Bonding performance of diamond grit to a co-si alloy

The bonding performance between synthetic diamond grit and adhesive ( co-si alloy) in polycrystalline diamond compact ( PDC) has been investigated. The results indicate that the carbide-forming element si diffuses towards the diamond grit and the quantity of si element in the inter layer of diamond grit-adhesives is about two times higher than that in the other area. New compound siC exists in the inter layer of diamond-adhesives. The formation of siC enhances the strength and prolongs the service life of PDC. The sintering time is important to the formation of siC.

Microstructural evolution during containerless rapid solidification of co-si alloys

The co-12%si hypoeutectic, co-12.52%si eutectic and co-13%si hypereutectic alloys are rapidly solidified in a containerless environment in a drop tube. Undercoolings up to 207K (0.14TE) are obtained, which play a dominant role in dendritic and eutectic growth. The coupled zone around co-12.52%si eutectic alloy has been calculated, which covers a composition range from 11.6 to 12.7%si. A microstructural transition from lamellar eutectic to divorced eutectic occurs to co-12.52%si eutectic droplets with increasing undercooling. The lamellar eutectic structure of the co-12.52%si alloy consists of εco and co3si phases at small undercooling. The coasi phase cannot decompose completely into εco and αco2si phases. As undercooling becomes larger, the co3si phase grows very rapidly from the highly undercooled alloy melt to form a divorced eutectic. The structural morphology of the co-12%si alloy droplets transforms from εco primary phase plus lamellar eutectic to anomalous eutectic, whereas the microstructure of co-13%si alloy droplets solution is the primary nucleation phase. In the highly undercooled alloy melts, the growth of εco and co3si phases is controlled by solutal diffusion.

Theoretical study of reactive melt infiltration to fabricate co-si/C composites

cobalt-silicon based carbon composites(co–si/C)have established a noteworthy consideration in recent years as a replacement for conventional materials in the automotive and aerospace *** achieve the composite,a reactive melt infiltration process(RMI)is used,in which a melt impregnates a porous preform by capillary *** method promises a high-volume fraction of reinforcement and can be steered in such a way to get the good“near-net”shaped components.A mathematical model is developed using reaction-formed co–si alloy/C composite as a prototype system for this *** wetting behavior and contact angle are discussed;surface tension and viscosity are calculated by Wang’s and Egry’s equations,*** radii of 5μm and 10μm are set as a reference on highly oriented pyrolytic *** graphs are plotted using the model,to study some aspects of the infiltration *** highlights the possible connections among the various *** this attempt,the co–si(62.5 at.%silicon)alloy’s maximum infiltration at 5μm and 10μm radii are found as 0.05668 m at 125 s and 0.22674 m at 250 s,respectively.
