Introduction: Uterine fibroids are the most common gynecological tumors in women of childbearing age and have multiple clinical manifestations. Objective: To determine factors associated with uterine fibroids in the Borgou department of Benin in 2022. Method: Descriptive, analytical cross-sectional study from August 22 to September 22, 2022. The sample consisted of women consulting for gynecological problems in 6 hospitals in the Borgou department in the North of Benin. Results: Of the 744 women surveyed, 10.1% were diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Women with uterine fibroids were often married, paucigesture, and nulliparous. Their main reasons for consultation were the desire for motherhood (50.7%), pelvic pain (46.7%), and genital hemorrhage (14.7%). Age, history of miscarriage, high blood pressure, and diabetes were significantly associated with the presence of uterine fibroids (Conclusion: Uterine fibroids are common in hospitals in northern Benin. There were factors associated with them that should be taken into account in management strategies.

Scale and associated factors of Using Pyrethroid-Impregnated Mosquito Nets as Fishing Tools on Nokoué Lake within Sô-Ava Municipality in Benin, 2020

Background: In lacustrine communities, whether in Benin or elsewhere, populations use impregnated mosquito nets (IMNs) as fishing nets. This depletes the lake of its fishery resources, which in turn are contaminated by the pyrethroids impregnated in the nets. This study aims to determine the scale and factors associated with the use of pyrethroid-impregnated mosquito nets as fishing tools in the municipality of Sô-Ava in Benin. Methods: This is a cross-sectional and analytical study with two components. First, a quantitative component was made up of 280 volunteers who were interviewed in the seven districts of the city. Data collection was done in two phases: the first from September to October 2020, and the second in August 2022. Data were analyzed with Stata and logistic regression was used. Another qualitative component was made up of forty participants chosen by reasoned choice, of which 32 were split into four focus groups of eight members each, and the rest participated in semi-structured interviews. Triangulation of the different sources was used to analyze the data. Results: Around 67% of the population reported using impregnated mosquito nets as fishing tools and 33% exclusively for malaria. Seasonal fishermen (ORa = 2.03, CI = 1.35 - 4.97, P = 0.004) and years of professional experience (ORa = 1.53, CI = 1.00 - 2.05, P = 0.021) increase the risk of using these nets as fishing tools. The use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets against mosquitoes causes skin scratching and impairs breathing because of the impregnation products, as reported by respondents. Conclusion: A high prevalence of inappropriate use of impregnated mosquito nets in fishing practices is highlighted in this study. Interviews in the field revealed that nets are diverted for fishing purposes to increase the volume of catches. Consequently, it will be appropriate to assess the pyrethroid content in water and fishery products.

associated factors with Prolonged Stay in Pediatric Observation Ward of Urban University Hospital in Thailand

Background: Pediatric observation ward (OW) is the area where the patient can be monitored or have early investigation/management and observe part of emergency department (ED);patients are admitted to this area with an expectation of discharge within 24 hours. Observation ward was beneficial in preventing avoidable hospitalizations, due to the high volume of patients in ED, OW increasing demands, overcrowding, and prolonged stay. Objective: This study aimed to examine the characteristics and factors associated with prolonged length of stay (LOS) more than 24 hours in the pediatric observation ward. General demographic data were recorded including age, sex, LOS, diagnosis and disposition. Results: This is a retrospective study of children 15 years old or younger who admit to Pediatric OW at urban university hospital and prolonged stay more than 24 hours during January 2014 to June 2015. There were 670 patients admitted at OW during the study period (median age of 5 years;53% were male). Mean length of stay in OW was 61 hours. The most common top 5 diagnoses were respiratory problem (32%), gastrointestinal problem (29%), infectious disease (11%), neurological (7%), and dental problem (6%). The majority of patients were discharge home 602/670 cases (90%), and 10% (68/670 cases) were admitted to inpatient ward. There were 552 patients (82%) who had prolonged OW more than 24 hours. Compared with the factors in both group, we found that the associated factor for prolonged OW stay was the age of patient, which seems to be younger in the prolonged stay group (median age of 4 years 3 months vs 3 years 5 months, p = 0.04). Post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer rate in the era of highdefinition colonoscopy

AIM To investigate the post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer(PCCRC) rate for high-definition(HD) colonoscopy compared with that for standard-definition colonoscopy reported *** Using medical records at Sano Hospital(SH) and Dokkyo Medical University Koshigaya Hospital(DMUKH), we retrospectively obtained data on consecutive patients diagnosed as having CRC between January 2010 andDecember 2015. The definition of PCCRC was diagnosis of CRC between 7 and 36 mo after initial high-definition colonoscopy that had detected no cancer, and patients were divided into a PCCRC group and a non-PCCRC group. The primary outcome was the rate of PCCRC for HD colonoscopy. The secondary outcomes were factors associated with PCCRC and possible reason for occurrence of early and advanced *** Among 892 CRC patients, 11 were diagnosed as having PCCRC and 881 had non-PCCRC. The PCCRC rate was 1.7%(8/471) at SH and 0.7%(3/421) at DMUKH. In comparison with the non-PCCRC group, the PCCRC group had a significantly higher preponderance of smaller tumors(39 mm vs 19 mm, P = 0.002), a shallower invasion depth(T1 rate, 25.4% vs 63.6%, P = 0.01), a non-polypoid macroscopic appearance(39.0% vs 85.7%, P = 0.02) and an earlier stage(59.7% vs 90.9%, P = 0.03). Possible reasons for PCCRC were "missed or new" in 9 patients(82%), "incomplete resection" in 1(9%), and "inadequate examination'" in 1(9%). Among 9 "missed or new" PCCRC, the leading cause was non-polypoid shape for early PCCRC and blinded location for advanced *** The PCCRC rate for HD colonoscopy was 0.7%-1.7%, being lower than that for standard-definition colonoscopy(1.8%-9.0%) reported previously employing the same methodology.
