Increased risk of colorectal cancer in young males with higher cardiovascular risk:A nationwide population-based cohort study

BACKGROUND Although the link between cardiovascular disease(CVD)and various cancers is well-established,the relationship between CVD risk and colorectal cancer(CRC)remains *** To elucidate the relationship between CVD risk scores and CRC *** In this population-based cohort study,participants from the 2009 National Health Checkup were followed-up until *** cardiovascular(CV)risk score was calculated as the sum of risk factors(age,family history of coronary artery disease,hypertension,smoking status,and high-density lipoprotein levels)with high-density lipoprotein(≥60 mg/dL)reducing the risk score by *** primary outcome was incidence of newly diagnosed *** Among 2526628 individuals,30329 developed CRC during a mean follow-up of 10.1 *** by CV risk scores(0,1,2,and≥3).CRC risk increased with higher CV risk scores after adjusting for covariates[(hazard ratio=1.155,95%confidence interval:1.107-1.205)in risk score≥3,P<0.001].This association individuals not using ***,even in participants without diabetes,a higher CV risk was associated with an increased CRC *** Increased CV risk scores were significantly associated with higher CRC risk,especially among males,younger populations,and non-statin ***,males with a higher CV risk score,even at a younger age,are recommended to control their risk factors and undergo individualized CRC screening.

Objective The relationship between fish consumption and stroke is inconsistent,and it is uncertain whether this association varies across predicted stroke *** A cohort study comprising 95,800 participants from the Prediction for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk in China project was conducted.A standardized questionnaire was used to collect data on fish *** were stratified into low-and moderate-to-high-risk categories based on their 10-year stroke risk prediction *** ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)were estimated using Cox proportional hazard models and additive interaction by relative excess risk due to interaction(RERI),attributable proportion(AP),and synergy index(SI).Results During 703,869 person-years of follow-up,2,773 incident stroke events were *** fish consumption was associated with a lower risk of stroke,particularly among moderate-to-high-risk individuals(HR=0.53,95%CI:0.47-0.60)than among low-risk individuals(HR=0.64,95%CI:0.49-0.85).A significant additive interaction between fish consumption and predicted stroke risk was observed(RERI=4.08,95%CI:2.80-5.36;SI=1.64,95%CI:1.42-1.89;AP=0.36,95%CI:0.28-0.43).Conclusion Higher fish consumption was associated with a lower risk of stroke,and this beneficial association was more pronounced in individuals with moderate-to-high stroke risk.

BACKGROUND Patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC)have a low incidence rate,poor biological activity,suboptimal response to conventional treatments,and a poor *** the previous cohort study on mCRC conducted by our team,it was observed that integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment could significantly prolong the overall survival(OS)of patients with colorectal ***,we further explored the survival benefits in the population with BRAF V600E mutant *** To evaluate the efficacy of integrated Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal *** A cohort study was conducted on patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer admitted to Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from January 2016 to December *** patients were divided into two *** A total of 34 cases were included,with 23 in Chinese-Western medicine cohort(cohort A)and 11 in Western medicine cohort(cohort B).The median overall survival was 19.9 months in cohort A and 14.2 months in cohort B,with a statistically significant difference(P=0.038,hazard ratio=0.46).The 1-3-year survival rates were 95.65%(22/23),39.13%(9/23),and 26.09%(6/23)in cohort A,and 63.64%(7/11),18.18%(2/11),and 9.09%(1/11)in cohort B,*** analysis showed statistically significant differences in median OS between the two cohorts in the right colon,liver metastasis,chemotherapy,and first-line treatment subgroups(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Integrated Chinese and Western medicine can prolong the survival and reduce the risk of death in patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer,with more pronounced benefits observed in patients with right colon involvement,liver metastasis,combined chemotherapy,and first-line treatment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine in the prevention and treatment of stable angina pectoris in patients with coronary heart disease based on the theory of "phlegm and blood stasis" under guidance of evidence-based medicine:a prospective cohort study

OBJECTIVE: To ascertain whether continuous treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) combined with standardized drug therapy from Western Medicine can further reduce the incidence of cardiovascular events in patients with coronary heart disease and angina and reduce the incidence of angina pectoris in patients with coronary heart ***: A multicenter, prospective cohort study of 1042 patients in 22 hospitals was conducted. A total of 423 patients with angina pectoris were treated with standardized Western Medicine alone(control group) and 619 with a combination of Chinese and Western Medicine(exposure group). The two groups underwent follow-up for 1 year to establish whether there was any improvement in the incidence of cardiovascular events or change in the curative ***: The incidence of primary endpoint events in the combined-exposure group decreased by 0.45%(P > 0.05) and the incidence of secondary terminal events decreased by 5.25% in comparison with the control group(P < 0.05). The total angina pectoris score clearly decreased in the Western Medicine group over the first 6 months, but the decline was more apparent in the combined-exposure ***: Compared with treatment using standardized Western Medicine alone, providing TCM combined with Western medical treatment reduced the incidence of cardiovascular events in patients with stable angina pectoris(grade Ⅱ endpoint) and effectively improved the curative effect.

Factors affecting rate of stroke-related death in elderly male military population A 23-year cohort study of 1268 cases in Xi'an,China

The study is the first long-term cohort study examining stroke and its subtypes among a population of Chinese elderly male retired military veterans. We reported on a 23-year cohort study examining stroke in 1 268 elderly male patients living in Xi＇an, China since 1987. The stroke-related mortality rate in this cohort was 361.50/1 x 106 per year. Cerebral hemorrhage was the dominant cause of death, with 28 cases of fatal cerebral infarction and 49 cases of fatal cerebral hemorrhage among 77 stroke-related deaths. Independent risk factors for stroke mortality included age, blood pressure, smoking, body mass index, family history of hypertension, past medical history of stroke, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Among them, ischemic stroke mortality correlated with age, smoking, family history of hypertension and past medical history of stroke, while hemorrhagic stroke was related to blood pressure, body mass index and past medical history of hypertension. Our results indicated that maintaining appropriate levels of blood pressure and body mass, smoking cessation and prevention of hyperlipidemia can reduce the risk of stroke-related death in elderly males who are retired from military service.

Background:Mushrooms are a good source of many nutrients which are potentially beneficial for chronic *** speculated that due to its abundant nutrients edible mushrooms might have a beneficial effect on the prevention of subclinical thyroid dysfunction(SCTD).Therefore,we designed a large-scale cohort study to examine whether mushrooms consumption is a protective factor for SCTD in ***:This prospective cohort study investigated 6631 participants(mean age:(45.0±10.2)years;55.1%men).Edible mushrooms consumption was measured at baseline using a validated food frequency *** was defined as abnormal serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels and normal free *** proportional hazards regression models were used to examine the association of edible mushrooms consumption with incident ***:During follow-up period,a total of 262 new cases of SCTD were identified,the incidence rate of subclinical hypothyroidism was 8.9/1000 person-years and subclinical hyperthyroidism was 7.2/1000 *** adjusting potential confounding factors,the multivariable hazard ratios(95%confidence intervals)for subclinical hypothyroidism were 1.00(reference)for almost never,0.53(0.29,0.97)for 1-3 times/week and 0.30(0.10,0.87)for≥4 times/week(P for trend=0.02).It also showed edible mushrooms consumption was inversely associated with subclinical hypothyroidism in obese individuals but not non-obese individuals,the final hazard ratios(95%confidence intervals)were 0.14(0.03,0.73)(P for trendcohort study has firstly demonstrated that higher edible mushrooms consumption was significantly associated with lower incidence of subclinical hypothyroidism among general adult population,especially in obese individuals.
