Spirodiclofen Derivatives as Highly Potential acaricides: Synthesis, Structure and Bioactivity

A series of new compounds as highly potential acaricides was synthesized based on the structure of spiro-diclofen. Their structures were identified by 1H NMR spectroscopy and element analysis. The bioassay indicated that most of the compounds exhibited excellent acaricidal activities, what’s more, the bioactivities of some new compounds were better than that of the commercial spirodiclofen at a concentration of 20 μg/mL. The relationship between structure and biological activity was also discussed.

The effects of retarding resistance evolution of mixing and sequencing acaricides were studied based on the resistance selection of three acaricides to Tetranychus cinnabarinus in the laboratory. Tetrany-chus cinnabarinus was continuously selected with fenpropathrin, abamectin and pyridaban for 28, 30 and 31 generations, respectively, and resistance factor increased to 65.6, 7.2 and 1.2 time, accordingly. Results of cross-resistance determination suggested that there were no cross-resistance existed among the three acaricides. Analysis of resistance selection and estimation of realized heritability (h2) of resistance to three single and two mixed acaricides showed that a mixture of fenpropathrin+abamectin would slow resistance development compared with a sequence of fenpropathrin followed by abamectin while the mixture of pyridaben+abamectin and the sequence of pyridaben followed by abamectin would effectively retard resistance evolution.

Fourteen avermectin B2 a aglycon derivatives were designed and synthesized after removing the oleandrose disaccharide of avermectin B2 *** structures were characterized by’H NMR,13 C NMR,*** bioassays indicated that these compounds exhibited good insecticidal activity against diamondback moth at 200 mg/L,with mortality no less than 90%.Compounds 10 b,12 a,12 c,17 demonstrated good acaricidal activity against the adult mites,larvae,and good inhibition rate of hatching to mite eggs of Tetranychus *** 5,10 b,10 c exhibited excellent fungicidal activity against fourteen fungal pathogens in vitro.3 D-QSAR analysis showed that the fungicidal activity of avermectin B2 a aglycon derivatives would be increased when a negatively charged and bulky group was introduced at 13-position,which will be instructive for the further modification of avermectin B2 aaglycon.

Efficacy of Metarhizium anisopliae in controlling the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae on common bean in screenhouse and field experiments

The efficacy of aqueous and emulsifiable formulations of the fungus Metarhizium anisopliae isolate ICIPE78 was evaluated on the population density of Tetranychus urticae infesting common bean plants under screenhouse and field conditions. Synthetic acaricide abamectin was included as a check. Bean plants were artificially infested with T. urticae and allowed to multiply. Three treatments were applied in the screenhouse and 1 treatment in field trials. Mite density was recorded 2 d before spraying and weekly postspraying. The number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, and the dry weight of seeds per plant were recorded only in the screenhouse trials. In both screenhouse and field trials, fungal formulations applied at the concentration of 108 conidia/mL and the aearicide reduced the population density of mites as compared to the controls. There were signif- icant differences in T. urticae population densities between the treatments at the various post-spraying sampling dates. In the screenhouse, the mite densities were near zero from 3-week postspraying in the treated leaves. At 4-week postspraying, there were no more leaves in the untreated control （T1） and in the control water ＋ Silwet-L77 （T2）. Fungal formulations were as effective as abamectin in reducing mite densities in both screenhouse and field experiments. There were significant differences in the production parameters during the 2 screenhouse trials, with fungal and abamectin treatments generally having the highest yield. Results of this study underline the potential of the M. anisopliae isolate ICIPE78 as an alternative to acaricides for T. urticae management.

Chitin synthesis inhibitors： old molecules and new developments

Chitin is the most abundant natural aminopolysaccharide and serves as a structural component of extracellular matrices. It is found in fungal septa, spores, and cell walls, and in arthropod cuticles and peritrophic matrices, squid pens, mollusk shells, nematode egg shells, and some protozoan cyst walls. As prokaryotes, plants and vertebrates including humans do not produce chitin, its synthesis is considered as an attractive target site for fungicides, insecticides, and acaricides. Although no chitin synthesis inhibitor has been developed into a therapeutic drug to treat fungal infections in humans, a larger number of compounds have been successfully launched worldwide to combat arthropod pests in agriculture and forestry. This review summarizes the latest advances on the mode of action of chitin synthesis inhibitors with a special focus on those molecules that act on a postcatalytic step of chitin synthesis.

Impact of transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis cotton on a non-target pest Tetranychus spp. in northern China

Field studies were carried out to evaluate the effect of two transgenic cotton varieties （SGK321 carrying CryIA ＋ CpTI and DP99B carrying CryIAc） and the conventional variety （shiyuan321-parental line of SGK321） on spider mites, Tetranychus spp. from 2002 to 2004. In 2002, this experiment included three treatments： Bt cotton field （SGK321） treated with acaricides against spider mites, untreated non-Bt cotton field （Shiyuan321）, and untreated Bt cotton field （SGK321）. In 2003-2004, there are four types of treatments after a new transgenic Bt cotton variety, DP99B （non-chemical control）, was added into the experiments. The results showed that there were no significant difference in densities of spider mites among Bt without acaricides and non-Bt without acaricides cotton fields, nor was there a significant difference in damage of spider mites to cotton among these treatments （P 〉 0.1）. However, there are significant differences （P 〈 0.05） in densities of spider mites and damage caused by spider mites between cotton fields with and without acaricides. acaricide significantly reduced the densities of spider mites in Bt cotton （P 〈 0.05）. These results suggest that Bt cotton has no effect on spider mites populations. However, spider mites have the potential for severe damage in Bt cotton fields. acaricides are essential tools in controlling cotton spider mites in northern China.

Spectrophotometric Determination of Kelthane in Environmental Samples

Sensitive spectrophotometric method for determination of kelthane in sub parts per million level is described, which is based on Fujiwara reaction. Kelthane on alkaline hydrolysis gives chloroform, which can be reacted with pyridine to produce red colour. The colour is discharged by addition of glacial acetic acid. Then Benzidine (4,4’-Bianiline) reagent is added due to which a yellowish-red colour is formed which has an absorption maximum at 490nm. Beer’s law is obeyed in the range of 3.3 - 26.0 μg (0.13 - 1.04 ppm) of Kelthane per 25ml of final solution. The molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity were found to be 4.32 × 105 L?mol–1?cm–1 and 0.022 μg?cm–2 respectively. The method is found to be free from interferences of other organochlorine pesticides and various co-pollutants and can be successfully applied for the determination of kelthane in environmental samples.
