China’s coastal zone is experiencing rapid population growth, increased economic development and continuing urbanization which exacerbates coastal ecosystem degradation and environmental *** coastal zone management(ICZM) is adopted by the Chinese government as a promising management mechanism to alleviate the conflicts in economic growth, social stability and environmental protection, so as to achieve more sustainable coastal *** paper, based on a PhD program on the legal and regulatory framework for ICZM, demonstrates the current legislation and institutions for coastal zone management in China and discussed their constraints in achieving *** research findings indicated that the Chinese government should manage the coastal zone as one unit with both land and waters being ***, a national coastal law is necessary for such a vast country as China and the integration among agencies is essential for the *** addition, it is not reasonable to have the State Oceanic Administration(SOA) as the leading agency for coastal zone management in China, since its jurisdiction does not involve any terrestrial land on the coastal zone.

Construction of marine ranching system in Zhangzidao island of Dalian:study on remediation of coastal environment and effect of stock enhancement

Nowadays the important effect of artificial reefs was recognized among academic community on remediation of fishery environment,construction of marine ranching and stock enhancement. From 2003 to 2005,four types of artificial reefs were deployed in 15 sites around Zhangzidao islands, which were 30,000 individuals and reached about 50,000 *** parameters(including salinity,pH,DO,water clarity,temperature,ocean current,NH4-N,NO-N,NO-N, PO-P,COD)were monitored and demersal marine biology resource were surveyed on July,2006 and June,*** show that the average value of salinity,pH,DO,water clarity,inorganic nitrogen, PO-P,COD in reef areas were 30,8.16,7.28 mg/L,7 m,0.074 mg/L,0.0027 mg/L, 0.86gm/L respectively,and that water quality was *** stock of Apostichopus japonicus, Strongylocentrotus nudus,and Haliotis discus hannai in unit reef area increased remarkably after broadcasting seeds on *** algae were *** average amount of these three species in unit area before deploying reefs and without reefs were zero,but individual abundance after deploying reefs reached 7.3,6,and 0.3,and total biomass of these three species was 0.058g/*** results indicate that construction of artificial reefs had important function on rehabilitation and restore of marine habitats,enhancement of stock and especially construction of marine ranching of valuable commercial sea species.

Meshless Method with Domain Decomposition for Submerged Porous Breakwaters in Waves

Summery Intra-Tidal Variations of Suspended Sediment Transportation–Topographical Response and Dynamical Mechanism in the Aoshan Bay and Surrounding Area,Shandong Peninsula

As the second largest bay in Qingdao,the Aoshan Bay and its adjacent sea area play an important role in aquaculture development and urban land and sea coordination for the eastern gulf type of city in the Qingdao Blue Silicon Valley Core Area(QBSVCA).Based on in-situ sedimentary dynamical observation and previous research results,the thermohaline structure,the transportation of suspended sediment and its mechanism,and the coastal geomorphic response were elaborated and analyzed in detail in this *** result indicated that the thermohaline and density distribution have obvious intra-tidal characteristics in the QBSVCA and the adjacent waters of the islands,during summer neap tide *** development of the bottom high suspended sediment concentration(SSC)layer was slightly enhanced in flood slack at each of the four *** sediment transportation near the QBSVCA is related closely with the vertical mixing-stratification *** with previous research results,this study once again showed that submarine topography and the grain size of sea bed sediments would respond to hydrodynamic *** medians of the bottom E and D50 in the Aoshan Bay were the highest,followed by those in the Daguan Island and Xiaoguan Island,and the data in the Laoshan Bay were the *** showed that the capacity of suspended sediment transportation in the bottom water layer of the Aoshan Bay was stronger than that of the adjacent sea *** re-suspension and migration of fine sediments lead to the strong coarsening of sediments in this area.

In this study,a set of coupled multi-media compartments(i.e.,sediment,soil,water and vegetable)was used to assess ecological and health risks from the ingestion of 11 PTEs(Pb,Cd,Cr,As,Hg,Cu,Zn,Ni,Co,Fe,and Mn)and their transportation routes in the water-soil-plant system from the coastal Bhola Island,*** mean concentrations of Cd,Pb,and Co for soil and Cd,Co,and As for sediment were higher than their reference *** contrast,Cd,Pb,and Ni concentrations in water surpassed the acceptable limits set by national and international laws and were considered unsuitable for drinking *** demonstrated high Pb and Cd contents,demonstrating a potential food safety risk to the *** of principal component analysis(PCA)revealed that Cd,Pb,Hg,Cu,Ni and Zn sources were likely to be anthropogenic,especially agro-farming inputs,whereas the Fe,As,Cr,Mn,and Co sources were similar to natural ***,Cd,Pb and Co are the key contaminants in the study area and pose the elevated health and ecological risks in the coastal *** and Pb exhibited higher ecological risks in soils and sediments,as Pb had the highest bio-accessibility(BA;0.02±0.003)and Cd possessed a high bioaccumulation factor(BCF;0.004±0.006).The self-organizing map analysis recognized three spatial patterns which are good agreement with *** average hazard index(HI)values for soil were above the permissible level(HI>1)set by the respective agency;two times higher HI values were noticed for children than adults,suggesting children are highly susceptible to health *** monitoring and source controls for Cd and Pb,along with agro-farming management practices,need to be implemented to reduce the risk of PTE contamination to the aquatic ecosystem and its inhabitants.

Holocene coastal envi ronmental changes in west coast of the Korean Peninsula inferred from salt marshes in Pyeongtaek wetland,Korea

Pyeongtaek wetland,whose name means "flat swamp",is a wide flat paleo-swamp formed during the early *** Pyeongtaek wetland is located near the central part of the west coast of the Korean Peninsula,and as it was formed during the early Holocene,this area can be particularly useful for investigating coastal plant community ecological responses to climate change and sea-level *** this study,we attempted to reconstruct the Holocene coastal depositional environment of the Pyeongtaek area in response to sea-level changes,based on agecontrolled pollen and phytoplanktonic algae *** East Asian monsoon-controlled coastal area is an open system that experiences an intensive interplay between oceanic and terrestrial *** ecological response of sensitive terrestrial ecosystems can provide independent data complementing the almost exclusively marine body of ***,coastal-especially intertidal-ecosystems can provide valuable information on past depositional environmental changes because such systems are very sensitive to environmental changes in the sea-continent *** 10400 cal;000 cal a BP,halophytic Chenopodiaceae pollen and marine dinoflagellates indicate the depositional environment was an intertidal *** 8000 cal and 6000 cal a BP,no marine dinoflagellates and abundant meso- to hypersaline salt marshes of Gramineae,with a later increase of mesosaline marshes of Cyperaceae,indicate a transition from intertidal flat to freshwater *** 6000 cal to 4500 cal a BP,aquatic genera and freshwater algae indicate that the study area completely changed to freshwater *** directional sequence in relative abundance of taxa（maximum percentage of pollen of Chenopodiaceae followed by Gramineae,Cyperaceae,and aquatics） suggests a gradational pattern indicative of marked environmental clines typical of intertidal habitats.
