Beyond authorship: Analyzing contributions in PLOS ONE and the challenges of appropriate attribution

authorship in a scientific publication is an indicator of significant intellectual contribution in scientific *** of the discipline,it is important for research-related personnel to receive credit and take responsibility for their *** are currently several systems of listing authorship that arise from many factors such as research complexity,pressure to obtain funding,hierarchical structure,and *** of these may unfortunately lead to authorship *** awareness and understanding of authorship guidelines can help prevent abuses and *** Science and Technology Development Agency(NSTDA)is a national research agency of Thailand with about 2000 research staff *** research emphasis of the agency is mainly technology development for application in broad areas,ranging from engineering to medicine,including forensic *** conducted a survey to identify the level of awareness of NSTDA research staff and their authorship practices.A questionnaire was designed based on the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors(ICMJE)authorship guidelines and used to survey 15%of randomly selected NSTDA research *** 90%of them responded to the *** the respondents,60%were not sure about authorship *** presented with the ICMJE criteria,more than 90%agreed with the criteria except for the third one,approval of the final manuscript before submission,33%of respondents thought that authors are only responsible for their particular ***,nearly 80%agreed that every author is responsible for the integrity of the whole *** results offered an important foundation for forming a strategy to raise awareness about authorship in *** survey analysis,we organized several seminars and developed learning materials and an authorship guideline to increase the level of awareness of authorship for researchers.

However,their arguments are either groundless or implausible. This article aimsat restoring the authorship to Montesquieu mainly by demonstrating thatthey had misinterpreted Huang, Montesquieu, and their relation; theywere unfamiliar with the Chinese language; and their arguments on theasterisks in the writing at issue lacked substantial evidence.

As editors of general medical journals, we recog-nize that the publication of clinical-research find-ings in respected peer-reviewed journals is the ul-timate basis for most treatment decisions. Publicdiscourse about this published evidence of efficacyand safety rests on the assumption that clinical-tri-als data have been gathered and are presented inan objective and dispassionate manner. This dis-course is vital to the scientific practice of medicinebecause it shapes treatment decisions made byphysicians and drives public and private healthcare policy. We are concerned that the current in-tellectual environment in which some clinical re-search is conceived, study participants are recrui-ted, and the data analyzed and reported (or notreported) may threaten this precious objectivity.

电子游戏行业迅速发展，成为继印刷文字、电影、电视等之后的又一重要叙事媒介。随着媒介平台的更新发展，经典叙事学理论面对新型文本，亟待进行理论范式的更新。以电子游戏叙事中的作者为主题，运用叙事伦理方法论述游戏叙事中作者与玩家两个主体在叙事中的作用，可做如下探讨：首先探讨叙事学范式的发展以及将游戏纳入叙事研究的必要性；进而具体分析游戏作品中体现出的“作者已死”的假象，此时的作者作为虚构世界的创作者，在游戏中隐藏于算法背后而非“已死”；最后阐明作者在隐身的同时对玩家及作品具有控制力，作者通过给予玩家被控制的自由，在游戏叙事中去而复归。

Objective:The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the gender breakdown of first authorship contributing to the most-cited papers in the field of otolaryngology,with a goal of identifying trends in gender representation in ***:The top 150 most-cited papers were identified using the Science Citation Index of the Institute for Scientific *** the first authors,gender,h-index,percentage of first,last,and corresponding authorship positions,total publications,and citations were ***:The majority of papers were in the English language,from the United States,of clinical nature,and on otologic ***-one percent of papers(n=122)had men who were first authors,although there was no difference inh-index score,authorship position,number of publications,citations,and average citations/year between men and women first *** subgroup analysis by decade(1950s-2010s),there was no difference in the number of articles by women first authors(P=0.11);however,there was a statistically significant increase in the percentage of women authors(P=0.001)in papers published later compared to those published ***:While a promising number of women otolaryngologists are publishing high-powered articles,future initiatives to promote academic inclusivity of women should be considered.

A Tale of Two Tempests

The Tempest （1623） provides an acknowledged major context for Milton＇s Masque （1634）. Though few has seen The Tempest as significant to Paradise Regained （1671）, Milton＇s brief epic extensively shares in this intertextuality Arguing this, the author will focus on how the poem engages with his reformist masque＇s interrogation of Prospero＇s cultural authority, especially as an author figure. Where Paradise Regained does not parallel this critique, it extends it. This, the author will conclude, indicates Milton＇s strong sense that many of his hopes for the function of literature had been realized rather than disrupted during the Restoration. If his poem does not explicitly comment on Restoration politics, it is because Milton＇s primary political-cultural argument has been achieved. Milton＇s emphatically contemporary public voice enacts the argument of his poem, advancing God＇s renovation of the human race, a renovation that predetermines a nation＇s politics. Instead of suffering from the cultural alienation that is often assigned to the Restoration, Milton, the poet, was more unsettled by the dangers of his art being subverted by those who, as Satan attempts with Jesus＇ work in the brief epic, participate and even sponsor, its success

Applying clustering coefficient to the pattern of international author collaboration in neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation

Aim: To apply cluster coefficient (CC) to the pattern of international author collaborations in neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation using data from Medline and to visualize results using Google maps and social network analysis (SNA). Methods: Selecting 2799 abstracts, author names, countries, and keywords on January 22, 2018 from Medline based on keyword neuroimmunology (or neuroinflammation) within the article title since 1982, we reported following features: (1) nation distribution for the 1st author's nationality;(2) eminent journals and authors in the field of neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation;(3) notable keywords defined by authors representing both neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation;and (4) CCs in networks. We programmed Microsoft Excel VBA routines to extract data from Medline and used Google Maps and SNA Pajek software to display graphical representations with an easy-to-read feature for readers. Results: We found that: (1) the most number of papers in neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation are from the USA (902, 32.23%) and China (363, 12.97%);(2) the productive journals and authors in neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation are J Neuroinflammation and PLoS One, and Michael T. Heneka (Germany) and Richard M. Ransohoff (USA);(3) the most linked keywords are interleukin (IL), IL-1beta, and blood brain barrier;(4) author networks present higher CC than those nation networks. Conclusion: SNA provides wide and deep insight into the relationships among nations in co-author collaboration. The results can help readers in future submission to a journal in neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation.
