Effects of compression ratio on variation of stresses and residual oil of cake in pressing process of castor beans and its curve fitting

The relationships among compression ratio and stress, compression ratio and residual oil of cake in pressing process of castor beans were studied using the test equipment under different states of oilseeds and ways of pressing manners. The results show that variation of stress increases nonlinearly and residual oil rate decreases with the increase of compression ratio. Lower residual oil of cake was obtained by pressing gently and frequently. Curve fitting on both relationships had been built and parameters for the model were obtained by least square procedure and deepening research on pressing process of the castor beans for castor oil. By assuming that the value of oil production is equivalent to the value of energy consumption, the critical compression ratio of intact seeds is 6.2 while that of crushed seeds is 3.6.

Ricinus communis or castor bean is a non-edible oilseed plant widely cultivated worldwide for the high content of castor oil in its seeds and the different uses the oil has in the industry. An increase in its oil content and production efficiency is difficult, making understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the synthesis of oils in the seed necessary. Here, a combined analysis of protein-protein interaction networks was performed using public data on differential gene expression in castor bean seeds at different stages of development. From this analysis, four key enzymes were selected and analyzed in the polyunsaturated fatty acids pathways, whose gene expression was subsequently quantified during the development of the seeds in a Colombian cultivar that produces high amounts of oils and contrasted with a lower producing cultivar. The gene coding FAH12 was differentially expressed in the early stages of seed development in the high oil-producing cultivar and has differences in amino acids A242V and Q319H. The analysis presents this gene as one of those responsible for early ricinoleic acid synthesis, making it a candidate for use in crop genetic improvement programs to increase the oil content in castor bean.

Among APETALA2 (AP2)-type plant specific transcription factor family, WRINKLED1 (WRI1), has appeared to be a master gene transcriptionally regulating a set of carbon metabolism- and fatty acid synthesis (FAS)-related genes responsible for seed specific triacylglycerols (TAGs) storage in oil plants. B3 type transcription factors, such as ABI3 and FUS3, are known to be involved in seed development, such as seed storage protein synthesis and maturation. Based on the recent whole genome sequence data of castor bean (Ricinus communis L.), putative WRI1 homologs (RcWRI1, RcWRI2) specifically expressed in castor bean seed have been identified by comparing organ specific expression profiles among seed development-related transcription factors, seed storage specific genes (Ricin, RcOleosin) and a set of FAS genes including genes for sucrose synthase (RcSUS2), biotin carboxyl carrier protein (a subunit of acetyl-CoA carboxylase, RcBCCP2) and ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein synthase (RcKAS1). Immunoreactive signals with WRI1, FUS3 and ABI5-related polypeptides were also detected in seed specifically, consistent with the expression profiles of seed development-related genes. The WRI1 binding consensus sites, [CnTnG](n)(7)[CG], designated as the AW-box, were found at the promoter region of RcBCCP2 and RcKAS1. Thus, RcWRI1 possibly play a pivotal role in seed specific TAGs storage during seed development by directly activating FAS -related genes.

Fatty Acid Profile and Physico-Chemical Parameters of castor Oils in Tanzania

This paper reports on the assessment of the quality and quantity of castor oil from castor seeds collected from different regions in Tanzania. The castor seeds from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Iringa, Kagera and Morogoro regions in Tanzania were extracted by Soxhlet method using n-hexane and the oil yields were determined. The yields were 52.78%, 49.95%, 47.89%, 44.23%, 43.71% and 43.69% for Dodoma, Arusha, Iringa, Morogoro, Kagera and Dar es Salaam respectively. The physico-chemical parameters that were determined were refractive index (1.468 - 1.473), pH 5.7- 6.3, viscosity (0.943 - 0.954), specific gravity (165.50 - 187.46 mg KOH/g Oil), saponification value (76.68 - 80 mg KOH/g Oil), iodine value (76.68 - 80.12 g I2/100 g Oil), acid value (0.44 - 1.97 mg NaOH/g Oil), free fatty acid (0.22 - 0.99) and peroxide value (10.79 - 13.73). Fatty acid profile of castor oil was analysed using Shimadzu GCMS and ricinoleic acid ranged from 83.5% to 92.3% of the total fatty acids in the castor oils.

Since Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) was approved for reimbursement under the national health insurance system of Japan in January 2014. Dialysis patients are potentially susceptible to bleeding because of the fragile intestine, impaired platelet function, or oral administration of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or anticoagulants. Increasing experience with CCE different bowel preparation regimens have been used with variable results. The patient on dialysis has moisture restrictions. We experienced the case of the half a dose of the previous protocol by a method using the castor oil. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of bowel preparation with castor oil for improving the capsule excretion rate. In 23 of 24 (95.8%) patients capsule transit time and duration of capsule endoscopy were shortened. The results are presented and briefly discussed in this report.

目的探讨利用单分支覆膜支架治疗原发内膜破口位于主动脉弓远端或降主动脉的逆撕Stanford A型主动脉壁间血肿的疗效。方法回顾性分析2020年7月—2022年11月香港大学深圳医院心血管外科利用单分支支架对原发性逆撕型Stanford A型主动脉壁间血肿行腔内修复治疗10例患者的临床资料。其中男9例、女1例，年龄32～66(47±10.4)岁。所有患者为壁间血肿累及升主动脉及主动脉弓，诊断为A型壁间血肿，破口位于降主动脉。其中6例为降主动脉溃疡合并壁内血肿，4例为降主动脉夹层改变。所有患者均接受血管内支架修复，急性期手术8例（≤2周），亚急性期手术2例（15d—3个月）。结果所有患者围手术期无神经系统并发症、截瘫、支架断裂或移位、肢体或腹腔器官缺血发生，术后1例患者胸痛持续不缓解，复查发现支架近端新发破口，转为开胸行升主动脉及部分主动脉弓人工血管置换。截至最近一次随访，所有患者升主动脉、主动脉弓壁间血肿较前明显吸收或完全吸收。结论单分支支架治疗原发性逆撕型Stanford A型主动脉壁间血肿安全有效，短期效果良好。
