Fudan University Shanghairaction I Protein (F-I-P) was first found in spinach mesophyll cells by Wildman and Bonner in 1947. Then it was demonstrated that F-I-P existed wildly in plant kingdom and was a major component of soluble proteins in mesophyll calls of green plants. Finally in 1957 Dorner demonstrated that F-I-P was just the RUBP carboxylase/oxygenase. The F-I-Ps isolated from tobacco and spinach have been crystallized by Chan Chollet and Johal respectively. We have used the Chan's method with some improvements to purify and crystallize F-I-Ps from rape and tobacco.
