Drones are increasingly used for fauna monitoring and wildlife tracking;however,their application for wildlife tracking is restricted by developing such *** we explore the potential of drones for wildlife tracking using an off-the-shelf system that is easy to use by non-specialists consisting of a multirotor drone,smartphones,and commercial tracking devices via Bluetooth and Ultra-Wide Band(UWB).We present the system configuration,explore the operational parameters that can affect detection capabilities,and test the effectiveness of the system for locating targets by simulating target animals in savanna and forest *** self-contained tracking system was built without hardware or software *** 40 tracking flights carried out in the Brazilian Cerrado,we obtained a detection rate of 90%in savanna and 40%in forest *** for targets in movement(N=20),the detection rates were 90%in the savanna and 30%in the forest *** spatial accuracy obtained by the system was 14.61 m,being significantly more accurate in savanna(x=10.53)than in forest areas(x=13.06).This approach to wildlife tracking facilitates the use of drones by non-specialists at an affordable cost for conservation projects with limited *** reduced size of the tags,the long battery life,and the iower cost compared to GPS-tags open up a range of opportunities for animal tracking.

We use 20 large quasar group(LQG) samples in Park et al.(2015) to investigate the homogeneity of the0.3 ≤z≤1.6 Universe(z denotes the redshift).For comparison,we also employ the 12 LQGs samples at 0.5 ≤z≤2in Komberg et al.(1996) to do the *** calculate the bias factor b and the two-point correlation functionξ_(LQG) for such groups for three different density profiles of the LQG dark matter halos,*** isothermal profile,the Navarro Frenk White(NFW) profile,and the(gravitational) lensing *** consider the ACDM(cold dark matter plus a cosmological constant A) underlying matter power spectrum with Ω_m = 0.28,Ω_∧= 0.72,the Hubble constant H_0 = 100 h·km·s^(-1)·Mpc^(-1) with h = *** the samples into three redshift bins,we find that the LQGs with higher redshift are more biased and correlated than those with lower *** homogeneity scale R_h of the LQG distribution is also deduced from *** is defined as the comoving radius of the sphere inside which the number of LQGs N(< r) is proportional to r^3 within 1%,or equivalently above which the correlation dimension of the sample D_2 is within 1%of D_2 = *** Park et al.'s samples and the NFW dark matter halo profile,the homogeneity scales of the LQG distribution are R_H■247 h^(-1)·Mpc for 0.2 < z ≤ 0.6,R_H■360 h^(-1)·Mpc for 0.6 < z ≤ 1.2,and R_H■480 h^(-1)·Mpc for 1.2 < z ■*** maximum extent of the LQG samples are beyond Rh in each bin,showing that the LQG samples are not homogeneously distributed on such a scale,i.e.a length range of ~500 h^(-1) Mpc and a mass scale of ~10^(14)M⊙.The possibilities of a top-down structure formation process as was predicted by the hot/warm dark matter(WDM)scenarios and the redshift evolution of bias factor b and correlation amplitude ξ_(LQG) of the LQGs as a consequence of the cosmic expansion are both *** results were obtained based on the LQG sample in Komberg et al.(1996)and the possible reasons for such differences were discussed.

This paper is a review of the history,development and efficacy of using dogs in wildlife studies and considers the use of dogs in the research and conservation of wild tigers(Panthera tigris Linnaeus,1758).Using scat detection dogs,scent-matching dogs,law enforcement detection dogs and protection dogs are proven methods that can be effectively used on *** methods all take advantage of the dog’s extremely evolved sense of smell that allows them to detect animals or animal byproducts(often the focus of tiger studies).Dogs can be trained to communicate this information to their handlers.

We have conducted a large-field simultaneous survey of 12 CO,13 CO and C18O J=1-0 emission toward the Orion A giant molecular cloud(GMC)with a sky coverage of4.4 deg2 using the Purple Mountain Observatory(PMO)-13.7 m millimeter-wavelength *** use the probability distribution function of the column density(N-PDF)to investigate the distribution of molecular hydrogen in the Orion A *** H2 column density,derived from the 13CO emission,of the GMC is dominated by a log-normal distribution in the range from4×1021 to1.5×1023 cm-2 with excesses both at the low-density and high-density *** excess of the low-density end is possibly caused by an extended and low-temperature(10 K)component with velocities in the range of 5-8 km *** with the northern sub-regions,the southern sub-regions of the Orion A GMC contain less gas with column density in NH2>1.25×1022 *** dispersions of the N-PDFs of the sub-regions are found to correlate with the evolutionary stages of the clouds across the Orion A *** structure hierarchy of Orion A GMC is explored with the DENDROGRAM algorithm,and it is found that the GMC is composed of two *** structures except one in the tree have virial parameters less than 2,indicating self-gravity is important on the spatial scales from0.3 to4 *** power-laws and departures from lognormal distributions are found at the high-density end of N-PDFs for active star-forming regions,the N-PDFs of structures in the Orion A GMC are predominantly lognormal on scales from R0.4 to 4 pc.

We have investigated the feasibilities and accuracies of the identifications of RR Lyrae stars and quasars from the simulated data of the Multi-channel Photometric Survey Telescope(Mephisto)W *** on the variable sources light curve libraries from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS)Stripe 82 data and the observation history simulation from the Mephisto-W Survey Scheduler,we have simulated the uvgriz multi-band light curves of RR Lyrae stars,quasars and other variable sources for the first year observation of Mephisto W *** have applied the ensemble machine learning algorithm Random Forest Classifier(RFC)to identify RR Lyrae stars and quasars,*** build training and test samples and extract~150 features from the simulated light curves and train two RFCs respectively for the RR Lyrae star and quasar *** find that,our RFCs are able to select the RR Lyrae stars and quasars with remarkably high precision and completeness,with purity=95.4%and completeness=96.9%for the RR Lyrae RFC and purity=91.4%and completeness=90.2%for the quasar *** have also derived relative importances of the extracted features utilized to classify RR Lyrae stars and quasars.
