The choice of females to accept or reject male courtship is a critical decision for animal ***(5-hydroxytryptamine;5-ht)has been found to regulate sexual behavior in many species,but it is unclear how 5-ht and its receptors function to regulate different aspects of sexual *** we used Drosophila melanogaster as the model animal to investigate how 5-ht and its receptors modulate female sexual *** found that knockout of tryptophan hydroxylase(Trh),which is involved in the biosynthesis of 5-ht,severely reduced virgin female receptivity without affecting post-mating *** identified a subset of sexually dimorphic Trh neurons that co-expressed fruitless(fru),in which the activity was correlated with sexual receptivity in *** also found that 5-ht1A and 5-ht7 receptors regulate virgin female *** findings demonstrate how 5-ht functions in sexually dimorphic neurons to promote virgin female receptivity through two of its receptors.

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder without effective therapy and can affect a person's *** mechanism of the disease is not completely ***,there is a need to understand the targets related to insomnia,in order to develop innovative therapies and new ***,increasing interest has been focused on complementary and alternative medicines for treating or preventing *** into their molecular components has revealed that their sedative and sleep-promoting properties rely on the interactions with various neurotransmitter systems in the *** this review,the role of 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-ht)in insomnia development is summarized,while a systematic analysis of studies is conducted to assess the mechanisms of herbal medicines on different 5-ht receptors subtypes,in order to provide reference for subsequent research.

Effect of 5-ht1 agonist (sumatriptan) on anorectal function in irritable bowel syndrome patients

AIM： To evaluate the effect of sumatriptan, a selective 5-ht1 agonist, on anorectal function in irritable bowel syndrome （IBS） patients. METHODS： Twenty-two IBS patients selected according to the Rome II criteria （F 15, M 7; mean age 29.3±6.8, range 22-44 years） were examined. The study was blind, randomized and placebo-controlled with a crossover design. Anorectal manometry and rectal balloon distension test were performed before and after the administration of placebo and sumatriptan. RESULTS： The administration of sumatriptan caused a significant increase in the resting anal canal pressure from 9.2±2.0 kPa to 13.1±3.3 kPa （P〈0.0001） connected with the increase in the anal sphincter length and high pressure zone. After sumatriptan injection a remarkable increase in the threshold for the first sensation from 27±9 mL to 34±12 mL （P〈0.05） and urge sensation from 61±19 mL to 68±18 mL （P〈0.01） was observed. Sumatriptan did not affect either the volume evoking the rectoanal inhibitory reflex or the results of the straining test. CONCLUSION： 5-ht1 receptors participate in the regulation of anorectal function. Elucidation of the role of 5-ht1 receptors in the pathophysiological mechanisms of IBS may have some therapeutic implications.

＜正＞Sea sickness（SS）has great negative impact to the mental and physical state of workers on the *** vestibular nucleus（VN） is the first station of vestibular information transmitted to the central neural system,which plays an important role in the pathway of equilibrium and converging directly or indirectly the non-vestibular stimulation information from posture,eye and ***,pharmacological experiments have demonstrated that some agonist or antagonist of 5-ht receptors can inhibit the symptoms of motion *** motion or caloric vestibular stimulation can enhance the concentration of 5-ht in the *** the 5-ht and its receptors may be involved in the development and adaptation process of the *** present study,the changes of 5-ht receptors mRNA expression in rats VN and changes of monoamine in brain stems was demonstrated,after motion stimulation in the 1st,3rd,7th and 14th day,by RT-PCR,Realtime PCR and HPLC-ED methods,*** results as below:*** are 6 subtypes of 5-ht1/2 receptor mRNA in the rat VN:5-ht1A,5-ht1B,5-ht1D,5-ht1F,5-ht2A and 5-ht2C receptor subtypes;2.5-ht1A,5- ht1D and 5-ht2A receptor mRNA expression were increased after the 1st day of motion stimulation（P＆lt;0.01）,and reach the peak at the 3rd day（P＆lt;0.01）,and began to come down after 7 days motion stimulation,nearly to the normal level at the 14th day;5-ht1B receptor mRNA has no notable change at the 1st day after motion stimulation,and significantly increased at the 3rd day（P＆lt;0.01）,and then came down to the normal level at the 7th day;3.5-ht1F and 5-ht2C receptors mRNA have no notable changes during the 7 days motion *** mRNA expression of 5-ht receptor subtypes in the VN of rats brain stems changed after motion stimulation;The quantity and function of 5-ht receptors in rats’ VN may be involved in the set-up and adaptation process of sea sickness,and different receptor subtypes may worked through different regulative pathway.
