We propose a compact hydrogen sensor, based on Fabry-Perot interferometer with Pd/Ag composite film, fabricated by femtosecond laser mieromachining and thin-film coating technique. The sensing characteristic of sensor with 150-nm Pd/Ag24 composite film is studied, and the device is tested to measure the hydrogen volume ratio range of 0-8%. Experimental results show that the response of the sensor is reversible, and the system shows high potential in hydrogen detection.

The structural, morphological, optical, and nonlinear optical properties of a lead sulfide （PbS） thin film grown by chemical bath deposition （CBD） are investigated by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscope （SEM）, ultraviolet-visible （UV-Vis）, and open aperture Z-scan experiments. The band gap energy of the PbS nanocrystalline film is 1.82 eV~ higher than that of bulk PbS at 300 K. The nonlinear absorption properties of the film are investigated using the open aperture Z-scan technique at 1064 nm and pulse durations of 4 ns and 65 ps. Intensity-dependent switching of the film from nonlinear absorption to saturable absorption is observed. The nonlinear absorption coefficient increases monotonically with increasing pulse duration from 65 ps to 4 ns.

Trimethylamine （TMA）, TIC14, and water are applied as the precursors to deposit Al2O3 and TiO2. With different substrate temperatures, the optical properties and surface morphologies of the two oxides TiO2 and SiO2 are studied, respectively. With substrate temperature of 120 ℃, amorphous TiO2 can be obtained, and the surface roughness （RMS） is only 0.928 nm. Applying Al2O3 and TiO2 deposited in 120 ℃ as low and high refractive index materials, anti-reflection （AR） coating at single point （550 nm） is designed. Furthermore, with the calibrated growth rates, this AR coating is fabricated, and its ultimate reflectance for the AR coating at 550 nm is less than 0.2%, which can meet the requirement for most applications.

The combination of lens and pinhole limits the enhancement of the laser output power in the high-power laser system. Low-pass spatial filter without focusing can surmount the drawbacks of the pinhole filters. The low-pass spatial filters based on multilayer dielectric fihn are analyzed and their filtering performances are validated. The non-focusing low-pass spatial filter is successfully explored to substitute for the focusing one. The design method is based on phase-shifted Rugate thin-fihn spatial filter, narrow bandpass filter and the combined device of long-wave-pass and short-wave-pass cutoff filters, and the angular spectrum bandwidth of bandpass filter are up to submillimeter radians. We mainly discuss three design methods and point out their advantages and disadvantages to find out the best one. The experimental results show that the effects of random and system error during depositing the filter is mainly responsible for the deviation of the designed and measured values.

The single cavity all-dielectric thin film Fabry-Perot filter （s-AFPF） is investigated in this letter as a means of tuning the wavelength in an external cavity diode laser （ECDL）, and the means of limiting longitudinal mode hopping is also investigated. When a TE or TM plane wave irradiates a s-AFPF, a quasi- linear relationship is found in a certain wavelength range between the optical intensity peak-transmittance wavelength of s-AFPF and the cosine value of plane wave incident angle at s-AFPF. Based on this feature we propose and investigate a configuration with a s-AFPF in a tunable ECDL. By theoretical calculation, a mode-hop-free wavelength tuning range of -5 nm around 1 550 nm is achieved. The ECDL can be used in the application of environmental monitoring, atomic and molecular laser spectroscopy research, precise measurements, and so on.

Preparation of broadband antireflective coating by sol-gel method

A sol-gel method for the preparation of silica coating that varied in refractive index is developed. Silicon dioxide sol is obtained by hydrolysis and co-condensation reactions occurred in acid-catalyzed system. Surface morphology, refractive index, and transmission spectrum of the samples are studied. The results of transmission spectra of single-sided coatings show that the average transmittance of the samples increases about 4% compared with the uncoated one in the spectra range from 400 to 1 200 nm in the case of vertical incidence. For the double-sided coating the maximum transmittance is 99% at the wavelength of 840 nm.
