Importance of building maintenance at the time of architectural design of buildings rehabilitated with heritage value

During architectural conception phase,building maintenance problematic is mostly a result of the unintentional use of preconceived architectonical solutions rather than a consequence of a specific influence of maintenance *** the architect in the act of design understands the importance of these solutions in the service life span of a *** aware of this,is it possible for the architect to be supplied with a decision support system that allows him to consider the implications of building maintenance since the early design phases? Having awareness of this problem and its consequences in the early design phases a research project was started at the Faculty Engineering of the University of Oporto(FEUP),under which the implications of building maintenance in the act of architectural design is *** article presents the methodology developed to identify the needs of maintenance of buildings based on a DSS-decision support system that provides simple tools the architect can use in design *** methodology is based on decomposition of building parts-Elements Source of Maintenance ESM-,and subsequently,a set of functional requirements that determine the performance regarding building maintenance on account of architectural *** maintenance actions are defined: Inspection,Pro-action,Cleaning,Correction,Replacement,Legal enforcement,Limits of *** can thus set up a relationship between the act of design and its performance framework based on behavior,intervention and the ownership of the work of *** a Multicriteria Analysis(MCA) a qualitative evaluation of different options based on maintenance requirements *** on the importance of architectural conception concerning the building maintenance were clearly arrived at and the utility of the developed decision support tool was also highlighted.

As the architecture,engineering,and construction(AEC)industry is marching into the sustainable and low-carbon era,the performance of architecture has drawn more attention than *** technology has made quantified analysis of architectural performance possible and,therefore,directly enables architects and engineers to incorporate performance analysis into the design work *** is argued that performance-based and performancedriven architectural designs differ in that the latter involves computer-aided optimization technique so that the performance can be used as the criteria to truly“drive”the *** paper starts with a brief introduction of performance issues in architectural design,followed by a review of the evolution of performance-based architectural *** concept of performance-driven architectural design is presented,and some design projects and research work are *** driving engine,i.e.,optimization technique,and its application in architectural design is *** to making performance-driven design a common practice are explained,and a schematic of integrated performance-based/driven architectural design software is proposed.

What can be taught in architectural design?—parti,poché,and felt qualities

This essay begins with a reflection on what has been taught in architectural design since the turn of the twentieth century.I shall trace back to the two disciplinary foundations of the FrenchÉcole des Beaux-Arts-parti and poché-in the education of an architect in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.I shall then attempt to superimpose parti and pochéon a modern disciplinary framework,say that of mathematics,which leads to musings on a series of architectural problems that include pattern versus type,stability versus mobility,orthogonal versus oblique,confinement versus transparency,and aging versus metallic *** paradoxes,I suggest,demand the education of an architect to address both the instrumental pattern of a building configuration and the ambient felt qualities of a room,rather than vision alone.

With the development of society and the progress of the times, the category of architectural design continues to expand, and the connotation of architectural design continues to expand too. In order to fred a balance between the subjective value system and the objective value system, an architect must have a value orientation based on his own values and construct a judgment mode that what kind of value orientation is the lust choice for architectural design and how to guide and regulate the value orientation. Based on the concepts and principles of architectural design and value orientation, this study constructs a mode to solve the problem of priority value orientation in architectural design which is based on the analysis of the factors influencing architectural design.
