The Southern house mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus relies on its olfactory system to locate the human hosts for blood meals,by which several deadly diseases are transmitted.Olfactory sensory neurons(OSNs)housed in the sensilla on the olfactory appendages send their axons into the antennal lobes(ALs),the primary olfactory center in the brain,where the OSNs expressing the same olfactory receptors converge upon the same spherical structures known as glomeruli in the AL.The structure of the antennal lobe,that is,the spatial organization of the glomeruli,governs the insect's odor identification and discrimination.drosophila studies have demonstrated the specific connections between receptors and glomeruli based on the 3d structure of the antennal lobe,deepening our understanding of the relationships between glomerular activities and behaviors,but as yet the structure of the Cx.quinquefasciatus antennal lobe remains unknown.We therefore constructed a 3d model of the Cx.quinquefasciatus antennal lobe using nc82 antibody staining,identifying 62 and 44 glomeruli in the female and male mosquito antennal lobe,respectively,with a significant sexual dimorphism in terms of the antennal lobe volume and glomerulus number.These results demonstrate the structural basis of mosquito odor coding and provide a platform for future studies of the mosquito olfactory signal processing mechanism.

The present paper describes the implementation of GPR 3d survey for detecting and delineating possible remains of hydrocarbon plumes on a gas station. The 3D-imaging was used for the detection of anomalous zones that were analyzed with some relevant signal attributes extracted by digital signal processing. These signal attributes or parameters have been the frequency of the maximum energy concentration on time-frequency distribution and instantaneous amplitude that could be related to the local response of the electromagnetic interaction and the presence of hydrocarbon plumes or soil contaminated areas. The implementation methodology took place at a gas station monitored with a piezometric sensor installation with soil layer information. The 3D-imaging of processed data and its slicing tool permits visualizing expected targets as pipes, tanks and installations in the subsoil exposing the anomalous zones for refined analyses. This further processing has used some spectral attributes of the signal to assess the real presence of the total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) providing a new effort to simplify and overcome the current state of the geophysical methods able to assess the presence of hydrocarbon plumes in industrial environments regarding the time cost of the survey and the traceable indication of the spectral shiftment shown in the plume volume.

A fast hierarchical algorithm based on saliency analysis for 3 d-object recognition is proposed to eliminate the large and complex computation of the present pattern recognition system based on RGB-d image classification method. Firstly, the process of establishing the key point set of the 3 d-object is described. Secondly, a hierarchical recognition algorithm based on the proper four description operators is presented to sketch the process requirements and calculation rules. The time complexity of the four descriptors contained in the proposed hierarchical algorithm is also analyzed to illustrate the rapidity of this algorithm. Finally, experiments are performed to show that the accuracy and rapidity of the algorithm improved greatly, compared with the general recognition algorithm based on PFH descriptor or S-NARF descriptor alone.
