atm forum已对一项中等速度的标准局域接口取得了一致意见.该接口所支持的带宽可以缩放,从51.8Mbps一直缩减到较低的速率.在3类线缆上传输51Mbps决非易事,需要使用数字信号处理的复杂编码方式.支持CAP—16的芯片仍然处于实验室阶段,因而很难了解这种新的51.8Mbpsatm适配器的售价.出于在UTP—5上传输155Mbps将使用简单得多的NRZI编码方式,因此很有可能51Mbps适配器的售价要比带宽为其3倍的OC—3C适配器的售价差不多或更贵一些.当然,就atm交换机来说,事情稍为复杂一点,因为支持速度较快的端口总是会影响交换机的设计.
