in Japan at the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China,the historical position and academic values of Hubei Students Circle has long been paid attention to either from the perspective of press history or modern history or thought history.It shows it is closely linked to the late Qing Dynasty in Hubei Province that the publication named "Hubei".In order to do a little bit contribution to the study of the Hubei Students Circle and Hubei in the late Qing Dynasty,the author attempts to interpret the subject of Hubei Students Circle and Hubei in the Qing Dynasty from the above aspects completely and originally.Critiques are welcome.

In May and June,together with my colleagues from Chinese Culture Promotion Society,I invited dozens of experts to hold a workshop on cultural exchanges with foreign countries by social groups.The workshop took place in Shanghai, Xi'an and Beijing successively.One of my most impressive observations is that,when it comes to this new topic,it is the issue of perception that should be focused on first rather than policies, governance,finance or other related work.

Concept Development and Implementation of Family Care/Caring Theory in Concentric Sphere Family Environment Theory

Caring is directed toward a variety of things. One of them is thought to be the concept of “family caring” aimed at families. This study attempts to clarify family caring and develop Family Care/ Caring Theory (FCCT), with the aim of implementing it in conjunction with an existing family nursing theory, the Concentric Sphere Family Environment Theory (CSFET). In Japan and in Hong Kong, family ethnography (including formal interviews) was conducted. As a result, the item “family health care nurses and their colleagues” was added to the family external environment of the CSFET. In the family environment, evidence was obtained to the effect that the family system unit is cared for by the nursing professional, and conversely the family system unit cares for the nursing professional, in a circular transaction. Observing the two-dimensional plane formed by the structural distance and functional distance, family caring assumes a structure of concentric circles, and according to transactions, the structural distance and functional distance between the nursing professional and family system unit are gradually approached, and through deepening of mutual trust maintain an appropriate distance. Moreover observing the three-dimensional space-time continuum which is created through addition of the temporal distance, family caring forms a helical structure. As transactions are repeated along the temporal axis, the family system unit’s self-actualization of other individuals and the self-actualization of the nursing professional are realized. Through these processes, a family care/caring relationship is reinforced and established. This is the concept of FCCT. Through future utilization in clinical settings this will be empirically substantiated, and it will be necessary to continue making creative corrections and revisions.
