The asmari formation deposited in the Zagros foreland basin during the ***,the asmari formation consists of limestone,dolomitic limestone,dolomite,argillaceous limestone,some anhydrite （Kalhur Member） and sandstones （Ahwaz Member）.This study is based on the analysis of core samples from four subsurface sections （wells Mn-68,Mn-281,Mn-292 and Mn-312） in the Marun Oilfieid in the Dezful embayment subzone in order to infer their provenance and tectonic setting of the Ahwaz Sandstone *** data reveal that the Ahwaz Sandstone comprises 97.5% quartz,1.6% feldspar,and 0.9% rock fragments and all samples are classified as quartz *** provenance and tectonic setting of the Ahwaz Sandstone have been assessed using integrated petrographic and geochemical *** analysis reveals that mono-and poly-crystalline quartz grains from metamorphic and igneous rocks of a craton interior setting were the dominant ***,major and trace element concentrations in the rocks of the Ahwaz Sandstone indicate deposition in a passive continental margin *** indicated by the CIW index （chemical index of weathering） of the Ahwaz Sandstone （average value of 82） their source area underwent ＂intense＂ recycling but ＂moderate to high＂ degree of chemical *** petrography and geochemistry results are consistent with a tropical,humid climate and low-relief highlands.

The Oligo-Miocene asmari formation is one of the most important hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Middle *** oilfield under study is one of the largest oilfields in the Zagros basin with the asmari formation being the major reservoir *** this study,petrographic analyses,petrophysical data and neural network clustering techniques were used for identifying rock types in the asmari *** analysis of the asmari formation in the study area has resulted in the definition of 1 clastic lithofacies and 14 carbonate microfacies *** petrophysical logs from 43 wells and their correlation with capillary pressure(Pc)curves,led to the recognition of 7 electrofacies(EF1-EF7).Microscopic evidence of Electrofacies group C1 and S1 show that the sedimentary facies of these electrofacies are most commonly found in restricted and shoal facies belts ***,petrographic studies show that the sedimentary facies of C2,C3,C4,S2 and S3 were formed in the open marine,Lagoon,and Tidal flat facies belt zone of homoclinal ramp sedimentary environment during the Oligo-Miocene based on relative sea level changes *** link between electrofacies and geological data indicated that both sedimentary and diagenetic processes controlled the reservoir quality of the asmari ***,permeability and water saturation were used to estimate the reservoir quality of each *** 1 and 2 with high porosity and permeability,low water saturation is considered as the best reservoir with regard to sedimentary textures(dolowackestone and dolograinstone)and the effect of diagenetic processes such as dolomitization ***,growth framework and interparticle porosities are major in EF-2,while the intercrystalline porosity is the major type in *** 3 and 4 show low values of porosity,permeability and high percentage of water saturations,which characterizes them as poor reservoir ***,EF-5 is the only electrofacies in the siliciclastic parts of

Outcrop and microscopic studies have been applied in this research paper in order to find out the asmari formation depositional sequences in the Shajabil Anticline section located at the north of the Izeh Zone,Zagros Basin,*** depositional sequences were identified based on 11 facies types （bioclast Nummulitidae Lepidocyclinidae packstone,bioclast perforate foraminifera Nephrolepidina Miogypsinoides wackestone-packstone,bioclast perforate foraminifera Corallinacea wackestone-packstone,bioclast echinoid Neorotalia Brachiopoda wackestone-packstone,coral floatstone-rudstone,bioclast Corallinacea imperforate foraminifera wackestone-packstone,bioclast imperforate foraminifera Archaias wackestone-packstone,bioclast imperforate foraminifera Dendritina wackestone-packstone-grainstone,bioclast imperforate foraminifera Borelis wackestonepackstone and very fine sandy mudstone） corresponding to the tidal flat,restricted and semirestricted lagoon and open marine environments of an inner and middle shelf ***-exposed outcrop horizons of Thalassinoides at the study section are a favorable tool for the regional outcrop sequence *** is considered as an outcrop key-bed for recognition of the Rupelian-Chattian maximum flooding depositional *** remnants （small colonies） in outcrop exposures also are associated with the HST depositional sequence （Chattian） for the asmari *** most important achievement of this research is use of associated maximum flooding surfaces （Pg30,Pg40,Pg50,Ngl0 and Ng20） in the Arabian *** maximum flooding surfaces could be recorded as an isochrones surface.

The asmari formation in the G oilfield on the Iran-Iraq border is a fractured-porous multi-lithology mixed reservoir, for which fracture is an important factor affecting oil productivity and water cut. The characterization and modeling of fractures in the carbonate reservoir of G oilfield are challenging due to weak conventional well log responses of fractures and a lack of specific logs, such as image logs. This study proposes an integrated approach for characterizing and modeling fractures in the carbonate reservoir. The features, formation mechanism, influencing factors, and prediction methods of fractures in the asmari formation carbonate reservoirs of G oilfield were studied using core observation, thin section, image log, cross-dipole acoustic log (CDAL), geomechanics numerical simulation (GNS), and production data. According to CDAL-based fracture density interpretation, GNS-based fracture intensity prediction between wells, and DFN-based rock fracture properties modeling, the quantitative fracture characterization for G oilfield was realized. This research shows that the fractures in the Asamri formation are mainly medium-to high-angle shear fractures. The substantial compression stress during the Miocene played a major role in the formation of the prominent fractures and determined their trend in the region, with primary trends of NNW-SSE and NNE-SSW. The fracture distribution has regularity, and the fractures in zone A dolomites are more highly developed than that in zone B limestones vertically. Horizontally, fractures intensity is mainly controlled by faults and structural location. The results of this study may benefit the optimization of well design during field development. From 2019 to 2021, three horizontal wells pilot tests were deployed in the fractures belt in zone A, and these fractures prominently increased the permeability of tight dolomite reservoirs. The Oligo-Miocen asmari formation is the most important oil reservoir in Iran. This study deals with facies associations, sedimentary environments and sequence stratigraphy of this formation in Masjed-I-Solyman oil field by using petrographical studies and statistical analysis. These findings show that studied succession belongs to the upper asmari formation (Bordigalian) with nine microfacies assosiations that consist of four wackestone, four packstone and one Boundstone microfacies. These microfacies were deposited in the inner and middle parts of a homoclinal carbonate ramp. Sequence stratigraphy studies express that the succession could be discriminated to four third order sedimentary sequences that would have been deposited under global sea level fluctuation (Eustasy).

The Oligocene-Miocene asmari formation is a thick sequence of shallow water carbonates of the Zagros Basin. Khaviz Anticline outcrop [near Behbahan city/Iran] was studied in this research in order to interpret the facies, depositional environment and sequence stratigraphy of the asmari formation succession. In this study, twelve different microfacies types have been recognized, which can be grouped into five (micro) facies associations: peritidal, lagoon, shoal, semi restricted marine and open marine. The asmari formation represents sedimentation on a carbonate ramp. According to the fauna data, the asmari formation is Oligocene (Rupelian/Chattian) to Early Miocene (Burdigalian) in age at the study area. Eight third-order depositional sequences are identified on the basis of deepening and shallowing patterns in the microfacies. The depositional sequences 0 and 1 (Rupelian-Chattian), 2, 3 and 4 (Chattian) were referred to the lower while sequences 5 and 6 (Aquitanian) were referred to the middle and sequence 7 (Burdigalian) was referred to the upper asmari formation. The relative sea-level curve of the asmari basin and its matching with the global sea-level curves documented that Global eustatic phenomena affected this basin.

The asmari formation is a predominantly carbonate lithostratigraphic unit that outcrops in the Zagros Basin. Micropaleontological studies of the asmari formation in the Dehdasht area led to the identification of 51 species of foraminifera taxa. Among the foraminifera, Nummulites cf. vascus, Operculin sp.,Operculina complanata, Eulepidina dilatata, Eulepidina elephantine, Ditrupa sp., Miogypsina sp., Elphidium sp. 14, and Borelis melo curdica are the most important. The Lepidocyclina-Operculina-Ditrupa assemblage zone represents the Rupeliane Chattian age. The Aquitanian age is also defined by co-occurrence of Miogypsina sp. and Elphidium sp. 14, and finally, the first occurrence of Borelis melo curdica represents the Burdigalian. Based on faunal assemblages, the following paleoenvironmental settings are determined for the deposition of the study section：（1） the deep, offshore settings in the aphotic zone dominated by pelagic and small benthic foraminifera;（2） the low energy, turbid and low light parts of the oligophotic zone characterized by large and flat lepidocyclinids（Eulepidina） and Nummulitidae;（3） the low turbidity,deeper part of the inner ramp dominated by Miogypsinoides, Neorotalia, Lepidocyclina, Operculina and Archias;（4） the shallow, marginal marine environment exposed to salinity fluctuations（short-term salinity fluctuations or fully marine conditions） dominated by small benthic Foraminifera（Ammonia and Elphidium）;（5） highly translucent, shallowest part of the inner ramp dominated by representatives of Borelis, Meandropsina and Peneroplis. The biotic assemblages represent warm tropical waters with oligotrophic to slightly mesotrophic conditions.

The Marun oil field is situated on the eastern part of Zagros, Iran. Aghajari formation is cropping out on the surface. The asmari formation, the Bangestan and Khami Groups are the Main reservoirs in this field and asmari formation is the most important reservoir. Dolomitic carbonates are dominant lithology in the study well. Increasing of shale Layers in different layers caused to decrease of brittle property and this condition had investigated by petrophysical evaluation. According to this research, near to 29 percent shale has mixed with sandstone rock units in the study well which is comparable with maximum porosity there. Because, sandstone layers have shown the best porosity (near to 26 percent) in the study well. Also, good rocks based on water saturation and porosity are situated in sandstone units and poor rocks have existed in the limestone-dolomites. Therefore, facies changes in the asmari formation can explain the observed variations in reservoir quality in the study area.

The asmari formation Oligo-Miocene in age is one of the most important reservoir rocks in SW Iran and Zagros basin and composed of carbonate rocks and locally sandstones and evaporates. In this research, reservoir quality controlling factors have been investigated in a well in one of the oil fields in Dezful Embayment, SW Iran. Based on this research, depositional environment, diagenesis and fracturing have been affected on reservoir quality. 3 distinct depositional settings can be recognized in the studied interval including tidal flat, lagoon, and shoal. Among these depositional setting, shoal environment with ooid grainstone microfacies along with interparticle porosity shows good reservoir characteristics. Diagenetic processes also play an important role on reservoir quality;dolomitization and dissolution have positive effects on porosity and enhances reservoir quality, while cementation, anhydritization and compaction have negative effect on it. Fracturing is another important factor affected on the carbonate reservoirs especially in the asmari formation.
