BACKGROUND Postoperative ileus is a frequent postoperative complication,especially after abdominal *** excitation is the primary factor for postoperative *** activation becomes increased by surgical stress,postoperative pain,and ***(DEX)can inhibit sympathetic nerve activity,inflammation,and *** To observe whether DEX promotes bowel movements in patients after laparoscopic *** One hundred and twenty patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy were assigned to three groups:C(normal saline infusion),D1(DEX 0.02μg/kg/h),and D2(DEX 0.04μg/kg/h).The primary outcomes were the recorded times to first flatus,defecation,and eating after *** secondary outcomes were postoperative pain,assessed using the numerical rating scale(NRS),adverse effects,and the duration of the postoperative hospital *** The times to first flatus,defecation,and eating in groups D1 and D2 were significantly shorter than those in group C(P0.05).CONCLUSION Postoperative infusion of DEX at 0.04μg/kg/h facilitates bowel movements in patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy.

This study is aimed to evaluate the effect of lollipop sucking on the recovery of gastrointestinal function in children after congenital choledochal cyst excision.58 children who had undergone congenital choledochal cyst excision were randomly divided into two groups:the controlled group and the experimental *** in the experimental group were allowed to suck on strawberry lollipops for 20e30 min once every four hours beginning six hours after the *** recovery time of bowel sounds and anal defecation was recorded and compared between experimental and control *** with the controlled group the recovery times of bowel sounds(41.75±7.38 h vs.51.43±5.02;pbowel movement and relieves postoperative abdominal distension.

Effects of a Food Supplement with a Wild Thyme (Thymus serpyllum L.) Extract on Gut Health and the Microbiome in Humans: A Randomized, Double-Blinded, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial

Background: Based on the scientific and traditional knowledge, benefits for gut and digestive health were expected from Wild Thyme (Thymus serpyllum L.) extract (WThE) consumption, but no controlled human studies were performed yet to prove the proposed health benefits. Method: The aim of this human randomized, double-blind parallel arm pilot study was to explore the impact of aqueous Wild Thyme extract, a food supplement, in a healthy but overweight study collective (N = 40). In detail, the impact on digestion, gastrointestinal symptoms, gut microbiome, and quality of life by employing an essential oil-free WThE preparation or a matching placebo was investigated. Results: The study results indicate that WThE has the potential to improve gastrointestinal symptoms and increase stool frequency, thus an improved quality of life was observed. The stool microbiome of study collective was characterized by a high Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio. A decrease in the mean Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio was seen in WThE group. Conclusion: The data support the potential applications of WThE as a food supplement with benefits on gut health.
