In order to determine the most suitabl. cytokinin for the micropropagation of carob (ceratonia siliqua l.), the effect of four cytokinins: BAP, zeatin, kinetin and 2-iP, was tested on expl.nts derived from young seedl.ngs of seven days. Organogenesis is better in the presence of BAP (0.5 mg/l., whil. buds growth is favored by zeatin (0.5 mg/l.. The combination of the most suitabl. cytokinin (BAP at 0.5 mg/l. with IBA improves the caul.genesis when the concentration of this l.tter is l.w (0.1 mg/l.;high concentrations of IBA have an inhibitory effect on el.ngation and neoformation of shoots and l.aves. The mul.ipl.cation and growth of shoots are more favorabl. on WPM medium in the presence of BAP (0.5 and 1 mg/l. al.ne or combined with 0.5 mg/l.with GA3, whil. rooting is mainl. favored by IBA, especial.y at 2 mg/l.

Adventitious budding from embryonic cotyl.dons of immature seeds of carob was obtained. The combination of BAP (4.44 μM) and NAA (1.5 μM) furthered the neoformation of adventitious buds. These l.tter were mul.ipl.ed on MS medium added with BAP (2.22 μM). Stems and l.aves growing were improved by adding 2.02 μM GA3. El.ngation was favored by 0.5 μM NAA. 70% of rooting was obtained with 10 μM IBA.

The greatest fail.re rate of reforestation programs is basical.y rel.ted to water deficit,especial.y at the seedl.ng ***,the main objective of this work is to investigate the responses of three accessions of carob trees(ceratonia siliqua l.)with 2-year-ol. from different cl.mate regions to drought generated by four water treatments:Tc(250 mm),T1(180 mm),T2(100 mm),and T3(50 mm).The first accession(A1)comes from the protected national.park of Ichkeul.in northern *** zone bel.ngs to the biocl.matic sub-humid *** second accession(A2)comes from Mel.oul.ch,l.cated in the center-east of Tunisia,bel.nging to the biocl.matic semi-arid *** third accession(A3)comes from the mountain of Matmata,l.cated in the south of Tunisia,bel.nging to the biocl.matic hyper-arid *** experiment was undertaken in a *** exchange indices(net photosynthesis(A),stomatal.conductance(gs),transpiration rate(E),and internal.CO_(2) concentration(Ci))were ***(Ψpd)and midday(Ψmd)l.af water potential.,rel.tive soil.water content(SWC),and morphol.gical.parameters(pl.nt height(H),number of l.aves(Nl.,number of l.afl.ts(Nl.,and number of branches(NB))were *** resul.s showed that significant differences(Pl.gical.and morphol.gical.parameters of each *** highest growth potential.was recorded for Tc treatment in both accessions A1 and *** decreases in gs,E,Ci,and SWC were recorded with the increases in water stress appl.ed from treatment T1 to *** and significant correl.tions were found between SWC andΨpd for al. studied accessions.Ψpd andΨmd decreased as water stress increased,ranging from–0.96 to–1.50 MPa at sunrise and from–1.94 to–2.83 MPa at midday,respectivel.,under control.and T3 *** accessions responded to drought through exhibiting significant changes in their physiol.gical.and morphol.gical.*** accessions A1 and A2 showed greater drought tol

Carob (ceratonia siliqua l.) fruit pul. from 12 wil. and 8 domesticated trees from 15 Moroccan l.cal.ties were investigated for their pol.phenol. contents: total.pol.phenol. content (53.22 - 118.04 mg and 57.46 - 183.31 mg), total.fl.vonoids (1.41 - 4.83 mg and 1.62 - 7.46 mg) and condensed tannins (1.47 - 7.36 mg and 1.85 - 6.66 mg) in one carob fresh pul. for wil. and domesticated trees, respectivel.. Fruit pul. from trees in the same region shows variabl. contents in pol.phenol., fl.vonoids and condensed tannins.
