Hydrogels composed of poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) and poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) were synthesized using glutaraldehyde as crosslinker and investigated for controlled delivery of the common anti-inflammatory drug, ibuprofen(IBF). To regulate the drug delivery, solid inclusion complexes(ICs) of IBF in β–cyclodextrin(β–CD) were prepared and added to the hydrogels. The ICs were prepared by the microwave irradiation method, which is more environmentally benign. The formation of IC was confirmed by various analytical techniques and the synthesized hydrogels were also characterized. controlled release of drug was achieved from the hydrogels containing the ICs in comparison to the rapid release from hydrogels containing free *** preliminary kinetic analysis emphasized the crucial role of β–CD in the drug release process that influences the polymer relaxation, thereby leading to prolonged release. The cytotoxicity assay validated the hydrogels as non-toxic in nature and hence can be utilized for controlled delivery of IBF.

We describe a new method of fabricating a brush-like polystyrene layer anchored on the surface of the silicon substrate, which involves three steps, namely (i) the attachment of 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane onto the silicon surface; (ii) the reaction of vinyl moiety at another extremity of the anchored 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane to 4-Hydroxyl-2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy (HTEMPO?) catalyzed by azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN); (iii) living free radical grafting polymerization of styrene in the presence of HTEMPO?. The controllable living free radical polymerization permits accurate control of both the molecular weight and the polydispersity. X-photoelectron spectroscopy measurement proved that the alkoxyamine initiator layer forms on the silicon surface. XPS and Ellipsometry measurements showed that the poly-styrene chains were covalently anchored onto the silicon surface. The thickness of the grafted polymer layer can be accurately manipulated by altering the polymerization time. The new method allows synthesizing random copolymer and block copolymers by the sequential growth of monomers from the substrate surface.

We propose a new scheme for controlled quantum teleportation with Bell states in which classical keys for controllers＇ portion are used. We also discuss the security of the proposed scheme and show that it can satisfy the requirements for controlled quantum teleportation. The comparison between this scheme and the previous ones shows that it is more economical and efficient.

A series of inorganic-organic thin films based on uniformly dispersed nanoparticles of polyoxometalates （POM）entrapped in polyacrylamide （PAM） matrix were prepared by ultrasonic method with different irradiation *** microstructure, photochromic behavior and mechanism of the films were studied by transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, ultraviolet-visible spectra （UV-VIS） and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR）.The microstructure and photochromic properties of the hybrid thin films could be controlled by *** image revealed that the average size of phosphotungstic acid （PWA） nanoparticles decreased from 20 to 10 nm with the ultrasound irradiation time from 30 to 60 min. After irradiated with ultraviolet light,the transparent films changed from colorless to blue and showed reversible photochromism. The hybrid film, with ultrasound irradiation for 60 min had higher photochromic efficiency and faster bleaching reaction than the one with ultrasound irradiation for 30 min. FT-IR spectra showed that the Keggin geometry of heteropolyoxometalate was still preserved inside the composites, and the interactions between polyanions and polymer matrix increased as the ultrasound time prolonged. It is suggested that the mechanism of the different photochromic properties for the inorganic-organic thin films is the variation of the microstructure and interfacial interactions induced by ultrasound.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety in patients with chronic heart failure(CHF) of Western medication plus Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) ***: This prospective, single-blind, randomized, controlled, and multicenter clinical trial began on September 17, 2008, and was completed on June 25, 2011. A total of 340 inpatients, aged 40-79 years, with exacerbating CHF from 10 hospitals were enrolled and randomly allocated within 24 h of admission. The trial included three intervention periods. During hospitalization, the control group received western medication for CHF and the treatment group received Danhong injection with Shenfu injection or Shenmai injection. After discharge,all patients were treated with Qiliqiangxin capsules and Buyiqiangxin tablets or a placebo for 6 months. After the 6-month intervention, both groups received only continuous western medication. The primary endpoint was all-cause *** efficacy assessments were as follows: B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP), Lee's HF score, the 6-minute walking test(6 MWT), left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF), and the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire(MLHFQ). The safety assessments were as follows: blood and urine routine examination, hepatic and renal function, electrolytes in blood and adverse ***: Compared with the control group, the treatment group showed a 30.99% reduction in all-cause mortality and an improved survival *** treatment group showed greater improvement in 6 MWT(P = 0.02) than the control group on discharge, after 12-month follow-up, there was a time-group interaction for MLHFQ(P = 0.03). Incidence rate of adverse events and other relevant safety indexes were not statistically significant between the two ***: Western medication plus TCM treatment can increase 6-minute walking distance(improve exercise tolerance) and quality of life with heart failure patients.

Two-dimensional layered materials have attracted significant interest for their potential applications in electronic and optoelectronics devices. Among them, transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs), especially molybdenum disulfide(MoS_2), is extensively studied because of its unique properties. Monolayer MoS_2 so far can be obtained by mechanical exfoliation or chemical vapor deposition(CVD). However, controllable synthesis of large area monolayer MoS_2 with high quality needs to be improved and their growth mechanism requires more studies. Here we report a systematical study on controlled synthesis of high-quality monolayer MoS_2 single crystals using low pressure CVD. Large-size monolayer MoS_2 triangles with an edge length up to 405 μm were successfully synthesized. The Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy studies indicate high homogenous optical characteristic of the synthesized monolayer MoS_2 triangles. The transmission electron microscopy results demonstrate that monolayer MoS_2 triangles are single crystals. The back-gated field effect transistors(FETs) fabricated using the as-grown monolayer MoS_2 show typical n-type semiconductor behaviors with carrier mobility up to 21.8 cm^2 V^(-1) s^(-1), indicating excellent electronic property comparing with previously reported CVD grown MoS_2 monolayer. The MoS_2 FETs also show a high photoresponsivity of 7 A W^(-1), as well as a fast photo-response time of 20 ms. The improved synthesis method recommended here, which makes material preparation much easier, may strongly promote further research and potential applications.

Due to their heat/cool storage characteristics, thermostatically controlled loads(TCLs) play an important role in demand response programmers. However, the modeling of the heat/cool storage characteristic of large numbers of TCLs is not simple. In this paper, the heat exchange power is adopted to calculate the power instead of the average power, and the relationship between the heat exchange power and energy storage is considered to develop an equivalent storage model, based on which the time-varying power constraints and the energy storage constraints are developed to establish the overall day-ahead schedulingmodel. Finally, the proposed scheduling method is verified using the simulation results of a six-bus system.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effectiveness of traditional Chinese herbal Xinglouchengqi(XLCQ)decoction for the treatment of constipation in acute ischemic stroke patients,and figure out the role that bowel movements play in the treatment of acute ischemic ***:A total of 317 eligible patients were recruited and randomized to the XLCQ group(211 patients)or the control group(106 patients).In addition to conventional standard medical care and rehabilitation,participants in the XLCQ group received XLCQ decoction,while the control group received clysis therapy using glycerin enemas or lactulose oral *** groups were given treatment for 3 to 6 d,during which they received daily visits to record defecation features and accompanying *** assessments using the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS)were conducted before and 1 month after ***:Patients in the XLCQ group had lower aggregate constipation scores compared with the control group on days 3 and 5(P<0.05).Spontaneous bowel movements tended to reappear more rapidly after taking the XLCQ decoction than after conventional laxative *** the average aggregate constipation score and the time taken to achieve spontaneous bowel movements showed positive correlations with NIHSS scores before and1 month after treatment(P<0.01).CONCLUSION:Treatment with XLCQ decoction effectively alleviated the overall symptoms of constipation in acute ischemic stroke *** status of bowel movements in acute ischemic stroke can reflect the severity of neurological impairment and predict neurological outcomes at 1 month.
