An aluminide（AlFe and α-（FeAl）） surface layer containing lower-Al was formed on ferritic-martensitic steel P92 by means of surface mechanical attrition treatment（SMAT） combined with a duplex aluminization process at lower temperatures,i.e.a packed aluminization followed by a diffusion annealing treatment below its tempering *** tests indicated that the lower-Al surface layer formed on the SMAT sample is more resistant to cracking and has better adhesion to the substrate in comparison with the Al 5Fe 2 layer formed on the as-received sample after the duplex aluminization *** steam oxidation measurements showed that the oxidation resistance is increased significantly by the lower-Al surface layer due to the formation of a protective（Fe,Cr）Al 2O 4 *** rate constant of oxidation was estimated to decrease from-0.849 mg^2 cm^-4h^-1 of the as-received material to^0.011 mg^2 cm^-4 h^-1 of the AlFe layer at 700 ℃.

The formation of iron aluminide coating was attempted through annealing of plasma-sprayed iron/aluminum composite *** plasma spraying with nitrogen as protective gas was employed to prepare iron/aluminum composite coating using mechanically blended iron and aluminum powders with Fe/Al atomic ratio of 65:*** of the as-sprayed coating was carried out in argon atmosphere at 450,500,550,and 600 o C for different *** microstructure of the coatings was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray *** effect of annealing on the microstructure and phase evolution in the coatings was *** results show that iron/aluminum composite coating with low oxide inclusions and porosity is deposited by shrouded plasma *** is found that Fe2Al5 intermetallics forms as an intermediate phase in the composite coating during *** the annealing duration and temperature increase,iron aluminide intermetallic phases in the coatings increase and the microstructure becomes more *** annealing at 600 o C for 336 h,FeAl and Fe3Al intermetallic phases will present in the coating as the main phases.

Microstructural characterization and crack formed mechanism during electron beam welding of titanium aluminide Ti-45Al-1.7Cr-1.7Nb were investigated. The results show that the welded microstructure exhibits columnar and dendritic structure. Microstructural constituents in the fusion zone are a massive gamma structure and some lamellar structure consists of alternating platelets of α2 and γ. The major contributing factor of the susceptibility to solidstate cracking is thermally induced stress. The import role of the suppression of the α phase decomposition, the difference of α2/γ phases thermal expansion coefficient and the lamellar spacing changes of lamellar structure with cooling rate all play effect on the crack forming mechanism.

Up to now, the aluminide coatings used to protect industrial components at high temperature and corrosive environments have been modified by Pt, Cr, Si and Ni. In this investigation, aluminide coatings were modified by titanium and the microstructural feature and formation mechanism were evaluated. The coatings were formed on a Ni-based superalloy(IN738LC) by a two stage process including titanizing at first and aluminizing thereafter. Pack cementation titanizing performed at temperatures 950° C and 1050° C in several mixtures of Ti, A12O3 and NH^Cl. At the second stage, aluminum diffused into surface of the specimens by an industrial aluminizing process known as Elcoatl01(4 hrs at 1050° C). The modified coatings were characterized by means of standard optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-Ray diffraction methods. The results show that Ti in the coatings is mainly present in the form of TiNi and Al67Cr8Ti25. Titanium modified coatings grew with a mechanism similar to simple aluminizing; this includes inward diffusion of Al from the pack to the substrate and then outward diffusion of Ni from the substrate to the coating. The advantages and characteristics of this two-stage modified coating is discussed and the process parameters are proposed to obtain a coating of optimum microstructure.

The halide activated pack cementation method is utilized to deposit aluminide and chromium modified aluminide coatings on TiAl alloys. Emphasis is placed on the effect of alloying elements on the aluminizing kinetics as well as on the study of formation of chromium modified aluminide coating. The addition of a small amount of Nb and Cr in the TiAl improves significantly the aluminizing kinetics of TiAl alloys by increasing the reaction rate of active Al atoms with substrate through grain refinement as well as by increasing the solid state diffusion of Al through the formation of stable TiAl 3 layer. Cr and Al are simultaneously co deposited by diffusion into K 5 alloy, by a single step, pack cementation process. The morphologies of the coating formed on K 5 substrate, i.e., an external layer with L1 2 structure and an underlying interdiffusion zone, are presented. The mechanism for the formation of Cr modified aluminide coating is discussed.

The preliminary results of research on forming the aluminide coatings using CVD method were presented in the article. The coatings were obtained in low activity process on the surface of Rene 80 superalloy. The microstructure analysis and chemical composition analysis were performed applying different values of aluminizing process parameters. The authors present in the article the results of oxidation resistance analysis of aluminide coatings which were obtained on the surface of Rene 80 superalloy using various techniques. It was shown that the coating created during the CVD process was characterized by a good oxidation resistance at the temperature of 1100℃.

Being aimed to developing intermetallic base structural materials to be worked at above 1000℃, a systematic investigation has been performed of the fundamental crystallographic structure, phase constitution map, density-composition dependence, oxidation resistance and general mechanical behaviour for the ternary intermetallic alloys in the Nb-Ti-Al system. Promissing results have been obtained at the initial stage in the current program. The 1100℃ high temperature strength at the strain rate of 10-2/s and 10-5/s for the ternary compound NbTiAl3 (γ1) base alloys are generally much higher than that of the binary compound TiAl (γ), especially in the γ1 + α2 phase region, it is as high as twice as that of TiAl. The densities are 4.1-4.79g/cm3, depending on relative amount of the intermetallics involved and the density difference between the intermetallics. The oxidation resistance at the temperature of 900-1200℃ of the compound NbTiAl3 is relatively low but still acceptable. However, by adjusting the
