acetic acid and furfural are known as prevalent inhibitors deriving from pretreatment during lignocellulosic ethanol *** negatively impact cell growth,glucose uptake and ethanol biosynthesis of Saccharomyces cerevisiae *** of industrial *** strains with high tolerance towards these inhibitors is thus critical for efficient lignocellulosic ethanol *** this study,the acetic acid or furfural tolerance of different *** strains could be significantly enhanced after adaptive evolution via serial cultivation for 40 generations under stress *** acetic acid-based adaptive strain SPSC01-TA9 produced 30.5 g·L^(-1)ethanol with a yield of 0.46 g·g^(-1)in the presence of 9 g·L^(-1)acetic acid,while the acetic acid/furfural-based adaptive strain SPSC01-TAF94 produced more ethanol of 36.2 g·L^(-1)with increased yield up to 0.49 g·g^(-1)in the presence of both 9 g·L^(-1)acetic acid and 4 g·L^(-1)*** improvements were also observed during non-detoxified corn stover hydrolysate culture by SPSC01-TAF94,which achieved ethanol production and yield of 29.1 g·L^(-1)and 0.49 g·g^(-1),respectively,the growth and fermentation efficiency of acetic acid/furfural-based adaptive strain in hydrolysate was 95%higher than those of wildtype strains,indicating the acetic acid-and furfural-based adaptive evolution strategy could be an effective approach for improving lignocellulosic ethanol *** adapted strains developed in this study with enhanced tolerance against acetic acid and furfural could be potentially contribute to economically feasible and sustainable lignocellulosic biorefinery.

acetic acid chromoendoscopy: Improving neoplasia detection in Barrett's esophagus

Barrett’s esophagus (BE) is an important condition given its significant premalignant potential and dismal five-year survival outcomes of advanced esophageal adenocarcinoma. It is therefore suggested that patients with a diagnosis of BE undergo regular surveillance in order to pick up dysplasia at an earlier stage to improve survival. Current “gold-standard” surveillance protocols suggest targeted biopsy of visible lesions followed by four quadrant random biopsies every 2 cm. However, this method of Barrett’s surveillance is fraught with poor endoscopist compliance as the procedures are time consuming and poorly tolerated by patients. There are also significant miss-rates with this technique for the detection of neoplasia as only 13% of early neoplastic lesions appear as visible nodules. Despite improvements in endoscope resolution these problems persist. Chromoendoscopy is an extremely useful adjunct to enhance mucosal visualization and characterization of Barrett’s mucosa. acetic acid chromoendoscopy (AAC) is a simple, non-proprietary technique that can significantly improve neoplasia detection rates. This topic highlight summarizes the current evidence base behind AAC for the detection of neoplasia in BE and provides an insight into the direction of travel for further research in this area.

Influence of the structure of TiO_2 , CeO_2 , and CeO_2-TiO_2 supports on the activity of Ru catalysts in the catalytic wet air oxidation of acetic acid

Ru catalysts, supported on TiO 2 , CeO 2 , and CeO 2 -TiO 2 , were prepared by the impregnation method. The effect of the structure of the supports on the activity of Ru catalysts was investigated in the catalytic wet air oxidation （CWAO） of acetic acid under 230℃ and 5 MPa in a batch reactor. Physical properties including the surface area, crystalline phase, and surface components of the Ru catalysts were characterized by N 2 adsorption, X-ray powder diffraction （XRD）, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）. The CeO 2 -based Ru catalysts had good activity, and the prepared RuO 2 /CeO 2 catalyst showed markedly higher activity than the RuO 2 /CeO 2 -TiO 2 catalyst. The surface structure, the high amount of chemisorbed oxygen on the catalyst surface, and the suitable pH pzc value of the supports played an important role in the activity of the Ru catalysts in CWAO of acetic acid.

Effect of thermal pretreatment on the surface structure of PtSn/SiO2 catalyst and its performance in acetic acid hydrogenation

The effect of thermal pretreatment on the active sites and catalytic performances of PtSn/SiO2 catalyst in acetic acid （AcOH） hydrogenation was investigated in this article. The catalysts were characterized by N2 physical adsorption, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, pyridine Fourier-transform infrared spectra, and H2-O2 titration on its physicochemical properties. The results showed that Pt species were formed primarily in crystalline structure and no PtSnx alloy was observed. Meanwhile, with the increment of thermal pretreatrnent temperature, Pt dispersion showed a decreas- ing trend due to the aggregation of Pt particles. Simultaneously, the amount of Lewis acid sites was remarkably influenced by such thermal pretreatment owning to the consequent physicochemical property variation of Sn species. Interestingly, the catalytic activity showed the similar variation trend with that of Lewis acid sites, confirming the important roles of Lewis acid sites in AcOH hydrogenation. Moreover, a balancing effect between exposed Pt and Lewis acid sites was obtained, resulting in the superior catalytic performance in AcOH hydrogenation.

Kinetics of Mild Steel Corrosion in Aqueous acetic acid Solutions

The kinetics of mild steel corrosion in aqueous acetic acid solution has been investigated by weight loss and polarization techniques at 25,35 and 45℃.The weight loss of mild steel at room temperature （25℃） has been found to be quite significant,indicating poor corrosion resistance in acetic *** maximum corrosion rate has been observed in 25% acetic acid solution at all three experimental *** decrease in corrosion rate after attaining a maximum value has been attributed to the deposition of corrosion product on the *** polarization curves exhibit active behaviour at each concentration and temperature with a shift towards higher current density region and increased corrosion rates at higher *** cathodic polarization curves are almost identical irrespective either of the concentration of acetic acid or *** results obtained by both the techniques are in good agreement,while the surface studies support the conclusions drawn from the weight loss method.

Conversion of the refractory ammonia and acetic acid in catalytic wet air oxidation of animal byproducts

Wet air oxidation （WAO） and catalytic wet air oxidation （CWAO） of slaughtered animal byproducts （ABPs） were investigated. Two step experiment was carried out consisting of a non-catalysed WAO run followed by a CWAO run at 170-275 ℃, 20 MPa, and reaction time 180 min. The WAO （lst step） of sample （5 g/L total organic carbon （TOC）） yielded （82.0 ±4）% TOC removal and （78.4 ± 13.2）% conversion of the initial organic-N into NH4＋-N. Four metal catalysts （Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru） supported over alumina have been tested in catalytic WAO （2nd step） at elevated pH to enhance ammonia conversion and organic matter removal, particularly acetic acid. It was found that the catalysts Ru, Pt, and Rh had significant effects on the TOC removal （95.1%, 99.5% and 96.7%, respectively） and on the abatement of ammonia （93.4%, 96.7% and 96.3%, respectively） with high nitrogen selectivity. The catalyst Pd was found to have the less activity while Pt had the best performance. The X-Ray diffraction analysis showed that the support of catalyst was not stable under the experimental conditions since it reacted with phosphate present in solution. Nitrite and nitrate ions were monitored during the oxidation reaction and it was concluded that CWAO of ammonia in real waste treatment framework was in good agreement with the results obtained from the literature for ideal solutions of ammonia.

Alkaline earth metal （Mg,Ca,Sr and Ba）-doped Mo-V-Sb-O x catalysts,prepared by a dry-up method,have been investigated for their catalytic performance in the oxidation of propane under different reaction *** catalysts have been characterized by N2 adsorption-desorption,temperature-programmed desorption （TPD） of NH3,SEM and *** of water vapor on the catalytic performance,particularly on the selectivities to acetic acid and acrylic acid,has also been *** selectivity to acrylic acid was improved significantly by the doping of alkaline earth metals to Mo-V-Sb-O x *** surface acidic sites of the catalyst decreased with the doping of the catalyst with alkaline earth metals,which ultimately was found to be beneficial for obtaining high selectivity to acrylic *** catalytic activity and product selectivities were found to be influenced by the reaction temperature,C3H8/O2 ratio and space velocity.A significant improvement in the selectivity to acrylic acid has also been observed by the addition of water vapor in the feed of propane and oxygen in the oxidation of propane.

Catalytic upgrading biomass-derived ethanol and acetic acid into C4 chemicals

Synthesis of value-added chemicals from biomass is an essential strategy to mitigate the global dependency on fossil resources and achieve the aim of carbon neutrality. Thereinto, ethanol and acetic acid are crucial biomass-derived platform ***, catalytic upgrading ethanol and acetic acid into C4 energy-intensive fuels and chemicals via the elongation of carbon backbone has received widespread attention. The primary focus of this review is to systematically describe the recent breakthrough in the conversion of ethanol or acetic acid to C4 chemicals including 1,3-butadiene, n-butenes, isobutene or *** attentions will be given to heterogeneous catalyst design strategies, reaction parameters on the catalytic performance along with the relevant mechanism investigations, as well as their future challenges and opportunities. The present review will provide the detailed insights into the synthesis of C4 chemicals from biomass-derived ethanol and acetic acid and shed a light on the development of highly efficient catalysts.

Required catalytic properties for alkane production from carboxylic acids: Hydrodeoxygenation of acetic acid

The supported Pt catalysts(1 wt%)were prepared by the incipient impregnation method and analyzed using synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction,BET surface area,oxygen adsorption,CO pulse chemisorption,temperature-programmed desorption(TPD)of acetic acid,H2-TPD,NH3-TPD,O2-TPD,and *** reactivity of Pt-based catalysts was studied using a fixed bed reactor at 300 C and 4 MPa for hydrodeoxygenation of acetic acid,where Pt/TiO2 was very selective for ethane *** experiments revealed that several conditions must be satisfied to achieve this high selectivity to ethane from acetic acid,such as Pt sites,moderate acidity,and medium metal-oxygen bond strength in the oxide *** work provides insights in developing novel catalytic materials for hydrocarbon productions from various organics including bio-fuels.
