Performance Analysis of Hybrid FSO/RF Transmission Assisted Airborne Free-Space Optical Communication System

This paper investigates the reliability problem of airborne free-space optical(FSO)communications,and a hybrid FSO/radio frequency(RF)communication system with parallel transmission is proposed,where the data stream is transmitted over both FSO and RF links ***,to combat channel fading,maximal ratio combining is utilized at the receiver for combining received signals from both *** performances of the proposed system are analytically derived in terms of the outage probability and the average bite-error rate(BER).Numerical results show that the proposed hybrid FSO/RF system with parallel transmission outperforms a single airborne FSO or a single RF link,which provides technical guidance for designing reliable high-speed airborne communication systems.

Channel capacity and digital modulation schemes in correlated Weibull fading channels with nonidentical statistics

The novel closed-form expressions for the average channel capacity of dual selection diversity is presented, as well as, the bit-error rate （BER） of several coherent and noncoherent digital modulation schemes in the correlated Weibull fading channels with nonidentical statisticS. The results are expressed in terms of Meijer＇s Gfunction, which can be easily evaluated numerically. The simulation results are presented to validate the proposed theoretical analysis and to examine the effects of the fading severity on the concerned quantities.

Space-Time Block Coding （STBC） is a powerful transmit diversity scheme for Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output （MIMO） antennas systems. The M-ary phase-shift keying （MPSK） performance of STBC scheme is analyzed with the MIMO system in independent and quasi-static flat Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper, we present the bit-error rate （BER） of STBC system with Chernoff upper bound and also mathematic BER expression for system performance evaluation. Compared with Monte-Carlo simulation results [1,3,4], our theoretical results are confident and more important.
