BACKGROUND The needs for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER-2) and/or programmed death-ligand 1(PD-L1) evaluations in gastric cancer are dramatically increasing. Although the importance of standardization of sample fixation has been widely recognized, most of the evidence regarding the fixation duration or type of fixing solution are based on breast *** To investigate the real effects of fixation conditions on HER-2 testing or PD-L1 testing for gastric cancer using gastrectomy *** Thirty-two patients who underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer were *** resected specimens were each divided into four pieces and fixed in four strictly controlled different durations(6 h, 24 h, and 48 h, and 1 wk) by 10%formalin(n = 22) or 10% neutral buffered formalin(NBF)(n = 10).Immunohistochemistry(IHC) of HER-2 and PD-1 was performed, and a pathology examination was conducted. In the HER-2-immunoreactive cases, all four specimens were subjected to dual-color in situ hybridization(DISH). Five cases were assessed as HER-2-positive by IHC and DISH. We used the cut-off values of 1%, 10%, and 50% to assess the IHC findings of *** No significant difference was observed in comparisons between the shorter fixation period groups(6 h, 24 h, and 48 h) and the prolonged fixation period(1 wk) group in the HER-2 and PD-L1 analyses. Although no significant difference was observed between 10% formalin and 10% NBF within 1 wk of fixation, the superiority of 10% NBF was confirmed in a long-term(> 3 mo) fixation in both the HER-2 and PD-L1 *** In this small-numbered pilot study, prolonged fixation within 1 wk showed no inferiority in HER-2 or PD-L1 testing. However, a large-numbered prospective study is needed to obtain conclusive results.

This paper presents a third-order quadrature sinusoidal oscillator (TOQSO) using two voltage differencing buffered amplifiers (VDBAs), three capacitors and a resistor. The new topology provides two quadrature voltage outputs. The condition of oscillation (CO) and frequency of oscillation (FO) are electronically independently controllable by the separate transconductance of the VDBAs. The workability of the proposed TOQSO is confirmed by SPICE (Version 16.5) simulation using Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company (TSMC) 0.18 μm process parameters.

In this communication, a new single-resistance controlled sinusoidal oscillator (SRCO) has been presented. The presented SRCO uses two voltage differencing inverting buffered amplifiers (VDIBAs), one resistor and two capacitors in which one is grounded (GC) and the other one is floating (FC). The proposed structure offers the following advantageous features: 1) independent control of oscillation condition (OC) and oscillation frequency (OF);2) low passive and active sensitivities and 3) very good frequency stability. The non-ideal effects of the VDIBA on the proposed oscillator have also been investigated. The proposed SRCO has been tested for its robustness using Monte-Carlo simulations. The check of the validity of the presented SRCO has been established by SPICE simulations using 0.18 μm TSMC technology.

A new voltage-mode quadrature sinusoidal oscillator (QSO) using two voltage differencing-differential input buffered amplifiers (VD-DIBAs) and only three passive components (two capacitors and a resistor) is presented. The proposed QSO circuit offers advantages of independent electronic control of both oscillation frequency and condition of oscillation, availability of two quadrature voltage outputs and low active and passive sensitivities. SPICE simulation results have been included using 0.35 μm MIETEC technology to confirm the validity of the proposed QSO oscillator.

The degradation properties of the MPs is important to the long-term benefits of the use of the chitosan (CS) based hybrid MPs in bone tissue-engineering, because the degradation kinetics could affect a multitude of processes within the cell, such as cell growth, tissue regeneration, and host response. The aim of this study was to investigate the degradation of solid, hybrid CS microparticles (MPs), CS-10% calcium phosphate (CaHPO4, w/w), and CS-10% calcium carbonate (CaCO3, w/w) MPs in phosphate buffered solution (PBS) over a 30-week period. The hybrid MPs were synthesized by emulsification technique, cross-linked with 64% sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP), purified and air dried overnight. Each sample had 30 mg of MPs was placed in a glass vial with 9 ml of PBS added and then the vial was closed to prevent evaporation. Every week 4 ml of the incubated solution was removed for sample measurement and all samples were replaced with an equivalent amount of fresh medium. The samples were maintained at 37oC under continuous shaking. The hybrid MPs were measured for pH and calcium release, every week in triplicate. At 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 weeks, surface and bulk morphology were analyzed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The degradation data suggested that the hybrid MPs were stable at least up to 25 week and maintain the physiologically relevant pH. Therefore, we can use these hybrid MPs to apply in the bone tissue engineering applications since they do not degrade within a short period.

The realization of some new selective filters using single current differencing buffered amplifier (CDBA) and few RC components is presented. The same topology provides lowpass (LP), bandpass (BP) and highpass (HP) characteristics with appropriate choice and location of the RC components in the circuit. Incorporation of a suitable feedback loop through a voltage buffer unity-gain cell yields a tunable sinusoid oscillator. Effects of the device port mismatch errors (ε) and parasitic z-node capacitance (Cz) of the CDBA element are shown to be insignificant and corresponding sensitivities are extremely low. Satisfactory experimental verifications of the filter quality (Q) and oscillator tuning range (500 KHz ≤ fo ≤ 5 MHz) are carried out.

Surface hydrophilicity is considered to have a strong influence on the biological reactions of bone-substituting materials. However, the influence of a hydrophilic surface on osteoconductivity is not completely clear, especially for superhydrophilic surfaces. In this study, we conferred superhydrophilic properties on anodized TiO2 coatings using a hydrothermal treatment, and developed a method to maintain this surface until implantation. The osteoconductivity of these coatings was evaluated with in vivo tests. A hydrothermal treatment made the surface of as-anodized samples more hydrophilic, up to a water contact angle of 13 (deg.). Storage in both air and distilled water increased the water contact angle after several days because of the adsorption of hydrocarbon. However, storage in phosphate buffered solution led to a reduction in the water contact angle, because of the adsorption of the inorganic ions in the solution, and the sample retained its high hydrophilicity for a long time. As the water contact angle decreased, the hard tissue formation ratio increased continuously up to 58%, which was about four times higher than the hard tissue formation ratio on as-polished Ti.

In this manuscript we present a current mode biquad using one dual output-voltage differencing buffered amplifier (DO-VDBA) and four passive components (2 grounded capacitors and 2 resistors). The proposed circuit offers very low active and passive sensitivity. The filter presented here is electronically tunable, frequency of oscillation (FO) can be tuned by controlling transconductance (gm) by varying the bias current (IB) of the circuit. The workability of proposed circuit is tested using PSPICE with 180 nm TSMC CMOS process parameters.
