A QoE-based cell range expansion scheme in heterogeneous cellular networks

Deploying low-power nodes(LPNs) overlaid with Macro cells is a promising strategy to improve the coverage and capacity of cellular systems. Meanwhile, cell range expansion(CRE) scheme is proposed to select a proper serving base station(BS) for users between Macro e Node Bs and LPNs, and then offloading of traffic from Macro cell is made. In this paper, first, we introduce the LPNs deployment strategy and its activation criteria in the heterogeneous system. Then, a quality of experience(Qo E)-based CRE scheme to adjust the coverage area of LPNs adaptively is proposed. Different from the existing CRE schemes, the Qo E values for different users with different services are considered when the users try to select an appropriate serving BS. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can improve cell edge user experience for various services as well as overall system performance.

Clustering-based adaptive low-power subframe configuration with load-aware offsetting in dense heterogeneous networks

Heterogeneous Networks(HetNets)and cell densification represent promising solutions for the surging data traffic demand in wireless *** dense HetNets,user traffic is steered toward the Low-Power Node(LPN)when possible to enhance the user throughput and system capacity by increasing the area spectral ***,because of the transmit power differences in different tiers of HetNets and irregular service demand,a load imbalance typically exists among different serving *** offload more traffic to LPNs and coordinate the Inter-cell Interference(ICI),Third-Generation Partnership Project(3GPP)has facilitated the development of the cell range expansion(CRE),enhanced Inter-cell Interference Coordination(eICIC)and Further enhanced ICIC(FeICIC).In this paper,we develop a cell clustering-based load-aware offsetting and an adaptive Low-Power Subframe(LPS)*** solution allows the separation of User Association(UA)functions at the User Equipment(UE)and network server such that users can make a simple cell-selection decision similar to that in the maximum Received Signal Strength(max-RSS)based UA scheme,where the network server computes the load-aware offsetting and required LPS periods based on the load conditions of the *** proposed solution is evaluated using system-level simulations wherein the results correspond to performance changes in different service *** show that our method effectively solves the offloading and interference coordination problems in dense HetNets.

Joint resource allocation with QoS provisioning in K-tier heterogeneous cellular networks

In this paper, the joint resource allocation （RA） problem with quality of service （QoS） provisioning in downlink heterogeneous cellular networks （HCN） is studied. To fully exploit the network capacity, the HCN is modeled as a K-tier cellular network where each tier＇s base stations （BSs） have different properties. However, deploying numbers of low power nodes （LPNs） which share the same frequency band with macrocell generates severe inter-cell interference. Enhancement of system capacity is restricted for inter-cell interference. Therefore, a feasible RA scheme has to be developed to fully exploit the resource efficiency. Under the constraint of inter-cell interference, we formulate the RA problem as a mixed integer programming problem. To solve the optimization problem we develop a two-stage solution. An integer subchannel assignment algorithm and Lagrangian-based power allocation algorithm are designed. In addition, the biasing factor is also considered and the caused influence on system capacity is evaluated. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms achieve a good tradeoff between network capacity and interference. Moreover, the average network efficiency is highly improved and the outage probability is also decreased.
