Sulphamic acid （H2NSO3H） was found to be an efficient catalyst for the multicomponent condensation reaction of β-naphthol, aromatic aldehydes and urea or amides to afford the corresponding α-amidoalkyl-β-naphthols in good yields. The remarkable features of this new procedure are high conversions, short reaction time, clean reaction profiles and simple experimental and work-up procedures.

A series of pyrazolone derivatives bearing a tetrasubstituted chiral center were prepared by virtue of a Lewis acid-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts reaction,in which a chiral copper complex was employed as the *** reaction can be carried out smoothly under mild condition to afford the pyrazolone derivatives with high yields(up to 85%)and excellent enantioselectivities(up to 99%).In addition,the gram scale synthesis proved the practicality of this reaction.

Copper（Ⅱ） complexes of sericin, chitosan, 6-and 2-aminodeoxystarch were used as catalysts in oxidative coupling of β-naphthol, the effects of conformation of the polymer ligands in these complexes on activities of the catalysts and mechanisms of the reaction were studied. It was found that if the catalysts react with the substrate by mechanism similar to the enzymic catalysis they must be composed of polymer ligands with highly coiled, especially with densely helicoidal, conformations. While catalysts composed of loosely coiled or helicoidal hgands react with the substrate through molecular collision and have relatively lower activities only. Under nitrogen, catalysts from sericin and chitosam reacting with β-naphthol give optically active β-binaphthol, rotating polarized light to right, but the stereoselectivities are rather low.

Novel spiro[dibenzo[a,i]xanthene-14,3＇-indoline]-2＇,8,13-triones were prepared by the three-component reaction ofβ-naphthol, isatins,and 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphoquinone in the presence of a catalytic amount of H_4SiW_（12）O_（40）.This protocol provides a simple one-step procedure with the advantages of easy work-up,mild reaction conditions and environmentally benign.

An efficient method for the synthesis of 14-alkyl or aryl 14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthene derivatives by the reaction of β-naphthol,and aldehydes in the presence of a catalytic amount of bismuth（Ⅲ） chloride（BiCl_3） under solvent-free conditions at 110℃is *** and aromatic aldehydes were used in the reaction and in all cases the desired products were synthesized *** reaction was studied under different temperatures;the maximum yield was obtained in a short reaction period at 110℃.The method offers the advantages of high yields,short reaction times,simplicity and easy workup compared to the conventional method of syntheses.

A rapid and efficient procedure for the preparation of various aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes was *** method developed produced excellent yields via one-pot condensation of β-naphthol with various aryl-aldehydes in the presence of Keggin vanadium substituted heteropolyacid,H5PW10V2O40,as catalyst under solvent free *** present methodology therefore offered several advantages but not limited to excellent yields(82%-98%),short reaction times(30-50 min),mild reaction conditions,simple work-up,as well as the utilization of cheap and environmentally benign catalyst in the absence of organic solvents.

Poly(4-vinylpyridinium butane sulfonic acid) hydrogen sulfate has been used as an efficient dual acidic catalyst for the one-pot preparation of 1-amidoalkyl-2-naphthols and substituted quinolines under solvent-free *** catalyst was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and thermo-gravimetric analysis. The results revealed several advantages to our new catalyst system,including its reusability,facile work-up procedure, eco-friendly reaction conditions,short reaction time,and high product yields.

A simple and facile synthesis of 14-aryl and alkyl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes and 1,8-dioxooctahydroxanthene derivatives has been successfully developed by treatment of β-naphthol or dimedone with aldehydes under mild conditions in the presence of a pentafluorophenyl ammonium triflate(PFPAT) *** catalytic condensation reactions represent green chemical processes and the PFPAT organocatalyst is air-stable,cost-effective,easy to handle,and easily removed from the reaction mixtures.

Degradation of Dyestuff Pollutant Sudan I Using Advanced Oxidation Process

Due to an increasing environmental pollution, a search for the cost effective treatment and disposal of the dyes from the textile effluents is getting more and more importance. Oxidation and reduction processes play important roles in the degradation treatments of the azo dyes. The latter process is more effective and in consequence its mechanism is also better understood. The mechanism of the oxidation processes, the intermediates involved in these reactions and their role in the effectiveness of the oxidative degradation of the azo dyes, viz, phenyl azo b-naphthol (PAN), Sudan I. On exposure to sunlight at 2 1/2 hours for various samples in different concentrations of PAN mixed with Fenton reagent, when the reactive intermediate?reacted with the colour, the pH vs. absorbance generally showed significant degradation in between pH 5 and 6. The results were compared with the same samples on exposure to uv-light of 254 nm and irradiated at 20 minutes. The degradation occurred in samples of relatively high concentrations, viz, 10-3 and 5 × 10-4 mol· dm-3 at near neutral pH 6 whereas. Low concentration samples such as 10-4 and 5 × 10-5 mol·dm-3 showed degradation towards more acidic range of pH 2 to 4. In advanced oxidation process (AOP), generally reactive, strongly oxidizing ·OH radicals play a main role in destruction of the dye molecules. The proposed mechanisms and the rate coefficients for the reactions of ·OH intermediates with the dye molecules and with model compounds are summarized.
