The coulomb interaction in van der Waals heterostructures

The giant Stark effect(GSE) in a set of van der Waals(vdW) heterostructures is studied using first-principles methods. A straightforward model based on quasi-Fermi levels is proposed to describe the influence of an external perpendicular electric field on both band gap and band edges. Although a general linear GSE is observed, which is induced by the almost linear variation of the band edges of each layer in the heterostructures, when vdW heterostructures is subjected to small electric fields the variation becomes nonlinear. This can be attributed to the band offsets-induced interlayer charge transfer and resulted intraand inter-layer coulomb interactions. Our work, thus offers new insight into the mechanism of the nonlinear GSE in vdW heterostructures, which is important for the applications of vdW heterostructures on nanoelectronic devices.

Theoretical–computational studies of table-top laser-driven nuclear fusion of high-energy(up to 15 MeV)deuterons with7Li,6Li,and D nuclei demonstrate the attainment of high fusion yields within a source–target reaction *** constitutes a source of coulomb-exploding deuterium nanodroplets driven by an ultraintense femtosecond near-infrared laser and a solid hollow cylindrical target containing the second *** source–target reaction design attains the highest table-top fusion efficiencies(up to 4×109J 1per laser pulse)obtained to *** highest conversion efficiency of laser energy to nuclear energy(10 2–10 3)for table-top DD fusion attained in the source–target design is comparable to that for DT fusion currently accomplished for‘big science’inertial fusion setups.

We obtain bi-component coulomb crystals using laser-cooled ^40Ca^+ ions to sympathetically cool ^9Be^+ ions in a linear Paul trap. The shell structures of the bi-component coulomb crystals are investigated. The secular motion frequencies of the two different ions are determined and compared with those in the single-component coulomb crystals. In the radial direction, the resonant motion frequencies of the two ionic species shift toward each other due to the strong motion coupling in the ion trap. In the axial direction, the motion frequency of the laser-cooled ^40Ca^+is impervious to the sympathetically cooled ^9Be^+ ions because the spatially separation of the two different ionic species leads to the weak motion coupling in the axial direction.

The symmetry and |m| partial-wave analysis for two-dimensional (2D) coulomb-scattering is investigated. As a function of energyE, the |m| partial-wave scattering amplitudef |m|(θ) is analytically continuated to the, negativeE (complexk) plane, and it is found that the bound state energy eigenvalues (E<0) are just located at the poles off |m|(θ) on the positive imaginaryk axis as is expected. In addition, as a function of |m|,f |m|(θ) is analytically continuated to the complex |m| plane, the bound state energy eigenvalues are just located at the poles off |m|(θ) on the positive real |m| axis.

The spatiotemporal evolution patterns of complete coulomb stress changes caused by 1988 Ms7.6 earthquake in Lancang-Gengma, Yunnan, are calculated and studied. And the triggering problems of Ms7.2 Gengma shock occurring 13 minutes after the main shock and of Ms5.0―6.9 aftershocks within 24 days after the main shock are discussed. The results show that the spatial distribution patterns of complete coulomb stress changes of the Ms7.6 main shock are strongly asymmetric. The areas of positive dynamic and static coulomb stress are both coincident well with the strong aftershocks' loca-tions. The Ms7.2 Gengma shock and most of strong aftershocks are subjected to the triggering effect of dynamic and static coulomb stresses induced by the Ms7.6 Lancang earthquake.

The hole-hole interaction(Ehh) has been considered in a CdTe/Cd1-x Mnx Te Semimagnetic Quantum Well Wire(SQWW). The influence of the shape of the confining potential like square well and parabolic well type on the binding energy of an acceptor impurity with two holes and their coulomb interaction between them has been studied for various impurity locations. Magnetic field has been used as a probe to understand the carrier-carrier correlation in such Quasi 1-Dimensional QWW since it alters the strength of the confining potential tremendously. In order to show the significance of the correlation between the two holes, the calculations have been done with and without including the correlation effect in the ground state wavefunction of the hyderogenic acceptor impurity and the results have been compared. The expectation value of the Hamiltonian, H, is minimized variationaly in the effective mass approximation through which(Ehh) has been obtained.

We investigate the effect of intra-dot coulomb interaction on the Andreev reflection in a normalmetal/quantum-dot/superconductor (N-QD-S) system with multiple levels in the quantum dot, in the regime where the intra-dot interacting constant is comparable to the energy gap of superconducting lead. By using nonequilibrium Green function method, the averaged occupation of electrons in the quantum dot and the Andreev reflection (AR) current are studied. Comparing to the case of non-interacting quantum dot, the system shows significant changes for the a two-step-like behavior; and the I-Vg shows two groups of peaks, separated by U and with equal heights, where Vg is the gate voltage and U denotes the intra-dot coulomb interaction constant. (ii) For finite bias voltage, dips, superposed V ≥ U/2, extra AR current peaks occur between the two groups of the peaks. Besides, the properties of the heights of the AR current peaks are more complicated.

Residue coulomb Interaction Among Isobars and Its Influence in Symmetry Energy of Neutron-Rich Fragment

The residue coulomb interaction(RCI), which affects the result of symmetry-energy coefficient of neutronrich nucleus in isobaric yield ratio(IYR) method, is difficult to be determined. Four RCI approximations are investigated:(i) The M1–RCI adopting the ac/T(the ratio of coulomb energy coefficient to temperature) determined from the IYR of mirror-nucleus fragments;(ii) The M2–RCI by fitting the difference between IYRs;(iii) The M3–RCI adopting the standard coulomb energy at a temperature T = 2 Me V; and(iv) Neglecting the RCI among isobars. The M1–, M2– and M3–RCI are no larger than 0.4. In particular, the M2–RCI is very close to zero. The effects of RCI in asym/T of fragment are also studied. The M1– and M4–asym/T are found to be the lower and upper limitations of asym/T, respectively. The M2–asym/T overlaps the M4–asym/T, which indicates that the M2–RCI is negligible in the IYR method, and the RCI among the three isobars can be neglected. The relative consistent low values of M3–asym/T(7.5 ± 2.5) are found in very neutron-rich isobars.

The impacts of remote coulomb scattering(RCS)on hole mobility in ultra-thin body silicon-on-insulator(UTB SOI)p-MOSFETs at cryogenic temperatures are *** physical models including phonon scattering,surface roughness scattering,and remote coulomb scatterings are considered,and the results are verified by the experimental results at different temperatures for both bulk(from 300 K to 30 K)and UTB SOI(300 K and 25 K)*** impacts of the interfacial trap charges at both front and bottom interfaces on the hole mobility are mainly evaluated for the UTB SOI p-MOSFETs at liquid helium temperature(4.2 K).The results reveal that as the temperature decreases,the RCS due to the interfacial trap charges plays an important role in the hole mobility.
