The secretome secreted by stem cells and bioactive material has emerged as a promising therapeutic choice for traumatic brain injury(TBI).We aimed to determine the effect of 3D-printed collagen/chitosan/secretome derived from human umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cells scaffolds(3D-CC-ST)on the injured tissue regeneration process.3D-CC-ST was performed using 3D printing technology at a low temperature(20C),and the physical properties and degeneration rate were *** utilization of low temperature contributed to a higher cytocompatibility of fabricating porous 3D architectures that provide a homogeneous distribution of *** after the establishment of the canine TBI model,3D-CC-ST and 3D-CC(3D-printed collagen/chitosan scaffolds)were implanted into the cavity of *** implantation of scaffolds,neurological examination and motor evoked potential detection were performed to analyze locomotor function *** and immunofluorescence staining were performed to evaluate *** group treated with 3D-CC-ST had good performance of behavior *** 3D-CC-ST significantly reduced the cavity area,facilitated the regeneration of nerve fibers and vessel reconstruction,and promoted endogenous neuronal differentiation and synapse formation after *** implantation of 3D-CC-ST also markedly reduced cell apoptosis and regulated the level of systemic inflammatory factors after TBI.

Effects of a bioartificial liver support system on acetaminophen induced acute liver failure canines

AIM To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the bioartificial liver support system in canines with acute liver failure (ALF). METHODS Nine canines with acute liver failure by acetaminophen induced received TECA Ⅰ bioartificial liver support system (BALSS) from Hong Kong TECA LTD Co. Blood was perfused through a hollow fiber tube containing (1 2)×10 10 the porcine hepatocytes. In contrast, another 10 canines with acute liver failure by Acetaminophen received drugs. Each treatment lasted 6 hours. RESULTS BALSS treatment resulted in beneficial effects for acetaminophen induced ALF canines with survival and with the recovery of the liver functions and tissues, and plasma ammonia decreased from 135 9μmol/L ± 17 5μmol/L to 65 7μmol/L ± 22 0μmol/L , 32 5μmol/L ± 8 8μmol/L , GPT from 97 8U/L ± 8 7U/L to 64 8U/L ± 11 9U/L , 19 0U/L ± 6 3U/L , GOT from 103 0U/L ± 16 7U/L to 75 7U/L ± 19 6U/L , 26 5U/L ± 5 0U/L , and AKP from 158 3U/L ± 12 1U/L to 114 5U/L ± 19 8U/L , 43 8U/L ± 5 6U/L during and after the treatment. In contrast, 10 ALF canines in both the drug and control groups died 1 or 2 days after treatment. CONCLUSION TECA 1 artificial liver support system is safe and efficacious for canines with acute liver failure.

The Prevalence of Impacted Maxillary canines in a Palestinian Population: A Retrospective Study

Objective: This study aims to estimate the prevalence of impacted maxillary canines using panoramic radiographs. Methods: A sample of 1321 panoramic radiographs were retrospectively examined for the presence of impacted maxillary canines. The radiographs were obtained from the records of a private dental clinic from the year 2009 till 2016. Results: The prevalence of impacted canines among the examined population (n = 1321) was found to be 1.8%. There was a significant association between gender and canine impaction (P 0.05) difference in the prevalence of right or left canine impaction was found. Conclusion: The prevalence of impacted maxillary canines (1.8%) in this study was within the range reported among other populations.

Diffusion tensor imaging reveals brain structure changes in dogs after spinal cord injury

Based on the Wallerian degeneration in the spinal cord pathways,the changes in synaptic connections,and the spinal cord-related cellular responses that alter the cellular structure of the brain,we presumed that brain diffusion tensor imaging(DTI)parameters may change after spinal cord ***,the dynamic changes in DTI parameters remain *** established a Beagle dog model of T10 spinal cord contusion and performed DTI of the injured spinal *** found dynamic changes in DTI parameters in the cerebral peduncle,posterior limb of the internal capsule,pre-and postcentral gyri of the brain within 12 weeks after spinal cord *** then performed immunohistochemistry to detect the expression of neurofilament heavy polypeptide(axonal marker),glial fibrillary acidic protein(glial cell marker),and NeuN(neuronal marker).We found that these pathological changes were consistent with DTI parameter *** findings suggest that DTI can display brain structure changes after spinal cord injury.

Oxymatrine Inhibits Bocavirus MVC Replication, Reduces Viral Gene Expression and Decreases Apoptosis Induced by Viral Infection

Oxymatrine(OMT), as the main active component of Sophoraflavescens, exhibits a variety of pharmacological properties,including anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-viral activities, and currently is extensively employed to treat viral hepatitis; however, its effects on parvovirus infection have yet to be reported. In the present study, we investigated the effects of OMT on cell viability, virus DNA replication, viral gene expression, cell cycle, and apoptosis in Walter Reed canine cells/3873 D infected with minute virus of canines(MVC). OMT, at concentrations below 4 mmol/L(no cellular toxicity), was found to inhibit MVC DNA replication and reduce viral gene expression at both mRNA and protein levels, which was associated with the inhibition of cell cycle S-phase arrest in early-stage of MVC ***, OMT significantly increased cell viability, decreased MVC-infected cell apoptosis, and reduced the expression of activated caspase 3. Our results suggest that OMT has potential application in combating parvovirus infection.

Addition of Protease Enzyme to Dog and Cat Feed and Its Influence on the Digestibility Coefficient, Immune Response, and Metabolic Biomarkers

Promoting better protein digestibility through exogenous enzymes in the diet is essential in the nutrition of companion animals, mainly for better performance and maintenance of the animals’ physiological and metabolic systems, promoting health and adequate growth. In addition, it reduces the cost of the diet by possibly reducing protein in the diet, which is the main and most expensive ingredient for dogs and cats. The objective of this study was to verify whether the addition of protease to dog and cat food can improve the protein digestibility of the food, thus facilitating greater absorption of amino acids and influencing metabolic biomarkers and immune response. To this end, two experiments were carried out to evaluate the protease from the fermentation of Aspergillus niger and Bacillus subtilis. Experiment 1 was carried out with ten male, non-castrated beagles divided into two groups of five animals: the control group (without enzyme) and the test group (with 250 g of protease/ton). The animals underwent two 45-day experimental periods, and in the second period, after a 15-day interval, the dogs in the control group became part of the treatment group (crossover model). Adding this enzyme to the dogs’ diet had no adverse effects on the animals’ health besides improving the digestibility of dry matter and crude protein consumed by the dogs. Experiment 2 was carried out with sixteen female cats of no defined breed, non-castrated, divided into four groups with four animals per group, namely: Treatment A (without enzyme), Treatment B (with protease at a dose of 100 g/ton), Treatment C (with protease at a dose of 200 g/ton) and Treatment D (with protease at a dose of 400 g/ton). The cats underwent two 30-day experimental periods, and in the second period, after a 15-day interval, the animals switched between treatments (crossover model) to increase the power of the statistical test.
