In recent years, low-valent metal-mediated catalysis using earth-abundant first-row transition metals such as nickel, iron, and cobalt has attracted immense attention, and the approach appears to constitute a cost-effective tool for the catalytic cleavage of inert chemical bonds. In contrast, the synthetic chemistry of low-valent group 6 metal chromium catalysis has remained underdeveloped, and the relative reactivity, catalytic behavior and mechanism of this metal have been largely *** group focuses on studying the unique catalytic properties of group 6 metal chromium in cross-coupling and hydrogenation *** discovered that the use of low-cost, commercially available chromium salts as precatalyst combined with organomagnesium reagent or metallic magnesium as reductants allowed the formation of low-valent chromium species, which was shown appealing ability in the catalytic cleavage of unactivated chemical bonds, including c–o, c–N and c–H bonds to achieve regioselective Kumada-Tamao-currie reactions and cross-electrophile coupling reaction between c–o/c–o or c–o/c–N bonds. In addition, the reactivity of chromium in catalytic hydrogenation of arenes and heteroarenes has also been examined.
