Gliomas and melanomas are associated with dismal prognosis because of their marked intrinsic resistance to proapoptotic stimuli,such as conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy,as well as their ability to escape immune cell *** addition,gliomas and melanomas display pronounced ***-1 is a hypoxia-sensitive protein,which is abundantly secreted by glioma and melanoma cells,which displays marked proangiogenic *** also provides immune tolerogenic environments to melanoma and glioma cells through the killing of activated T cells that attack these tumor ***-1 protects glioma and melanoma cells against cytotoxic insults(including chemotherapy and radiotherapy) through a direct role in the unfolded protein ***,these facts clearly point to galectin-1 as an important target to be combated in gliomas and melanomas in order to:(1) weaken the defenses of these two types of cancers against radiotherapy,chemotherapy and immunotherapy/vaccine therapy;and(2) reinforce antiangiogenic *** the present article,we review the biochemical and molecular biology-related pathways controlled by galectin-1,which are actually beneficial for melanoma and glioma cells,and therefore detrimental for melanoma and glioma patients.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of different concentrations of garlic (Allium sativum L.) extract in fish diet on survival rate, digestive enzymes and some biochemical parameters of Mugil cephalus larvae. Three hundred and sixty fish with mean weight 0.45 g were randomly divided into equal four groups;each one contained 3 replicates. Fish was fed with diets containing 0% (control), 0.5%, 1% and 3% concentrations of garlic extract (GE) in diet. 30 days after feeding, survival rate, different biochemical (larvae extract total protein, albumin, globulin, glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride) parameters and digestive enzyme activity (lipase, protease and amylase) were evaluated. There was a significant increase in survival rate of all groups fed with GE as compared to the control diet (P < 0.05). The administration of A. sativum in all levels significantly decreased (P < 0.05) the content of cholesterol, triglyceride and glucose in larvae extract. Also total protein, albumin and globulin levels had significantly increased in all groups fed GE (P < 0.05). The highest total protein (2.13 ± 0.12 g/dL), albumin (0.37 ± 0 g/dL), globulin (1.76 ± 0.12 g/dL), amylase (9.25 ± 0.14 U/mg protein), protease (4.20 ± 0.08 U/mg protein) and lipase (2.62 ± 0.14 U/mg protein) and the lowest serum triglyceride (22.78 ± 0.20 mg/dL), glucose (8.76 ± 0.09 mg/dL), cholesterol (3.69 ± 0.07 mg/dL) levels were observed in fish fed 3% GE in diet. Garlic inclusion in fish diet at 3% concentration is therefore beneficial for use in aquaculture to improve the general health and digestive enzyme activity of M. cephalus larvae.

The demand of grape in Bangladesh is fulfilled through import from foreign countries. The fruits of local cultivars of grapes are sour and seeded. Development of seedless grape varieties having increased sweetness, higher yield with better nutritional quality is necessary to reduce the import dependency. The present research activities are the part of a grape improvement project. A pot experiment was conducted at the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh, during June to November 2011 to determine the suitable gamma irradiation doses on growth, leaf area and biochemical characters of grape saplings. Three vegetative bud stages viz. bud initiation stage, 4-leaf stage and 8-leaf stage, and four doses of gamma irradiation viz. 0, 5, 10, and 15 Gy were used as treatments. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications. Different irradiation doses and vegetative bud stages showed significant variations in respect of plant growth characters, leaf area, soluble protein and total sugar content. Interaction effects also had significant variations on most of the parameters studied. Higher doses of gamma irradiation had showed detrimental effect on grape saplings. Generally, increased in irradiation doses showed decreased and detrimental effects on most of the parameters under study. Maximum numbers and length of roots, total dry matter, leaf area and chlorophyll-a and chlorophyll-b content were found at 5 Gy irradiation dose. Total soluble protein and sugar content of leaf were found maximum at no irradiation and 15 Gy, respectively. Higher number of roots and length, total dry matter, leaf area, chlorophyll-a, and b and soluble protein content of leaf were observed at bud initiation stage while 8-leaf stage showed maximum total sugar of leaf. In the combined effect of gamma irradiation and vegetative bud stages, all parameters showed best results in 5 Gy with bud initiation stage except total sugar content of

[Objective]The paper was to investigate the effects of dietary concentrate to forage ratios on production performance and serum bio-chemical indicators of post-fattening Hainan Yellow Cattle.[Method]Sixteen Hainan Yellow Cattles with the same genetic backgrounds and similar initial weight of(242.22 ±0.71 kg) were randomly divided into four *** were fed with diets of different concentrate to forage ratios(20:80, group Ⅰ;30:70, Group Ⅱ;40:60, group Ⅲ;50:50, group Ⅳ).The trial lasted 62 d.[Result]The daily gain in experimental group Ⅳ was significantly higher than that in experimental group Ⅱ(P0.05).The feed intake in experimental group Ⅳ was also markedly higher than those in experimental groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ(P<0.05).Compared with the experimental group Ⅱ, the gross profit of experimental group Ⅳ was significantly promoted(P<0.05).The alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase activities in experimental group Ⅱ were markedly higher than those in experimental groups Ⅰ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ.[Conclusion]When the dietary concentrate to forage ratios was 50∶50, the production performance of post-fattening Hainan Yellow Cattle was better.

One of the methods used in practice for the purification of wastewater from vegetable-processing enterprises is biological method of aerobic purification. With the aim to increase air-tank capacity used in traditional systems of biochemical purification of wastewater, different ways effecting to the process of vital activity of microorganisms of active sludge are applied. On the one hand, using the compositions of different salts and complex organic biogenous supplements prevents from the accumulation of some anions in the amounts exceeding the limited concentration, on the other hand- allows different groups of microorganisms to choose biogenous elements, which they assimilate easily and fully. It is known, that compounds of silicon and germanium can cause stimulating effects [1] to the organisms of active sludge. The goal of present studies is the intensification of biological processes of oxidation of organic contamination in wastewater by new bio-degradable chemical compounds or compositions on their basis, and by bio-sorbents.

Objective: To investigate the alteration of biochemical parameters during Plasmodium berghei ANKA (P. berghei ANKA) infection in mice. Methods: Male BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally inoculated with 1 × 107 parasitized erythrocytes of P. berghei ANKA. Parasitemia was daily monitored by microscopy of Giemsa stained thin blood smear. Additionally, packed cell volume (PCV) and biochemical parameters including glucose, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), albumin, and bilirubin levels were also measured using Cobas 111 automate analyzer. Results: Parasitemia was increased during P. berghei ANKA infection until the infected mice died within 2 weeks, and early and late infections were separated by Days 4 and 10, respectively. At early infection, it was found that hemolysis occurred as indicated by markedly decreased PCV. Hypoglycemia and acute kidney injury were also developed at the early infection as indicated by decrease in blood glucose and increase in BUN and creatinine levels. Moreover, the loss of liver function was observed at the late infection as indicated by markedly increased enzyme activities of AST, ALT, and ALP, and decreased albumin level. Additionally, bilirubin level was also increased. Conclusions: The finding reveals the pathological condition during P. berghei ANKA infection in mice. The hemolysis and acute kidney injury were developed at the early infection, and loss of liver function then occurred at the late infection. Hence, the prevention of these pathological conditions during malaria infection is urgently needed.

Objective:To investigate the correlation of sex hormones with adipocytokines and bone metabolism biochemical indexes in women with menopausal ***: A total of 118 female patients who were diagnosed with menopausal osteoporosis in the West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University between September 2015 and October 2017 were selected as menopausal osteoporosis group, and 100 menopausal women with normal bone density who received medical examination in the West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University during the same period were selected as normal control group. The contents of sex hormones, adipocytokines and bone metabolism biochemical indexes in peripheral blood were compared between two groups of women, and Pearson test was used to evaluate the correlation between sex hormones and disease severity in women with menopausal ***: E2 content in the peripheral blood of menopausal osteoporosis group was significantly lower than that of control group whereas FSH and LH contents were not significantly different from those of control group;Resistin and chemerin contents in peripheral blood were higher than those of control group whereas LEP and Visfatin contents were lower than those of control group;OC, NBAP, TRACP and ICTP contents in peripheral blood were significantly higher than those of control group. Pearson test showed that the sex hormone E2 content in women with menopausal osteoporosis was directly correlated with the contents of adipocytokines and bone metabolism biochemical ***: The sex hormone expression is abnormal in women with menopausal osteoporosis, and the specific abnormal level can objectively reflect the condition of osteoporosis.
