angiomyofibroblastoma (AMF) is a rare kind of soft tissue tumor that occurs predominantly in the vulva. Due to their location, clinicians often confuse AMF with Bartholin’s cyst or perineal hernia. Radiological evaluation is performed to rule out perineal hernia and invasive neoplasm. Like other benign mesenchymal tumors of vulva, AMF shows indolent behavior and rarely recurs after complete surgical excision.

Clinicopathologic analysis of angiomyofibroblastoma of the female genital tract

To study the clinicopathologic features and immunoprofile of angiomyofibroblastoma (AMF) with emphasis on differential diagnosis Methods Seven vulvar, two vaginal and one perineal angiomyofibroblastomas were evaluated by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry The immunohistochemical studies were performed on paraffin embedded sections using the standard ABC method with a panel of antibodies Results angiomyofibroblastoma predominantly occurred in middle aged women in the genital region, especially in the superficial area of the vulva Clinically, most of the tumors presented as slowly growing painless masses and were often diagnosed as Bartholin's gland cysts Histologically, the tumors were all well circumscribed and characterized by alternating hypocellular and hypercellular areas with abundant thin walled blood vessels The tumor cells were bland and spindle shaped or epithelioid and tended to concentrate around the vessels or cluster in small nests Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells expressed vimentin and estrogen receptor protein in all 10 cases and desmin in 9 cases Three cases showed weak or focal immunoreactivity to alpha smooth muscle actin and muscle specific actin All ten patients were treated by local excision Follow up showed a benign course with no signs of recurrence Conclusions angiomyofibroblastoma is a distinctive neoplasm that has a propensity to occur in the female genital tract Recognition of this entity is important to avoid misdiagnosis with other vulvar angiomyxoid neoplasms

Clinic Pathological Features of angiomyofibroblastoma in Vulva

Objective： To analyze the clinicopathological features and differential diagnosis of angiomyofibroblastoma （AMFB） of the vulva. Methods： Two cases of AMFB were examined by light microscopy and immunohistochemical study and to discuss the clinicopathological features and differential diagnosis of AMFB with the reference to the literature. Results： Tumors were all circumscribed, and 〈5 cm in diameter. Microscopically, the tumors were composed of spindle or polygonal cells that were cellularly or hypocellularly arranged with perivascular accentuation in a mucoid or fibrocollagenous background. The tumors contained numerous small- to medium-sized blood vessels, which were characteristically thin walled. Immunohistochemically, two cases of tumor cells were positive for vimentin, SMA, CD34（＋） and FⅧ（＋）. Desmin and MSA were positive in one case; Cytokeratin, S-100, CD31 were negative in both. Conclusion： AMFB is a rare, benign soft tissue tumor that occurs in the genital tract of adult women. The origin remains unclear, but it is suggested that an origin from a perivascular pluripotent stem cell that is capable of myofibroblastoma differentiation. angiomyofibroblastoma should be differentiated from other neoplasms of the vulva such as aggressive angiomyxoma, superficial angiomyxoma and cellular angiofibroma.

Objective:BACKGROUND:angiomyofibroblastoma(AMF) represents a rare,benign mesenchymal tumor with a predilection for the vulvovaginal region.A rapidly-growing painless mass occurred to a young woman,which may be misdiagnosed as aggressive *** of literature have been reported on the mechanism of ***:A 20-year-old nullipara Chinese woman presented with a unique pedunculated and polypoidal mass developing within six months in the left labium *** mass was measuring 18 X 10 X 6 cm with diffuse ulcerated areas and purulent *** received a total excision of the mass and microscopic examination as well as immuno-histochemical studies confirmed the diagnosis of *** was no evidence of recurrence according to eight-month follow-up *** whole exon sequencing analysis identified several aberrations that have been reported associated with ***:As a rare benign vulvovaginal tumor,AMF can present a polypoidal rapid-growth pattern on an early reproductive age *** Points When dealing with patient presenting a pedunculated painless mass in vulvovaginal region,AMF should be *** size and rapidly-growth pattern in a young woman could lead to misdiagnosis as *** evaluation for AMF should be performed,mimicking that for AAM,which requires the resection with wide tumor-free margins to prevent *** exon sequencing may give a shot to reveal histogenetic sources of the tumor.
