The dispersion of a pair of prisms is analyzed by means of a ray-tracing method operating at other than tip-to-tip propagation of the prisms, taking into consideration the limited spectral bandwidth. The variations of the group delay dispersion and the third-order dispersion for a pair of prisms are calculated with respect to the incident position and the separation between the prisms. The pair of prisms can provide a wide range of independent and continuous third-order dispersion compensation. The effect of residual third-order dispersion on the pulse contrast ratio and pulse duration is also calculated. The residual third-order dispersion not only worsens the pulse contrast ratio, but also increases the pulse duration to the hundreds of femtosecond range for a tens of femtosecond pulse, even when the residual thirdorder dispersion is small. These phenomena are helpful in compensating for the residual high-order dispersion and in understanding its effect on pulse contrast ratios and pulse durations in ultrashort laser systems.

For solar power tower technology, the improvement of interception efficiency of heliostat field and the extension of central receiver U+02BC s life time are two technical difficulties. To the receiver, higher interception efficiency means more thermal shocks and stronger stresses of high temperatures mainly contribute to the reduction of receiver's life time. To address these problems, a semi-random distribution strategy is proposed to select the best aiming point of the heliostat, and the distribution of onedimensional array arranged on the centerline of the receiver is carried out for further optimization. It is shown by simulation that through our optimization the temperature distribution on the receiver surface becomes much more uniform while maintaining acceptable interception efficiency. © 2017 Chinese Association of Automation.

A deep binary silicon grating as high-extinction-ratio reflective polarizing beam splitter （PBS） at the wavelength of 1550 nm is presented. The design is based on the phenomenon of total internal reflection （TIR） by using the rigorous coupled wave analysis （RCWA）. The extinction ratio of the rectangular PBS grating can reach 2.5~105 with the optimum grating period of 397 nm and groove depth of 1.092 μm. The efficiencies of TM-polarized wave in the 0th order and TE-polarized wave in the -1st order can both reach unity at the Littrow angle. Holographic recording technology and inductively coupled plasma （ICP） etching could be used to fabricate the silicon PBS grating.

We analyze the random disturbance in the transmission of light through a spinning Glan-Thompsontype prism *** disturbance makes the dependence of the transmission on the rotation angle significantly deviates from the Malus cosine-squared law and severely spoils the output light *** vibration of the polarizer as it rotates combing the multi-beam-interference effect raises the disturbance. Further analysis reveals the sensitive dependence of the disturbance on the composing material of the prism gap,and the appropriate selection of such material can make the disturbance minimize to very desirable *** model results show quite good agreement with experiments.

In this study, a new method utilizing surface plasmon resonance （SPR） sensing technology based on the phase and angular interrogations for measuring the refractive index of a liquid prism is presented. An orthogonal sam- ple box that combined the functions of a prism, cell box, and mirror is adopted to simplify the system and provide the convenience to implement the phase and angular interrogations. The angular interrogation is achieved by the motorized rotation stage with the new sample box, and the phase interrogation is achieved by the linear polari- zation interferometry between the s- and p-polarization components. The amplitude reflectivity and the phase angle, which are the functions of the incident angle, are obtained by the reflection intensity and the interference intensity of the lights directly. A sensitivity of 7.5 × 10^-7 refractive index unit （RIU）/0.1° and a dynamic range of 0.5 RIU are obtained experimentally and theoretically.

An all-solid-state quasi-continuous-wave dispersion cavity tunable Ti：sapphire laser pumped by a laser diode pumped frequency-doubled Nd：YAG laser is reported. Using a dense flint glass prism as the dispersion element, a tuning range from 730 to 880 nm with the tinewidth of 3 nm and the pulse width of 17.2 ns was obtained. The maximum output power of this laser system was 5.6 W at 786.3 nm corresponding to an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 25.5% under the pump power of 22 W.

A precise measurement of the applanated diameter of the ocular cornea with the optical probe is very important in applanation tonometry.A novel optical probe with a common path configuration is *** optical probe mainly consists of a cone-shaped prism and a *** former serves as a measuring body touching the ocular cornea to shape the area to be measured,and the latter converts the quantity of the luminous flux returning from the cone-shaped prism into one electronic current *** experiments are carried out on a simulated eyeball,followed by an enucleated porcine eyeball *** results show that there is a significant rise of the normalized variational current with increasing the applanation diameter of the ocular cornea,and the sensitivity is 0.2111/mm with an error of 0.00263/*** of the normalized variational current on the porcine eyeball have good agreement with those on the simulated eyeball.

We design a compact terahertz(THz) polarization beam splitter. Both plane wave expansion method and finite-difference time-domain method are used to calculate and analyze the characteristics of the proposed device. The designed polarization beam splitter can split TE-polarized and TM-polarized THz waves into different propagation directions. The simulation results show that the extinction ratios are larger than 18.36 dB for TE polarization and 13.35 dB for TM polarization in the frequency range from 1.86 THz to 1.91 THz, respectively. The designed polarization beam splitter has the advantages of small size and compact structure with a total size of 4.825 mm×0.400 mm.
