Objective: To develop an on line system for the measurement of blood viscosity and hematocrit. The dynamic changes of the macrovascular blood volumes, microvascular blood volumes and the total blood volume were observed by means of calculating from the testing result. Methods: Applying traditional viscosity measurement principle and specific wavelength optic density measurement method, an on line system for the measurement of blood viscosity and hematocrit was developed, and the A/D multifunctional board and the testing circuit were designed by ourselves. The system was validated by experiments both in vitro and in vivo. Therapeutic effects of hypertonic saline dextran solution (HSD) and Lactatic Ringers solution at the early stage after burn blast combined injury were compared by this method. Results: The results showed that the system has attained the goal of the design. The changes of the blood viscosity and hematocrit could be detected effectively and continuously. The changes of macrovascular, microvascular and total blood volume could be calculated approximately. Conclusions: The system and the method can continuously on line test the blood viscosity and hematocrit, and reveal the change and distribution of blood volumes more accurately and clearly in the therapy process by estimatng changes of the macrovascular, microvascular and total blood volumes, respectively. It has confirmed that HSD treatment could increase blood pressure and attenuate tissue edema by significantly increasing total blood volume, improving macrocirculatory and microcirculatory blood volumes. This study suggested that it could be desirable to develop an experiment technique based on the method mentioned above.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate relative regional blood volume (rCBV) in meningioma and compare the utility of reconstruction using both gradient-echo sequence and echo-planar-imaging (EPI) *** patients with meningiomas were studied on a Siemens 1.5-T scanner. During the gradient-echo sequence (n=12) and EPI sequence (n=6), a bolus ^(0.2 mmol/kg) of Gd-DTPA was injected mechanically with a flow rate of 5 ml/second. Image processing of dynamic data was performed on a pixel-by-pixel basis. The ratio of tumor rCBV/gray matter rCBV was 3.01±1.18 (3.07 ± 1.39 in gradient sequence and 2.84 ± 0.94 in EPI sequence). The ratio of gray matter/ white matter as the reference tissue had a mean of 2.79 ± 0.76 using the FLASH sequence, and a mean of 3.04 ± 1.31 using EPI. These differences were not statistically signifcant (P>0.5, t-test). According to the ratio of tumor rCBV/gray matter rCBV, a mean value, 14.5 ml/100 g, of rCBV in meningiomas was calculated. Compared with gray matter, increased inhomogeneous rCBV was observed in meningioma. Based on the two different sequences, no bias can be observed in our rCBV reconstruction.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome(POTS)is a disabling condition characterized by orthostatic intolerance with tachycardia in the absence of drop-in blood pressure.A custom-built near-infrared spectroscopy device(NIRS)is applied to monitor the muscle oxygenation,noninvasively in patients undergoing incremental head-up tilt table(HUT).Subjects(6 POTS patients and 6 healthy controls)underwent 30 mins of 70on a *** results showed a signicant difference in deoxyhemoglobin(Hb),change-in-oxygenation(△Oxy)and blood volume(△BV)between patients and healthy ***,oxyhemoglobin(HbO_(2))showed a significantly faster rate of change in the healthy controls during the first 10 mins of the tilt and during the *** NIRS muscle oximetry tool provides quantitative measurements of blood oxygenation monitoring in diseases such as POTS.

BACKGROUND:Liver cirrhosis causes peculiar systemic hemodynamics,and accurate evaluation of systemic hemodynamic state is important for cirrhotic recipients who underwent living donor liver transplantation(LDLT). We investigated the clinical advantages of a novel non- invasive method for measuring systemic hemodynamic parameters using indocyanine green(ICG). METHODS:Twenty-eight LDLT recipients were evaluated. Simultaneous measurements of cardiac output(CO)using Swan-Ganz catheters and pulse dye densitometry(PDD) were performed every 12 hours after LDLT.A total of 155 sets of simultaneous CO measurements were obtained. RESULTS:The CO values obtained by PDD correlated well with those obtained by the invasive catheter *** addition,none of the recipients developed any side-effects, and we verified the safety of repeated ICG *** is safe,even for repeated use over time in the same recipient. Moreover,PDD can measure the blood volume(BV).CONCLUSIONS:Since the cirrhotic systemic hemody- namics characterized by high CO and large BV remains, even after LDLT,the ability to measure CO and BV in a non-invasive,simple and real-time manner using PDD has advantages for cirrhotic LDLT recipients.

Background:Red-cell transfusion is critical for surgery during the peri-operative period;however,the transfusion threshold remains controversial mainly owing to the diversity among *** patient’s medical status should be evaluated before making a transfusion ***,we developed an individualized transfusion strategy using the West-China-Liu’s Score based on the physiology of oxygen delivery/consumption balance and designed an open-label,multicenter,randomized clinical trial to verify whether it reduced red cell requirement as compared with that associated with restrictive and liberal strategies safely and effectively,providing valid evidence for peri-operative ***:Patients aged>14 years undergoing elective non-cardiac surgery with estimated blood loss>1000 mL or 20%blood volume and hemoglobin concentrationblood cells(superiority test)and a composite of in-hospital complications and all-cause mortality by day 30(non-inferiority test).Results:We enrolled 1182 patients:379,419,and 384 received individualized,restrictive,and liberal strategies,*** 30.6%(116/379)of patients in the individualized strategy received a red-cell transfusion,less than 62.5%(262/419)in the restrictive strategy(absolute risk difference,31.92%;97.5%confidence interval[CI]:24.42-39.42%;odds ratio,3.78%;97.5%CI:2.70-5.30%;P<0.001),and 89.8%(345/384)in the liberal strategy(absolute risk difference,59.24%;97.5%CI:52.91-65.57%;odds ratio,20.06;97.5%CI:12.74-31.57;P<0.001).No statistically significant differences were found in the composite of in-hospital complications and mortality by day 30 among the three ***:The individualized red-cell transfusion stra

Clinical assessment of fluid volume status in children during malaria can be taxing and often inaccurate. During malaria, changes in fluid volume are rather multifarious and estimating this parameter, especially in sick children is very challenging for clinicians who frequently rely on indices such as long capillary refill times, tachycardia, central venous pressure and decreased urine volume as guides. Here, we present the UHAS-MIDA, an open-source software tool that calculates the red blood cell (RBC) concentration and blood volume during malaria in children determined using a stable isotope of chromium (53Cr as the label) by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in selective ion monitoring (GC/MS-SIM) analysis. A key component involves the determination of the compositions of the most abundant naturally occurring isotopes of Cr (50Cr, 52Cr, 53Cr), and converting the proportions into a 3 × 3 matrix. To estimate unknown proportions of chromium isotopic mixtures from the measured abundances of three ions, an inverse matrix was calculated. The inverse together with several inputs is then used to calculate the corrected MS ion abundances. Thus, we constructed the software tool UHAS- MIDA using HTML, CSS/Bootstrap, JavaScript, and PHP scripting languages. The tool enables the user to efficiently determine RBC concentration and fluid volume. Aim Using animals as object of experiment to acquire various patterns of low cerebral blood pressure and reduced blood capacity in cerebral tissues of astronauts due to the load of acceleration. Methods The isotope tracking technique was applied to mark the blood and record the dynamic curves of cerebral blood flow changes under various accelerations, and the relevant mathematical model was set up using the method of system recognition. Also the method of factor analyzing was used to select two out of the data collected by eight sensors as two factors. Results One of the two factors reflects the various patterns in the astronaut's upper body, the other for the lower body. Parameters of rise time, delay time and steady value reflect the results under different acceleration. Conclusion Whether for the upper body or the lower body, blood flow changes can be considered as a second order system model. This method provides a new technique and method of doing research on astronaut's endurance of acceleration and selecting astronauts.
