Entropy description of measured information in mathematical and physical inverse problems

There are two types of inverse problems: Optimization designation and parameter identification. Before the parameter identification of mathematical and physical inverse problems, it is necessary to determine the number and position of measurement points in analysis and evaluation of a large number of measured data. In this paper, a mathematical methodology is proposed to describe the influence of the number and position of measurement points on the reconstruction precision. Information entropy and bayesian theory are used in the description. Finally, a numerical experiment shows that the methodology is effective.

The exploitation of industrial strains of chickens in the Sahelian climate of Niger is characterized by a decline in performance and significant costs associated with their maintenance. In contrast, local chickens are well adapted to these environmental conditions but with poor production performance. Genetic selection of these local chickens could improve their productivity. The first step is to determine if the genetic parameters of their growth are high enough to ensure a successful selection strategy. To do so, weekly weights of 69 parents and 119 offspring were followed for 20 weeks. The heritability and genetic correlations of these weights were estimated through the bayesian approach using the MCMCglmm package on R software. At hatching, weights ranged from 23 to 25 g. At 20 weeks, these weights ranged from 1031 to 1052 g for females and 1308 to 1445 g for males. Heritabilities for hatch weights at 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 weeks of age were estimated to be 0.56, 0.31, 0.52, 0.53, 0.52 and 0.48 respectively and all genetic correlations were positive. In particular, weight at 8 weeks of age showed both good heritability (h2 = 0.52) and strong, positive genetic correlations with weights at older ages. These results indicate that genetic selection to improve weight at 8 weeks of age would be a good strategy to improve the overall growth performance of these chickens.

A bayesian network (BN) model was developed to predict susceptibility to PWD(Pine Wilt Disease). The distribution of PWD was identified using QuickBird and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images taken at different times. Seven factors that influence the distribution of PWD were extracted from the QuickBird images and were used as the independent variables. The results showed that the BN model predicted PWD with high accuracy. In a sensitivity analysis, elevation (EL), the normal differential vegetation index (NDVI), the distance to settlements (DS) and the distance to roads (DR) were strongly associated with PWD prevalence, and slope (SL) exhibited the weakest association with PWD prevalence. The study showed that BN is an effective tool for modeling PWD prevalence and quantifying the impact of various factors.

This paper develops the bayesian empirical likelihood (BEL) method and the BEL vari-able selection for linear regression models with censored data.Empirical likelihood is a multivariate analysis tool that has been widely applietl to many fieltls such as biomed-ical and social sciences.By introducing two special priors to the empirical likelihood function,we find two obvious superiorities of the BEL methods,that is (i) more precise coverage probabilities of the BEL credible region and (ii) higher accuracy and correct identification rate of the BEL model selection using an hierarchical bayesian models vs.some current methods such as the LASSO,A LASSO and SCAD.The numerical simu-lations and empirical analysis of two data examples show strong competitiveness of the proposed method.

Detecting deterministic dynamics of cardiac rhythm

Under the acceptable hypothesis that cardiac rhythm is an approximately deterministic process with a small scale noise component, an available way is provided to construct a model that can reflect its prominent dynamics of the deterministic component. When applied to the analysis of 19 heart rate data sets, three main findings are stated. The obtained model can reflect prominent dynamics of the deterministic component of cardiac rhythm; cardiac chaos is stated in a reliable way; dynamical noise plays an important role in the generation of complex cardiac rhythm.

Learning User Intention in Networked Mobile Robot Control

Teleoperated networked robot often has unpredictable behaviors due to uncertain time delay from data transmission over Internet. The robot cannot accomplish the desired actions of the remote operator in time, which severely impairs reliability and efficiency of the robot system. This paper investigated a novel approach, learning user intention, to compensate the uncertain time delay with the autonomy of a mobile robot. The user intention to control and operate the robot was modeled and incrementally inferred based on bayesian techniques so that the desired actions could be recognized and completed by the robot autonomously. Thus the networked robot is able to fulfill the task assigned without frequent interaction with the user, which decreases data transmission and improves the efficiency of the whole system. Experimental results show the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.
