Trends in oxycodone and oxycodone-containing analgesics administration for back pain in emergency departments in the USA(2007–2018)

backGROUND:To describe trends in oxycodone and oxycodone-containing analgesic prescribing for the treatment of back pain among adults in emergency departments(EDs) in the USA from 2007 to ***:Data were gathered from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey(NHAMCS) from 2007 to *** study population included individuals of all ages presenting to USA *** NHAMCS reasons for visit and oxycodone drug ID codes were used to isolate patients with back *** main outcome was the proportion of oxycodone and oxycodone-containing analgesics prescribed for back pain in the EDs over the specified time ***:There was a relative decrease in the overall administration of oxycodone for back pain in the EDs by 62.3% from 2007(244,000 visits) to 2018(92,000 visits).The proportion of ED patients prescribed with oxycodone-containing analgesics for back pain increased among patients aged 45 years and older(from 43.8% to 57.6%),female patients(from 54.5% to 62.0%),black patients(from 22.5% to 30.4%),and Hispanic/Latino patients(from 9.4% to 19.6%).Oxycodone/acetaminophen was most prescribed and accounted for 90.2% of all oxycodone-containing analgesics in 2007,with a decrease to 68.5% in *** oxycodone was the second most prescribed medication,accounting for 6.1% in 2007 and 31.5% in ***:The overall number of oxycodone-containing analgesics decreased significantly from 2007 to ***,that number trended upward in 45-year-old and older,female,black,or Hispanic/Latino patients from 2007 to *** total amount of pure oxycodone increased significantly from 2007 to 2008.

Prevalence and Associated Factors of back pain among Medical Students in Sudan

background: back pain affects old and young adults, and it is a common complain among medical students. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of back pain and associated factors among medical students in Sudan. Method: An observational multi-universal cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2021 to February 2022, involving 433 medical students selected by simple random sampling. Data were collected by electronic Google Form questionnaire designed to assess demographic features, back pain characteristics, and triggering factors. Data analysis was done by statistical package for social sciences. Result: The prevalence of back pain among medical students in Sudan is 69.3%, with a statistically insignificant difference between preclinical and clinical students (p value: 0.378), and between male and female students (p value: 0.826). The lower back is the commonest site of pain (75%). The majority of the students experience moderate pain (53.9%). They did not use medications (81%). Sitting for long hours is the most common trigger (87.9%) and the pain did not interfere with the daily activities (71%). Conclusion: back pain is a common complain among medical students in Sudan. Medical schools should raise the awareness of the students about back pain.

Does the Breast Size in Females Correlate with the Severity of Mechanical Low back pain?

background: Large breast is postulated to cause undue tension in the paraspinal muscles and may result in back pain. Improved pain score following mammaplasty supports this assertion. Such a question has not been evaluated in an indigenous black population. Objectives: To assess the correlation between the breast cup size and the severity of low back pain among women with mechanical low back pain. Method: This was a prospective cohort study. Eighty-four women with chronic backpain attending the Orthopaedic clinic participated excluding psychogenic back pain. The breast cup sizes were estimated from the difference between the bust and band sizes measured with an inelastic tape. The severity of pain was determined with the Oswestry disability index (ODI) data analysed with IBM SPSS version 26. Results: The mean age was 49.35 years. The predominant breast cup size was A, (88%), while the largest cup size was C. The mean duration of symptoms and ODI score was 3.33 months (SD = 2.63), and 42.30 (SD = 16.98) respectively. The breast cup size did not show a positive correlation with ODI score, r = ?0.021, p = 0.846. Conclusion: The severity of mechanical low back pain does not correlate with the breast cup size.

The systematic reviews(SRs) including a meta-analysis are considered as the top level of *** the existence of more than a hundred of low back pain(LBP)-related SRs seems very appealing and might therefore suggest significant evidence on the topic,adeep analysis indicates that several of these SRs included only very few *** SRs raise concerns because they included some randomized controlled trials which had a low methodological quality,or some studies which differed significantly regarding the studied populations and/or the experimental *** sometimes controversial results of different SRs conducted on the same topic also highlight the significant influence of the inclusion/exclusion criteria used in the SRs to select the *** conclude,although meta-analysis is at the top of the evidence pyramid and have several strengths,the conclusions drawn from SRs should always be interpreted with caution because they can also have *** is true,whether it be for LBP-related SRs including a meta-analysis,or any *** a critical analysis of any SR is always needed before integrating the results of the SR in its own clinical ***,clinical reasoning remains crucial,especially to consider the potential differences between one's patient and the patients included in the meta-analysis.

back pain limits activity and is the second most frequent reason for physician visits. The conventional approach to treatment of back pain due to disc protrusion is often limited. Acupuncture has been used as a prophylactic and therapeutic medical tool in China for thousands of years, and is now proving valuable in modern medical practice as an effective therapy for musculoskeletal problems, including back pain.Objective: The paper focuses on clinical practice in mastering the performance of acupuncture treatment, especially for back pain due to disc protrusion and to complete the integrative medicine.Methods: The acupuncture treatment used to treat the 2 cases of back pain due to disc protrusion, based on the good techniques and skill of acupuncture as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to completeness the comprehensive treatment. All of 2 cases had significant sciatic pain, and 1 of the 2 presented with a numbness complaint at the toe and ventral side of the right foot. Lesions were well demonstrated on CT Scan or MRI examination and were proved to be disc protrusion. Instruments: The stainless steel of disposable filiform needles (Hwatou?) with length 50 mm and diameter 0.30 mm;The Acupuncture Electronic Treatment Instrument (Hwato? SDZ-II);The Special Electromagnetic Wave Therapeutic Apparatus (TDP). Acupoints selected: Shenshu (BL 23), Weizhong (BL 40), Yaoyangguan (DU 3), Ashi Points, Huantiao (GB 30), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Chengshan (BL 57), Kunlun (BL 60), Yaoyan (EX-B 7), Ciliao (BL32), Dachangshu (BL 25) and Jiaji (EX-B 2). Needling Performance: Disinfection the hands of the Acupuncturist and the area of the patient selected for needling;The patient in prone position and than do needling to the selection of acupoints;Selecting and needling the acupoints based on patient complain and condition;After the needles are inserted and obtained needling sensation (the arrival of Qi, or Deqi in Chinese), the basic manipulations used to stimulate the acup

backGROUND Percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP)is an effective method for the treatment of neurologically intact Kümmell’s disease,but bone cement leakage during surgery is a problem that deserves *** To reduce bone cement leakage and evaluate the effect of the sequential infusion of bone cement during PVP for the treatment of stage I or II Kümmell’s *** Patients with Kümmell’s disease treated in our hospital from September 2015 to September 2018 were retrospectively *** meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria were divided into two groups:Traditional single infusion and sequential infusion(SI).The visual analog scale(VAS)and Oswestry disability index(ODI)were evaluated and compared,and duration of operation,bone cement content and complications were *** Forty-five patients were included in this study;there were 24 in the traditional single infusion group and 21 in the SI *** VAS and ODI were significantly different for both groups when compared pre-and postoperatively,whereas the differences between 1 wk postoperatively and at the final follow-up were not *** the VAS and ODI of the two groups were compared,there were no significant differences at any time *** leakage rate of bone cement was significantly lower in the SI group(14.3%,3 of 21)than that in the traditional single infusion group(41.7%,10 of 24).CONCLUSION SI in unipedicular PVP is a safe and effective procedure for neurologically intact Kümmell’s disease,and this technique could decrease the incidence of bone cement leakage.

Symptomatic Tarlov cyst and electroacupuncture: more studies required

Tarlov cysts, which develop between the endoneurium and perineurium, are perineural cysts that are defined as cerebrospinal fluid （CSF）-filled saccular lesions commonly located in the extradural space of the sacral spinal canall. They are rare, showing up in 1.5% to 4.6% of patients receiving magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） for their lumbosacral symptoms, and only 1% or less of Tarlov cysts are considered to be symptomatic.

It's one of the earliest medical techniques to relieve pain, restore health and enjoy comfort with manipulations. Knowledge on spinal neck pain, shoulder pain, low back pain and leg pain can be traced back to the early stage of human evolution and upright position of two legs. Therefore the history of treating spinal diseases with Tuina or manipulations probably keeps the same pace with civilization.
