Carotenoids are important nutrients with antioxidative properties. serum albumin is the most abundant protein in blood plasma and serves as a depot and transport protein for numerous endogenous and exogenous compounds. Association of carotenoids with proteins may involve redistribution of electrons in the conjugated double bonds of the carotenoids. Such perturbation of electrons may affect the configuration of the carotenoids and the structure of the protein. The ease of oxidation of the carotenoids will accordingly also be affected. The effects on the oxidative stability of β-carotene(β-Car) when associated to bovine serum albumin(BSA) were studied by combining relevant spectroscopic methods with continued wave and time resolved photochemical techniques. Binding to BSA was found to protect β-Car efficiently against photobleaching. Transient absorption spectroscopy confirmed less bleaching of β-Car on the μs timescale in the presence of BSA, while kinetics of triplet-state β-Car was unaffected by presence of oxygen. The protection of β-Car against this type of reaction seems accordingly to depend on dissipation of excitation energy from an excited state into the protein matrix. Quenching of tryptophan(Trp) fluorescence by β-Car suggests involvement of Trp in binding of β-Car to BSA through hydrophobic interaction, and it may be the β-Car aggregates rather than monomer which quench the fluorescence by static process. Bound β-Car increased the random coil fraction of BSA at the expense of α-helix, affecting the β-Car configuration.

Interaction Between Gatifloxacin and bovine serum albumin

Aim To study the reaction mechanism between gatifloxacin and bovine serumalbumin (BSA) at different pHs. Methods Fluorescence spectra and UV absorbance spectra were *** The binding constants were determined from a double reciprocal Lineweaver-Burk curves atdifferent pHs. The binding distance r under normal physiological condition was obtained according toFoster theory of non-radiative energy transfer. The binding force between gatifloxacin and BSA wasinferred by thermody-namical coordination. Conclusion The interaction between gatifloxacin and BSAseems to be strong and the main binding force is electrostatic force.

Study on the binding of novel antitumor drug Ethaselen to bovine serum albumin

The binding pattern of Ethaselen to bovine serum albumin （BSA） was studied by fluorescence spectroscopic technique and Autodock 3.0.5 analysis. The result showed that the binding constant K of Ethaselen and BSA is 3.5×10^4L/mol and the number of binding sites n = 0.9. The binding between Ethaselen and BSA or human serum albumin （HSA） is mainly through hydrophobic interactions.

Effects of PEG Molecular Weight on Its Interaction with albumin

The fluorescence property of bovine serum albumin was investigated in the presence of PEGs of different molecular weights. Based on our results, we propose that PEGs of different molecular weights bind to albumin in the pH 7.4 aqueous solution, but only when the polymer size is larger than the protein size, one polymer chain may bind to multiple proteins and cause the proteins to aggregate.
