A Preliminary Study on the Effect Evaluation of Electroacupuncture Combined with balloon dilation in the Treatment of Dysphagia after Cerebral Infarction

Objective: Dysphagia is a frequent symptom caused by cerebral infarction. This study investigated the effect evaluation and safety of electroacupuncture combined with balloon dilatation on dysphagia after cerebral infarction. Methods: Totally 100 patients with dysphagia after cerebral infarction were enrolled as study subjects and assigned into the control group (treated with balloon dilatation) and the observation group (treated with electroacupuncture and balloon dilatation), with 50 cases in each group. The general data of participants were recorded. Before or after treatment, swallowing function was assessed by water swallow test, standardized swallowing function assessment (SSA), videofluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS), and functional oral intake scale (FOIS). The cerebral hemodynamics, serological indicators, neurological impairment, quality of life (QOL) score were analyzed. Additionally, the occurrence of complications and adverse reactions after treatment was assessed. Results: There was no significant difference in gender, age, BMI, course of disease, and grade of dysphagia between the two groups. balloon dilatation alone and electroacupuncture combined with balloon dilatation decreased the water swallow test, SSA, and VFSS scores, increased FOIS score, and improved the swallowing function, cerebral hemodynamic parameters, serological indicators, neurological function and QOL, with the better efficacy in the combined therapy. Moreover, combined therapy had lower incidences of complications and adverse reactions than balloon dilatation therapy alone. Conclusion: Electroacupuncture intervention combined with balloon dilatation therapy ameliorates swallowing function, cerebral hemodynamics, serological indicators, neurological function and QOL, and reduces complications and adverse reactions in dysphagia after cerebral infarction.

Effect of Endoscopic balloon dilation Treatment on the Quality of the Life in Patients with Common Bile Duct Stones

Objective To evaluate the effect of endoscopic balloon dilation treatment on the quality of life (QOL) in patients with common bile duct stones . Method EBD of the sphincter of Oddi and removal of the stones by balloon , basket and mechanical lithotripcy were performed in 47 patients with common bile duct stones .The QOL of the patients before and after the treatment was scaled . Result The success rate of EBD for the treatment of common bile duct stones was 91.5％(43/47) in our group . The scales of QOL in 89.3％of patients after treatment were significant higher than before (p<0.05). Conclusion EBD for the treatment of common bile duct stones are possible ,effective and safe .

Endoscopic management of difficult common bile duct stones:Where are we now?A comprehensive review

Endoscopic management for difficult common bile duct(CBD)stones still presents a challenge for several reasons,including anatomic anomalies,patients’individual conditions and stone *** recent years,variable methods have emerged that have attributed to higher stone removal success rates,reduced cost and lower adverse *** this review,we outline a stepwise approach in CBD stone *** first line therapy,endoscopic sphincterotomy and large balloon dilation are recommended,due to a 30%-50%reduction of the use of mechanical *** the other hand,cholangioscopy-assisted lithotripsy has been increasingly reported as an effective and safe alternative technique to mechanical lithotripsy but remains to be reserved in special settings due to limited large-scale *** discussed,findings suggest that management needs to be tailored to the patient’s characteristics and anatomical ***,we evaluate the management of CBD stones in various surgical altered anatomy(Billroth II,Roux-en-Y and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass).Moreover,we could conclude that cholangioscopy-assisted lithotripsy needs to be evaluated for primary use,rather than following a failed management *** addition,we discuss the importance of dissecting other techniques,such as the primary use of interventional endoscopic ultrasound for the management of CBD stones when other techniques have *** conclusion,we recognize that endoscopic sphincterotomy and large balloon dilation,mechanical lithotripsy and intraductal lithotripsy substantiate an indication to the management of difficult CBD stones,but emerging techniques are in rapid evolution with encouraging results.
