The effect of Ce addition on the morphology of the α（al）-al2cu eutectic in al-si-cu alloy was investigated using thermal analysis, light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, focused ion beam and energy dispersive analysis. The results show that the eutectic α（al）-al2cu forms within small space between dendrites, silicon and alsiFeMn plates. Eutectic al2cu is not lamellar but degenerated. However, al2cu in Ce-modified alloys is more compact. Ce partially dissolves in al2cu, which is a viable reason for the formation of coarser al2cu. The addition of Ce also increases the microhardness of theα（al）-al2cu eutectic by almost 10%compared with the basic al-si-cu alloy.

Controlling process parameters of lost foam casting （LFC） enables this process to produce defect-free complex shape castings. An experimental investigation on lost foam casting of an A1-si-cu cast alloy was carried out. The effects of pouting temperature, slurry viscosity, vibration time and sand size on surface finish, shrinkage porosity and eutectic silicon spacing of thin-wall casting were investigated. A full two-level factorial design of experimental technique was used to identify the significant manufacturing factors affecting the properties of casting. Pouring temperature was found as the most significant factor affecting A1-si-cu lost foam casting quality. It was shown that flask vibration time interacted with pouring temperature influenced euteetic silicon spacing and porosity percentage significantly. The results also revealed that the surface quality of the samples cast in fine sand moulds at higher pouring temperatures was almost unchanged, while those cast in coarse sand moulds possessed lower surface qualities. Furthermore, variation in slurry viscosity showed no significant effect on the evaluated properties compared to other parameters.

This paper presents a systematic investigation of the microstructural evolution and mechanical proper-ties of al-7si-3cu alloys prepared under high pressure of 5 *** is found that the dendritic structure disappears due to the enhanced stability of the growth interface under high ***,a con-siderable solute-induced modification effect is achieved in the eutectic ***,unconventional larger eutectic colonies and ultrafine nanocrystalline eutectics are observed within the intragranular ***-bined with detailed microstructural characterization,the crucial role of high pressure on the evolution of these isolated phases is *** study also explores the precipitation behavior and strengthening mechanisms of alloys prepared under direct aging and solution-aging *** the direct aging treatment,θ’phases,coarse al 2 cu particles,and si particles form simultaneously in the matrix owing to the increased solid solubility of alloying elements,which results in the highest mechanical properties with a microhardness of 132.8 HV and compressive stress of 715 ***-aging treatment leads to the segregation of si onθ’phases,which proved to be energetically favorable according to first-principles *** work provides new insights into the microstructural optimization of aluminum-silicon-based alloys through high-pressure manipulation and paves the way for further industrial applications.

The effects of Zn content on strength and wear performance of al-12si-3 cu alloy synthesized by gravity casting were systematically *** microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloys were evaluated using OM,XRD,SEM as well as hardness,tension,compression and Charpy impact *** dry sliding wear tests were carried out with a ball-on-disk *** examinations revealed that the microstructure of the base alloy consisted of theα(al)dendrites,needle-type and coarse si particles,and cual2(θ)*** addition of Zn to this alloy resulted in the formation ofα-solid solution phase and the increase of coarse si *** hardness,yield,tensile and compressive strengths,elongation to fracture and impact toughness of the al-12si-3 cu-Zn alloys increased with increasing Zn content,but tendency in the tensile and compressive strengths and ductility reversed after adding 1.5%-2%*** addition,the friction coefficient and volume loss of the al-12si-3 cu-Zn alloys decreased with increasing Zn *** study showed that the addition of Zn to al-12si-3 cu alloy can improve its potential applications as tribological material.
