Effects of residues produced by agricultural wastes fermentation(AWF)on low grade copper sulfide ores bioleaching,copper recovery,and microbial community were *** results indicated that adding appropriate bulk of AWF made contributions to low grade copper sulfide ores bioleaching,which may be mainly realized through reducing the passivation layer formed by Fe3+*** copper recovery(78.35%)and bacteria concentration(9.56×10^(7)cells·mL^(−1))were yielded in the presence of 5 g·L^(−1)*** result of 16S rDNA analysis demonstrated that microbial community was differentiated by adding *** proportion,such as Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans,Moraxella osloensis,and Lactobacillus acetotolerans changed *** difference between samples was showed according to beta diversity index,and the maximum value reached *** ferrooxidans accounted for the highest proportion throughout the bioleaching process,and that of sample in the presence of 5 g·L^(−) AWF reached 28.63%.The results should show reference to application of agricultural wastes and low grade copper sulfide ores.

Folic Acid-Functionalized Nanocrystalline Cellulose as a Renewable and Biocompatible Nanomaterial for Cancer-Targeting Nanoparticles

Comparative experimental research on technology of preparing activated carbon from three different kinds of agricultural wastes was studied. The elemental composition of raw materials and experimental samples was analyzed, and the samples were observed by SEM and compared with commercial activated carbon. It was found that cotton stalks, corn stalk and rice stalk could be converted into activated carbon by activation method, the adsorption ability of cotton stalk activated carbon and corn stalk activated carbon are relatively close to each other, and the cotton stalk and corn stalk are more suita- ble for the production of activated carbon.

The study focuses on the development of biocompatible and stable FA-functionalized nanocrystalline cellulose(NCC)as a potential drug delivery system for targeting folate receptor-positive cancer *** FA-functionalized NCCs were synthesized through a series of chemical reactions,resulting in nanoparticles with favorable properties for biomedical *** microstructural analysis revealed that the functionalized NCCs maintained their rod-shaped morphology and displayed hydrodynamic diameters suitable for evading the mononuclear phagocytic system while being large enough to target tumor ***,these nanoparticles possessed a negative surface charge,enhancing their stability and repelling potential *** binding specificity of FA-functionalized NCCs to folate receptor-positive cancer cells was demonstrated through various *** free folic acid inhibition assay showed approximately 30%decrease in the binding of functionalized NCCs in the presence of just 5 mM free FA,confirming their selectivity for folate receptor-positive *** microscopy further validated this specificity,as only cancer cells displayed significant binding of functionalized ***,biocompatibility tests revealed that both NCCs and FA-functionalized NCCs had minimal effects on red blood cells,and they did not induce erythrocyte ***,cell viability assays demonstrated functionalized NCCs have selective cytotoxicity against colorectal cancer cells HT-29 and SW-620(68%–88%cell viability)while sparing noncancerous colon cells CCD-18Co(81%–97%cell viability).In summary,FA-functionalized NCCs exhibit promising characteristics for targeted drug delivery in cancer *** biocompatibility,stability,and selective cytotoxicity make them an attractive option for delivering therapeutic agents to folate receptor-positive cancer cells,potentially improving the effectiveness of cancer treatments while minimizing harm to healthy tissues.

This article presents a study on the resistance to chloride penetration, corrosion, porosity, and strength of mortar containing fine fly ash （FA）, ground rice husk-bark ash （RB）, and ground bagasse ash （BA）. Ordinary Portland cement （CT） was blended with a single pozzolan and two pozzolans. Strength, porosity, rapid chloride penetration, immersion, and corrosion tests were performed to characterize the mortar. Test results showed that the use of ternary blends of CT, FA, and RB or BA decreased the porosity of the mortar, as compared with binary blended mortar containing CT and RB or BA. The resistance to chloride penetration of the mortar improved substantially with partial replacement of CT with FA, RB, and BA. The use of ternary blends of CT, FA and RB or BA produced the mortar with good strength and resistance to chloride penetration. The resistance to chloride penetration was higher with an increase in the replacement level due to the reduced calcium hydroxide.

This work explores the feasibility of Jerusalem artichoke stem （JAS）, an agricultural waste, as an alternative precursor for fabrication of mesoporous activated carbon （MAC） via conventional ZnC12 activation. The as-prepared JAS-MACs were characterized by thermogravimetric, nitrogen gas adsorption isotherm and high resolution scanning electron microscopy analysis. The interacting effects of chemical dosage, activation temperature and time on the mesoporosity, mesopore volume and carbon yield were investigated, and further optimized by response surface methodology （RSM）. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area, mesoporosity and mesopore volume of the JAS-MAC prepared under optimum condition were identified to be 1631 m^2·g ^-1, 90.16% and 1.11 cm3·g ^-1, respectively. Compared with commercial activated carbons, this carbon exhibited a comparable monolayer adsorption capacity of 374.5 mg .g 1 for Methylene Blue dye. The findings suggest that RSM could be an effective approach for optimizing the pore structure of fabricated activated carbons.

Environmental pollution caused by metals, radionuclides and organic pollutants affects quality of the biosphere: soil, water and ***, great efforts have been made to reduce, remove or stabilize contaminants in polluted sites. There has been increasing interest in phytoremediation—the use of plants to reduce concentration of pollutants or to render them harmless. This paper provides a brief review of recent progress in the research and practical application of phytoremediation techniques. Improvements in phytoremediation due to utilization of organic amendments, namely, agro- and industrial wastes(such as sugar beet residue, composted sewage sludge or molasses), biochar, humic substances, plant extracts and exudates are discussed, as well as their influences on soil structure and characteristics, plants growth and bioavailability of pollutants. Both plant-assisted phytoremediation and the use of natural materials in the absence of remediating plant are believed to be cost-effective and environmentally friendly approaches for soil cleanup. However,the characterization and quantification of a range of natural materials used in phytoremediation are essential in order to implement these approaches to practice.

Penicillium expansum 3.5425 was applied in solid-state fermentation(SSF)of agricultural wastes for polygalacturonase *** various carbon additives,apple pomace was most suitable for the biosynthesis of polygalacturonase(1440.57 U/g).Optimization of medium parameters using rotational orthogonal design(ROD)experiment combined with optimal fermentation conditions resulted in a 2.72-fold increase in the polygalacturonase *** using ammonium sulphate precipitation,ion-exchange and gel-permeation chromatography,the polygalacturonase produced by *** 3.5425 was finally purified which had specific activity of 19269 U/mg and molecular weight of 30 *** enzyme was remarkably active in the pH range of 3-5 and at 50℃,which makes it more acceptable in the industrial ***,partially purified polygalacturonase(875.15 U/mL)was used for apple juice clarification and the clarity at 0.4 mL/kg was maximum,which reveals a great potential of polygalacturonase in food industry.

Pleurotus sajor-caju (Fr.) Singer was cultivated on selected agro wastes viz. cotton stalks, groundnut haulms, soybean straw, pigeon pea stalks; leaves; wheat straw, alone or in combinations. Cotton stalks, pigeon pea stalks; wheat straw alone or in combination were found to be more suitable than groundnut haulms; soybean straw for the cultivation. Organic supplements such as groundnut oilseed cake, gram powder; rice bran not only affected growth parameters but also increased yields. Thus bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass by P. sajor-caju offers a promising way to convert low quality biomass into an improved human food.

Characterization of Peanut Shells for Their Valorization in Earth Brick

Peanut shells from Burkina Faso were characterized using mineralogical, microstructural and chemical methods to perform its possibility to be used as reinforce in adobe bricks. It consists of cellulose (48 wt%), hemicellulose (3 wt%) and lignin (28 wt%). The peanut shells were characterized by high porosity and showed water absorption around 198% at 72 hours. Its chemical composition is essentially composed of silica, iron oxides, alumina and calcium oxide. Its microstructure showed that the peanut shells were a compilation of microfibers with high porous of borders. In watery solution, the peanut shells released polyphenols. Thermal conductivity of peanut at 25 °C was 0.155 ± 0.021 W/mK. The physico-chemical characteristics of peanut shells were similar to those found with agricultural by-products used in adobe reinforce.
