The Shu Road is an important part of the Silk Road.As the transfer station for connecting the Maritime Silk Road with the Overland Silk Road and the starting point of the Southwestern Silk Road,Shu Yuandu Dao Route(Sichuan-India Road)-the predecessor of the Southwestern Silk Road,was the cultural exchange passage for China and its overseas neighbors before the opening of the famous Overland Silk Road.According to many archaeological findings and materials,Buddhism was introduced into the Central Plains along the Silk Road during the first century BC.Meanwhile,it was introduced into Bashu(the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding areas)along the Southwest Silk Road during the Eastern Han Dynasty(25-220)and was integrated into local cultures,which lead to the creation of the brilliant Buddhist culture and arts.

The Character and Modalities of the Relationship Between Imperial Power and Buddhism in Early Medieval China

This article summarizes the characteristics of the relationship between imperial power and Buddhism in Medieval China: firstly, the relationship between the imperial power and Buddhism was generally peaceful and harmonious;tensions and conflicts between the two were only temporary. Whenever serious conflicts arose between the imperial power and Buddhism, the relationship was always quickly repaired. Secondly, the imperial power was always dominant in the relationship between the two. Thirdly, in this relationship, Sinified Buddhism,with a strong tendency to engage with the secular world, often took the initiative to harmonize and improve its relationship with the imperial power.

This article examines regulations of Tibetan Buddhism locally and nationwide,especially focusing on regulations pertinent to Tibetan lamas/monks.Based on fieldwork and studies of contemporary materials,the article demonstrates regulations of Tibetan Buddhism in contemporary China derive from two religious management systems:the state management system of religion and the monastic management system.Then it discusses the intersection of these regulations of Tibetan Buddhism in China,and it argues further that the changing balance between state power and religion throughout the intersectional regulations in practice,despite the religion under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

隋唐时期是中国历史上内外环境都最为宽松的时期，当时主要的社会思潮有侠、儒、佛、道四种，其间互有消长，对当时的社会审美风尚产生了重要影响。任侠精神的盛行，造成了盛唐时期以意气功业、侠肝义胆和放荡不羁为美；儒家的影响集中体现在中唐以前对“风骨”的普遍提倡和运用，唐人诗歌理论上的“兴寄”说、散文理论上的“明道”说、五彩缤纷的人工美以及新乐府运动，都体现着儒家的务实精神；道家对自然之美的推崇，使“清水出芙蓉，天然去雕饰”和追求真态真情之美成为盛唐诗人的审美风尚；中唐时期以幽寒瘦硬为美，以疏朗淡雅为美，这与道家思潮的影响以及禅宗的崛起不无关系；禅宗思想的影响所及，则体现在晚唐时期的以意境韵味为美和以含蓄蕴藉为美。像以禅喻诗，追求禅境禅趣，追求“不着一字，尽得风流”等，都分明显现着禅学的痕迹。

山东滕州汉画像石馆藏有一块疑似早期佛教内容的汉画像石。本文通过对其图像志的分析，结合山东地区其他汉画像材料，并将其放置在汉代佛教初传中国的视野中，将其初步定为“胡人礼佛”题材的汉画像石。这一图像与同时期犍陀罗美术中“梵天劝请”佛传故事图像形成可供对比研究的序列，代表了早期佛教与中国本土神仙信仰和儒家信仰在鲁南地区的碰撞和融合，对研究早期佛教艺术在中国的发展具有重要意义。
